Good Points
late 1970/80 Solid but small ultra reliable camera, designed & built to proffesional standards fully automatic or manual exposure, the body is protected by highly efficient dust & moisture seals (not waterproof) the exposure meter is fantastic even by todays standards, lenses are abundent & suppased only by leica, power usage minimal unlike the battery eating cameras around today, designed to work with or without batteries (on several speeds)will take data back, motor wind/drive,penta prism can be changed for several different ones as will the focusing screens, death of field preveiw mirror lock up for close up work micro photog and much much more highly deceptive camera looks a very simple camera its not you have to get your hands on one to see what it can do & then you will be hooked you will forever compare other cameras against this Clasic

Bad Points
unfortunatley LX has a couple of weaknesses, it suffers from sticky mirror problem the mirror rest upon two shock absorbers which appear to degrade over time and the mirror sticks to them (hence sticky mirror) and tends to lock up upon the first usage of the camera very annoying however because of the super metering of this camera it will be exposed correctly out of focus-blurred but exposed correctly butiful camera, however more serious is because of the degrading of the shock abbsorbers the mirror tends to sink into the material minutely enough to throw infinity out of focus, it can be fixed dont worry you can diy requiring matt black rubber (washing up type glove) apply over the assorbbers or you can pay a pro to fix it for you for peace of mind about £100 inc service.(2003) also LX should have had a exposure lock built in but it did not unfortunatley , i believe you can get them still brand new in japan/germany as LX Millenium (possibly with exp lock)

The Pentax LX - what a machine

forget the over complicated cameras of today

if you want a smallish camera that delivers first class optics M or A Pentax lenses at unbelievable cheap prices due to fashion trends + all the other manufacturers lenses , first class engineering (metal camera) for reliability,and you want it for a reasonable price anything from £150-250 dont look any where else



at present i use Pentax LX Pentax ME and trying my hand at diital
