Volkswagen Scirocco GTX 1.8

I have owned a 1.8 Scala, GT and GT2 and this is by far the best. Carb models are great but just lack that bit of power. Acceleration, cornering and traction are all good fun but braking is not! What's best about this car is the 36-38 mpg I get out of it as well. Great car in the snow as well :)

Huge boot for a sports coupe but it is definitely a 2+2, child seat only just fits in the back never mind a grown up (but who wants to carry all the weight of passengers?).

Reliability is great. Of all the Roccos I have owned I have never had to change anything other than service parts (touch wood).

this car is typical of vw at that time brilliant engerneering qulity

bad points no space in back and leaking windscreen issues other than that .......

good points runs great were always reliable sports coupe that had good mpg and very comfy due to the tilt seats very quick car too gtx 1.8 u would get an easy 112bhp max speed of 120mph and 0-60 in bot 7.6 sec weighing 720kg all over making it the lightest and fastest coupe of its time very nive car would recomend them too any one ore 1986 gtx were best

Great power delivery,low slung stance what a amazing car even today.Never gave me too many problems apart from the odd c.v joint and front pads.Excellent handling and poise,acceleration and fuel consumption still make this a good modern day equivlent.No need to go any further on mods than a aftermarket exhaust,airfilter,alloys(Not to big)polybushes and rear brake conversion.GTX best of the best,forget the storm you can put the leather interior in yourself.What a car would`nt have it any other way.And by the way if it was`nt already a classic it is now the new scirocco is with us.LONG LIVE THE SCIROCCO GTX......................................

You could buy the carb model if you are planning this to be a project vehicle. Generally the Scirocco is just a car in its own league and class. Truly unmatched in design and quality. Amazing fuel economy on the injection models.

This is my second Volkswagen Scirocco GTX 1.8 and it's the one in the pic) - there first one was a "normal" 1600CL model and not that tidy, but it got me hooked. I bought this 3 years ago and have had to do very little to it, just routine service jobs really. They are a bit heavy on front pads but that could be the way I drive. They are very good on tyres as they are a light car. I fitted a Jetex exhaust system 18 months ago and I am very happy with that too.

I reckon I will be keeping this car as a cherished motor and it will be still on the road as a classic in many years to come.

The VW Scirocco GTX 1.8 goes like a bat out of hell, I chase anything on the road even if I dont stand a chance and I get to surprise a lot of people, my brother had the car from new and drove the guts out of it, I have had it the last 5 years and enjoy driving it every day,I have taken it drag racing at a RWYB event at North Weald dragstrip twice and gave standard sierra cosworths a run for there money !!

Have owned my Scirocco for 6+ years now. At 18 it is needing a bit of welding but still is such a wonderful car to drive. From a girl racer to all boy racers this is one heck of a car and will leave lots standing due to the wonderful acceleration. Boys toys ha! Girls just wanna have fun too!
