D-Link G650+ PCMCIA Wireless Buscard

All in all, I like it a heck of a lot, as I am able to search the net from my bedroom (where I have no cable), and from outside at the picnic table. Wonderful Product!

JUST MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SET-UP MANUAL!!!

There is a problems with D-Link G650+ Wireless network cards and HP NX series and Compaq latops.

The cards wont work.

I have recently bought a G650+ card in the UK to get wireless DSL access. The card installed and worked only till the first reboot.

Then it gives an XP error code 10, cannot start device in device manager.

I tried both sets of drivers issued by D link. Then i rang their support line in the uk

0845 0800288 option1..

After a long wait on hold. I spoke to a user who reportted. "it is a known" fault.

The fualt is the hardware in the laptop and is the issue of HP and Compaq. They are apparently working on it but till a firmware or fix is released there is nothing that can be done.

I have checked the D-Link website having spent two days looking for information and finding none on this issue.

The HP NX9005 laptop i have is great, the card when it works is great, but it doesnt work all of the time.

So if you have a Compaq or HP laptop, be carefull if you plan on going wireless with a D-link wireless card.

On a worse point, my computer supplyer also gave me access to a belkin wireless card to check the ports and this didnt work either. So it may not just be the D-link G650+ card that is effected.

The support guy at D-link seemed very interested in how i managed to get my card working the second time.

It was a lot of faffing about and it failed again so, i wish i knew a work around to post here but i dont.

So please heed this warning. The card if brilliant when it works, but it doesnt at the moment and there is no information offered as to when the issue will be resolved by D-Link. !
