“Solo pianist Josh Johnston likes to play piano at...”

written by eugena on 14/03/2011

Solo pianist Josh Johnston likes to play piano at night in the dark. It improves his concentration and allows for free, emotional improvisation. This is how he created his latest album, The Shape of Things, which has an ambience a bit different than most solo piano recordings.

Scattered throughout The Shape of Things are five tunes that Johnston has been improvising on late at night with the lights out for the past decade which is obvious from the titles - "Peace (Nightsong 1)," "Nightsong 2," "Nightsong 3," "Nightsong 4" and "A Light in the Dark of Night." Johnston says that last piece was inspired by solo-piano improvisational-jazz-master Keith Jarrett.

The bottom-line is that whatever methodology Irish pianist Johnston utilizes in his creation, it works to give him emotional, melodic, wistful, free-spirited music that will touch your soul. It is as smooth as fine Irish whiskey.

His music can be purchased at various on-line sales sites scattered around the Internet. Do a Google search and you will find it.
