“Overall the Apple iMac is a very nice computer to use...”

written by roadblock7 on 27/01/2004

Good Points
Superb Display 16.7 Million Colours
Excellent Sound Quality in Stereo
Compact Computer cross between destop and laptop
Panther Operating System
Safari Browser and Internet Explorer Browser
Apples Itunes for collecting music on the computer and burning to CD.
DVD Player Built into CD RW Drive Works fairly well.
Computer is very fast compared to PCs.
Optical Mouse is good only uses one button for menus etc.

Bad Points
The keyboard could be much better and could be backlit for when you want to use it in low light conditions.
Lack of USB 2.
Lack of RS232 which would have been useful for connecting some older style peripherals.
Blue Tooth should have been built in at the price as you can use Isync to connect to Sony Ericsson Blue Tooth Mobile Phones.
DVD Player some titles will not start up automatically takes a few minutes to start otherwise picture is excellent (some titles pause inbetween sections unlike a regular hardware DVD Player.)

General Comments
Overall the Apple iMac is a very nice computer to use but could do with a better keyboard which is backlit.

A big improvement from my old Apple Powermac 8600 250mhz which in itself was a good introduction and old machine which i have not got rid of.

Panther seems to be quite good but there may still be bugs to iron out either in it or in Safari the Browser Apple supplies with IMAC.

The looks of the computer is rather unusual looking and is very 21st Century unlike most PCs which are more box like and conventional.
