Google Street View is the new Google Maps feature...”

Written on: 27/01/2009 by Tom H (110 reviews written)

Bad Points
Issues of privacy following members of the public appearing in some images.

General Comments
Google Street View is the new Google Maps feature where users can see a street view as if they are actually stood in the street itself. The images are photo-realistic and can is most cases be rotated, giving users an accurate, realistic view of streets.

With just parts of the US currently available, Google are expected to be trying for global coverage as soon as possible.

One major source of controversy is that, as images were filmed live, people can often be seen in images, albeit with their faces censored to remove the chance of identification. Despite the censorship, some are said to have reacted badly to the possibility of being featured on Google Streetview without their consent, an which can be expected to continue and increase as Google Street View coverage also increases.
