“We have returned from our daughters wedding at the La...”

written by pam and john on 08/07/2009

We have returned from our daughters wedding at the La Torre di Moravola and i found I had to write this review considering the cost of staying at this place [200 euros pppn b&b] and the service we received I felt I should let others know what might befall them.
We did not expect 5* service but some sort of service would have been great.
We arrived between 5& 6pm after a long and very hot journey to find that all the rooms were not ready for us [we were taking all the rooms in the tower] this took at least another hour before we could get into our rooms to freshen up, by the way there is no bar so you have to find the owners if you want a drink, not the best idea.
We decided to have a meal there that evening, as we had waited long enough for our rooms, to find that there is no chef or cook so one member of our party cooked us a meager meal with what little food there was there to find later that we were charged 35euros each for the pleasure. Needless to say we did not eat lunch or dinner there again except for on the wedding day when my daughter had arranged the musicians etc with very little input from the owners.
The first morning there we were looking forward to breakfast only to be treated to 1 croissant, some very old already opened German slimming cereals and stale bread and why did we want more than 1 cup of coffee. No fruit. No yoghurt. No eggs. No cheese. No bacon. In fact an the way down we stayed 1 night in a Campanile near Avalon and paid 83euros pppn and the breakfast was far superior in fact everything was fresh more than can be said for this place.
We were also told that we should all try and sit down to breakfast at the same time [some 20 of us] well you try this with a 4 week old baby in the party and people wanting to swim before breakfast and others wanting to have a lie in, it ' s not going to happen is it, this is supposed to be a holiday not a holiday camp.
We stayed 5 nights and during that time the sheets were never changed and also the towels were never changed they were hung out to dry over our window rail. The beds were only made up for us twice, and the room was only cleaned a couple of times.
On the wedding day after we had left for the marriage service the bride and grooms suite was neither cleaned, tidied or the bed made , the owners are without a doubt running this place on a very tight shoe string but are charging mega bucks for the pleasure.
The plus side of the tower was the view which was fantastic but to find this place was like finding a needle in a haystack. There is no signage not even at the bottom of the road where it goes into an unmarked road if you don ' t have a very good satnav don ' t bother.
We were told that Montone was 10mis away, well that ' s stretching the truth it was about 20 mins using satnav again, so this caused us problems ferrying people who did not have transport. Stress we could all have done without. The day we left we were told we could have had free transport if we ' d asked. Too little and far too late!!!
The pool was beautiful but could have done with a good clean and I don ' t think any water cleansers were being used. It was lovely to sit and enjoy the surroundings, if only everything else had been the same, we would not have needed to leave the tower for anything and we could have truly had a complete break from this mad world we live in. Well that ' s what we had all hoped for but it did not happen.
Needless to say we will not be recommending the Tower to anyone who asks us.
