Fare Are Cheap, Because You Get What You Pay For.
Take your sandwich along, you have to pay for everything, outdated airline. Agents are not helpful.
Business To Economy
My daughter and I just flew over to Iceland/Sweden with Icelandair. Going we happen to be lucky enough to fly business due to a special offer found by my travel agent. It was fantastic. Fillet mignon served with varity of nice wines and liqueurs. Great seats and service and then the lounge at Reykjavik airport was amazing. Every sort of drink known to man, both with and without alcohol. Perfect way to get spoiled....or tipsy.
So then we flew back to USA in economy after having flavored the good life. We tried to upgrade to business once in Reykjavik and were told it was not possible due to making our booking via an agent.. and even if it were possible it was about $800 per person. So back to the cheap seats and no service...meaning nothing included unless you were 12 or under. It was the first time ever flying trans-Atlantic and having to pay for food and drinks...just like domestic flights in the states. The food was really bad and I am not trying to compare it to what we had in business. But then it even got worse once in Denver and on to Santa Ana with Frontier. Frontier cannot even manage to a sandwich. Their highlight are potato chips. So which airlines still include the meals with their Trans-Atlantic flights?? Those are the carriers you should choose over Icelandair....unless you can afford business.

Perfect Connections
Travelled 6/24/2014 from Dulles/Washington to Frankfurt via Reykjavik. One hour to change plane was plenty. Space was ok for Economy class.
Excellent Service ✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️
I been trying to put down on paper a review for our experience with Icelandair but where do I begin, we found the service excellent and don't have a thing that we fault so let's start at the beginning.
Booking excellent all paper work email in order and instructions where step by step. Being able to select your seats prior to booking in was great this making sure our party was seated together. Then booking in 36 hours before excellent and having your boarding pass on mobile phone great as not always able to print overseas. This was particular a good point for ourselves as our printer ink had run out but that's another story!
Arriving at airport baggage drop off great no long queuing and had plenty of desks open for check in too so that queue wasn't that long either. We were advised that a slight delay on flight but this was great to be informed about. Boarding the plane was painless and plenty of overhead locker room, check in baggage was included and not everyone was trying to squeeze everything in plane unlike a lot of other airlines. Complimentary soft and hot drinks. You can still buy food, we did on way back and it was really nice a hot ham and cheese baguette. Headphones were offered I don't know if a charge was with these as we had our own. A blanket or pillow was also available if needed . The plane we were on were the 3 seats, aisle, three seats formation, which felt really spacious.
Arriving at Reykjavik airport it was great no queues again and our baggage was practically waiting for us by time we reach the baggage carrousel.
Overall, I was really impressed with the airline. 23kg checked bags is great, seat selection available, complimentary drinks on board, no queues, very polite and professional staff.
If Icelandair can do this why can't other you could show them a trick of two.
Thank you Icelandair and Iceland this was a great way to spend my 40th birthday. I will always remember it and will return again.
All 4 Flights Delayed
We went from London to New York with a stopover in Iceland on return. We arrived an hour late in New York, no explanation and no real apology. The same again arriving in Reykjavik and the same in London. How can all 4 flights be delayed and don't they realise this impacts on connections.
Very few drinks offered, no food whatsoever - not even a bag of peanuts; they are only interested in you purchasing food. Carry on baggage is scrutinised and the baggage checker unit is much narrower than other carriers so beware you could find it going in the hold and then paying - ok if you have no fragile items.
Positive side is there is plenty of leg room but my ears hurt on landing on 2 of the flights, something that has not happened in years. We will probably use them again just to get the free stopover in Iceland, but reading other reviews it appears that this airline seems to have quite a few delays and other issues.
No One Cares About Customer
Luggage conveyor belt at Logan stopped working.
The long delay cost us our connecting flight.
Icelandair staff told us the luggage conveyor belt wasn't their problem but was MassPorts .
A supervisor at MassPort told us it was Icelandairs problem.
So, for about two hours of finger pointing nothing was settled.
Wife and I spent the night trying to sleep at Logan.
Found counter staff to be very abrupt and way too young to deal with issues. Sort of cocky.
They must be trained by CEO to do a poor job with customer relations.
Icelandair website doesn't even provide for email address of upper management to we could vent our issues.
That's not a good sign of customer appreciation.
Make of this as you wish.
We will not fly Icelandair even though our sons family live in Iceland.
Would swim first!
Not That Impressed
Service was not what I expected.
Two delays with very little explanation or information provided. They did not make any announment of delay for our last flight even though a horde of people was crowded around the gate (gate information monitor was blank but the main monitor indicated flight was on time) and no one knew what was going on. A few minutes after the scheduled take off time, they simply opened the gate and let us board with no orgainization what so ever. On our second flight they indicated a 10 minute delay and then proceeded to keep us in the plane on the ground for over an hour with no additional announcement ( or apology).
On two of our four flights our entertainment screen did not work. Not too fun on a 7 hour flight and as this trip was an anniversary gift for my folks, I was pretty disappointed. The stewardess's comments did not indicate they weve very concerned (or sorry) about the poor service and they did not offer any concession (not even a free snack - which they charge for)
I would be Ok with having all food for purchase as not everyone wants to eat but for flights over 6 hours, I found their selection of food that could serve as a mean very limited and not very appealing. Mostly junk food whigh they offer only once during the flight.
For our final flight back to the US, it seemed they went up and down the aisle a few times peddling there duty free junk but went down the aisle so fast handing out custom forms that most people around me did not get one and I almost had to stand on my seat to get there attention to get one as they hurried down the aisle.
I would not fly them again.
No Food Very Little Drinks
For a 6 hour flight ( london to iceland) all the airline can serve is $6 sandwiches and little drinks. The staff is not very helpfull. My husband and I were seating apart. First and last with Icelandair. ty

Heathrow To Reykjavik Check-in/baggage. Just Utter
Heathrow to Reykjavik check-in/baggage. Just utter incompetence almost to the point of sporting a severe learning disability. I don't even know where to start, but let's just say it was the worst check-in experience that I've ever had and I had upgraded to SAGA class. That being said they tried to charge me for extra weight, which should have be waived due to the upgrade. They said that upgrades didn't qualify for lounge service in London, I would have had to purchase the SAGA class ticket in my home country to benefit from the fringe benefits of SAGA. So I said,

Outstanding Value
Outstanding value. Booked Economy Comfort seats for about $150 more than United wanted for regular economy RT Dulles to Heathrow, and $1000 less than United business class. For that we got business class boarding/checkin,free bag check, free entertainment system, free beer/wine/champagne, free meals and snacks, and access to business class lounges at all airports, a great plus. They bump you forward as economy seats oversell, so two of four legs got bumped up to even-better Saga class seats, though the Economy Comfort seats were fine too. No elbows in your ribs like regular economy seats. Generous leg room. Flights all arrived within 15 minutes of schedule, service attentive and mostly happy. none of the surly flight attendants others mentioned. Entertainment system was glitchy outbound, fine on return. Boarding in Iceland was a bit chaotic, uncontrolled. On My scale of overall value they get an A minus. By comparison, Qantas is an A plus, British Airways is an A, no US carrier is higher than a B.
Q&A
Is Icelandair's business class (SAGA class) any good?
