“WARNING: Really Long Review ”

written by on 13/08/2010

WARNING: Really Long Review

Skin: Dry, Moderate Acne, line under eyes, areas of darkness

Age: 16

How long have I used this product? : A month.

Kit Ordered: Deep

My interest in Mineral makeup was there for several reasons the main two reasons were a) Mineral Makeup is better for your skin and helps improve your skin unlike regular makeup and b) It looks more Natural. Yes I saw the infomercials and it sparked a major interest. This interest grew deeper as friend#1 talked about Sheer Cover and friend#2 said Bare Minerals was the better of the two products.

Desperate to find a mineral makeup product for Prom, Google, Makeup Valley and YouTube became my best friends. However I became confused.....which product is better Sheer cover or Bare minerals? Then a whole list of other mineral makeup lines came up in reviews. These were:

Pur Minerals

Everyday Minerals

Erthn' Glow Minerals

Avon Smooth minerals

Jane Iredale

Urban Decay

and various others.

However I knew I had to save to make this makeup purchase. I could not make such a demand on my parents who knew not the important needs of a teenage girl. By searching for reviews like crazy I had to eliminate. Some were too expensive, some from looking at photographs and reviews provided little or no coverage, Some lines although claiming to cater to black women did not really provide the finish I was looking for. (ashy-ness). After weeks of elimination I was left with four lines, Avon smooth minerals, Bare Minerals, Everyday Minerals and Sheer Cover. I chose Bare Minerals for several reasons. Avon smooth minerals although much cheaper had three foundations in Deep I did not know which to choose, I preferred the Bare minerals starter kit to the smooth minerals starter kit because of its range. For Sheer Cover I found that like friend#2 a lot of reviews said Bare minerals was the better of the two mineral makeup lines and that Sheer cover has the reputation of charging the credit card even after cancellation of orders. Everyday Minerals seemed like a great cheap and reputable company especially for light skin tones and medium skin tones for Asians however though they provided free samples they have very little options for deep skin tones. I chose Bare Minerals although I was troubled by some reviews which made it seem like an acidic powder which smelled like glue. From reading reviews I expected the products to be small, the flawless face brush to shed and probably some irritation from the bismuth oxychloride. My family of course was mad that I was spending so much money on makeup; I had to order my package through a shipping company because I'm from Jamaica which meant it would be more expensive. I must have been crazy to bank so much on a product but I wanted it to work so bad. In waiting for my B.M. package I purposefully ignored the bad reviews and looked at reviews which said it was a great product to remind myself why I made such a risky decision.

After two weeks of waiting I finally got the package. I didn't mind the packaging. I ordered my B.M. package on their online site. Not from Sephora. But before you say I'm crazy... this is why I did it, I really wanted to try the Skin Re-ver Upper(Salicylic acid is great for acne!!) the Sephora Starter Kit though cheaper would come to 82 dollars with the Skin Re-ver Upper which is basically the same price as the one on the Bare Minerals site. However on the B.M site you could get the Flawless def. Mascara, a compact, a precision concealer brush and a free eyelid primer sample. Who wouldn't want to try other B.M products free? And I did like the fact that this kit came with a DVD and other instructional guides.(Rarely found in other mineral makeup brand kits) So you reader, must imagine my dismay the first time I applied this product and I looked like a duppy (ghost).Even though I expected the flawless face brush to shed, the continuous shedding on first use irritated me( the brushes are real good quality otherwise) and the makeup didn't really conceal the dark areas, breakouts and lines. However I was patient and learned to use the product. The key to this product is manipulation. I found that from helpful reviews that if the brush is sprayed with rose water or just water it would provide greater coverage. I can say that I like the B.M products; I even like the smell. It still doesn't cover everything but it is a great product once you have the patience to learn how to really use it and mix foundations instead of returning it (which I couldn't do anyway). That is how you'll get compliments on your skin! It is a wonderful product worth trying especially with the Bare vitamins (the Primer and re-ver upper) and a good moisturiser which help to prevent breaking out with the foundation. A little goes a long way (even though I don't use as little as they did in the DVD) this product will last even the most frequent wearers of makeup a reasonable amount of time. The bismuth oxychloride wasn't really wasn't a problem for me. Most reviews said the irritation occurred most times in the sun when they were sweating. As I said before, I live in Jamaica which basically means sun year round and I haven't had a problem with itching or burning it even works well with my dry skin and evens out my skin tone. However It all depends on you. If your skin is very sensitive then you may have a problem. Still try it! I have tried sleeping in this makeup =) although I don't recommend it. I also don't recommend exercising in any makeup at all! those avid readers on skin care would know why. Google it!=) I wrote this review because I know there are many others like me who have to think ten times before making an online purchase. Read all the reviews and you will learn discern genuine experiences and those reviews geared towards hurting the company. Understand that Reviews are like surveys with different types of people with different hygienic habits. For example a person who complains that the product was wonderful until they started breaking out, it could mean that their skin can no longer take the product or they just don't wash their brushes or they still use the top of the cap to mix the powder instead of a clean bowl. What really sold me on B.M was a YouTube video (called Bare Transformation) which showed a girl with acne and how well the B.M covered those flaws. Reviews are helpful. I have made a recent online purchase again! And it is a wonderful concealer form Avon Smooth minerals which works well with B.M and makes my skin looks flawless. The best you can do for your skin is just to take wonderful care of it.

I have this same review on makeupvally =)
