“Car was ok..the driver/employee tried to take mobile...”

Overall the car hire was ok, the car needed new bearings. The problem was when we return the car. One of our party had left his mobile in the car. We were waiting on the minivan to take us to Lanzarote airport and had only moved a 100 metres from the car. A member of staff checked the car and said everything was ok..he opened the doors to let us check for mobile but it was not there. He also help us take the luggage out to check that it wasn't there. He also said that he had not seen it, we rang the mobile numerous times but it wasnt till we were in the minivan next to the drivers seat that we heard it ringing.We mentioned this to the driver but he acted confused, but we persevered, he then lifted his holdall and low and behold it was below it. None of our party had sat there. The driver was then feeling guilty and drove erractically to airport mumbling to himself and sweating. We wrote to company to inform them and no reply.
