With so many train companies receiving criticism about their punctuality, or lack of it, Chiltern Railways manages to delivery a top class service whilst being regularly on-time. On their adverts they claim to be on-time 96% of the time and having used their service regularly for over 4 years, I would tend to agree.
Their trains on the mainlines to London and Birmingham are modern and generally remain clean and the addition of 'quiet carriages' whereby the use of mobiles are prohibited can provide welcome relief in rush hour.
The only criticism I have of the service is the price. Each year there seems to be yet another price increase. Often on the route to London it would be cheaper to fill up the car and drive there and back. That being said, buying tickets is easy with the option of using text, online, phone and ticket machines at the station.
Hopefully in future Chiltern Railways will find some other sources of income such as advertising and keep the costs of tickets at a steady level!
