“Nottingham Volkswagen failed to correctly diagnose...”

written by on 05/02/2009

Good Points
Always washed the car when they had it.

General Comments
Nottingham Volkswagen failed to correctly diagnose electrical fault despite having the car in repeatedly for the same problem. They appeared to just reset the computer, wash the car and return it. The problem would then recur after about 20 miles and the car would have to go back. Eventually charged over £200 to replace a sensor which failed 10 months later and the problem recurred. While the car was in and out of their garage, without them being able to diagnose the fault, the alternator blew and I had to pay over £300 to replace (at the nearest garage to where the car broke down). This included an auto-electrician's assessment, who thought the alternator blowing was due to the undiagnosed electrical fault. After further to-ing and fro-ing to VW they kept the car for 2 days, after which they claimed to have fixed AND tested car. The electrical problem did not recur, but the heating was not working when I got the car back. I took the car back to VW who said that the water pump had gone and needed replacing £311). They claim that both the alternator blowing and the water pump going (while the car was with them remember) was pure coincidence!
