“The LG Arena has the potential to be very good, but...”

written by on 08/10/2009

The LG Arena has the potential to be very good, but has several software and hardware issues that blight it.

1. It will crash if you try to edit a text box with a lot of info in it (e.g. an email).

2. The reception is hopeless - it constantly skips between 2G and 3G networks, frequently saying there is no reception even in strng signal areas.

3. Internet connections regularly lock up - requiring a reboot to clear.

4. The GPS is good when it works, but most of the time it thinks I live at lat/long 0/0 - i.e. in the sea off Africa.

5. While you can use the phone in landscape orientation for entering text, the main menus do not rotate so you constantly have to flip your phone round.

6. The power button is used to unlock the phone. It sits on top and sticks out just enough that when it's in your pocket it often unlocks itself and then turns itself off.

7. Battery life is atrocious. With very light usage (internet and calls), you'll be lucky to get 24 hours out of it.

8. There isn't very much room for emails - a mere couple of hundred in total is your limit.

9. Email can only be retrieved using the phone network - not Wi-fi, so be careful if you try collecting your email abroad.

On the plus side the screen is very good. The radio is ok, although doesn't get great reception.

Caveat emptor...
