Skiathos Town, Emy Hotel

Emy hotel was the worst and dirtiest hotel i 've ever stayed. We went last year in August 22-29 (high season). We asked our agent to find us another hotel but unfortunately Skiathos's hotels were all fully booked and we couldn't leave. Don't choose it just because is cheap. Is better for you to pay more money than going to Emy ...

What a lovely island! My first time ever to a Greek island and was very surprised with how green it was. Beaches clean, water clear and generally everybody was very friendly.

Koukanaries beach is voted 3rd best beach in the world by The Times. Xanemo beach was another favourite at the end of the runway as it is a shingle beach and extremely pretty (there is a bus from Skiathos town at about 10:15 returning about 16:15)but it is easy to walk to.

Car hire is very expensive here but mopeds can reduce the cost. I hired one for ?11 a day for 3 days. This is really a must if you are planning on visiting places that are not on the bus route.

The holiday was dampened by the fact that I had lost my purse on the 2nd day and although I cannot remember where I put it, my two daughters swore that I had left it on the side in the room. That day one of my daughters were a little sunburned and felt quite ill and wanted to stay in the room but the maid told her to get out of bed and physically pushed her out of the door until she had mopped the floor. We reported the purse missing to the rep and had the credit cards cancelled. The rep was quite helpful in the matter. Unfortunately two days and about £10 were spent on phone calls and hassle sorting out cancelling bank cards etc and getting more money wired over from the UK

Two days after the missing purse, our 3 fishing lines were taken off the bed and we presumed the maid had picked them up with the sheets by accident. This was also reported the owner got quite aggressive and denied any knowledge. Another two days went by after asking him if he could talk to the maid to no avail and we saw them on the shelf in the laundry as we walked by the window. The owner was informed and got very nasty with my daughters and said 'the maid took them off the floor as she thought they were rabbit catchers' - we did not understand what he was talking about to be honest but did not want to pursue it any longer as he was starting to scare us a little. Unfortunately this episode put more suspicion on the maid about the purse.

I would never stay at this hotel again but I would definitely go to Skiathos again. The island is wonderful. Next time I will stay at somewhere nearer to the beach although it would probably mean compromising on the picturesqe views that we got at this one.
