“Give A dog A Home!”

written by SalGal53 on 27/06/2011

When my husband Mike and I decided we would like to get a dog, my first thought was to go to a dog rescue centre and not get a puppy.

I trawled through several websites especially the one nearest to me (Weathersfield) but didn't see anything that took my eye.

I then came across Rescue Remedies website which was a small centre saving dogs about to be put down and mainly terrier type dogs.

I have had two Staffordshire bull terriers before and know them to be loving and loyal dogs. The website has some good photographs of dogs wanting to be homed and their information. It breaks my heart to think of the way some of those dogs have been maltreated in their young lives.

Once I decided on a couple of dogs I would like to see I filled in an online form. I was duly phoned up and an arrangement for a home visit was made to suit.

That went fine and we were told we had a suitable home for a dog. We then made an arrangement to go see some dogs. It was quite a long way from us as it's over the Dartford Bridge but that was not a problem for us.

We were shown two dogs and allowed to walk them and see what they were like and my eye was taken with a lovely tan/white Staffie who was named Ronnie at the time. He was about 18 months old, the Rescue Centre had neutered him and had saved him from being put down a couple of weeks beforehand by the Council Pound as no one had come to claim him.

We signed on the dotted line and paid a small fee and took possession of our new companion. He has a bit of a quirky character and we renamed him Chesney! He is housetrained and is great with my two young grandsons, who love him!

Rescue Remedies is a registered charity (No: 1139407) and needs all the help it can get to keep doing the wonderful job they are doing. they are holding another online auction sale to help raise funds and you can find it here: http://rescueremedies.myfastforum.org/forum103.php

Please help support Rescue Remedies to keep doing what they do so well. Have a look at the website and maybe bid on an item - all proceeds go to the charity.
Many thanks,
Sal xx
