I did my CBT and Direct Access (both modules) with the guys at VBS, as well as 3 full lessons, and a taster session to see if bikes are the thing for me, and wouldn't change a thing. All of the instructors are nice and friendly, not afraid to have a joke or offer you a brew, but most importantly they give sound advice.
When you do make a mistake they will get your side of the story, say what you did wrong and why it was wrong, what you should have done instead and why that would be better, and will most likely help you laugh it off afterwards to stop you getting down about it.
They have a good selection of bikes with an array of seat heights and engine sizes, so they will have something to suit you whatever part of getting your license you are at.
I brought my own equipment, but they do sell bike gear at about the lowest prices I've seen. If you don't have gear I think they will let you use some of theirs, but couldn't say so for definite.
