“This is a very smart looking TV - 60 inch plasma, plus...”

written by Longtallted on 09/12/2010

This is a very smart looking TV - 60 inch plasma, plus edge but because there is a single sheet of glass that covers the whole front of the unit, it looks very slick and even larger than 60 inches implies. I mounted it on the wall with all the wires fed behind the wall down to a low cabinet where the Virgin box, AppleTV, etc. live. It's heavy - circa 45 kilograms without the stand - so be sure you have a sturdy wall and a lot of huge bolts to secure the wall mounting bracket (sold separately).

The picture quality is superb, really deep blacks and it handles fast moving images very well, too. We have an LG 37 inch LCD TV in another room and the picture quality on the 60 is clearly better.

It has loads of inputs/outputs, including 4 X HDMI, Optical, analog audio in jack, headphone jack, USB, PC Card. No need to worry about running out of connections!

The only thing that doesn't impress is the sound - a common problem with this sort of TV as due to the shallow form factor there is no room for decent speakers. However, anybody who buys a 60 inch TV and doesn't invest in some sort of separate home cinema speaker setup is missing a trick!

No problems with it at all. I had been concerned about "burn in" as it's a plasma and the kids often leave the programmes they watch on pause for 20 minutes while they go and do something. There is sometimes a temporary after image but it soon goes and is not a worry to me now.

Lastly, I just want to add that the additional cover that I bought from LG when I registered the TV over the phone, was very reasonable. 5 years cover for just £280. The TV cost £1499, bought at Comet on a 0% for 1 year offer, which I've just paid. I think this is incredible value and I'm really pleased with it.

Would recommend to anybody.
