Allright, This Is A Classic. It Shouldn't Be Compa
Allright, this is a classic. It shouldn't be compared with the German panzers or Swedish trucks listed somewhere here. This one has a style. Citroen used to move people with a style in those years. But they were defeated to harsh economic realities of the market and today the market is left to powerful panzers and trucks only. This thing, along with the DS, GS and SM of the very same company is a flying carpet an "engineering wonderland". Actually floating on nitrogene filled suspension spheres ,caresing it's passengers in very comfortable seats in an extremely futuristic design inside. It is impossible not to feel something special while you are riding in one of these. The rotary speedometer and tachometer, self centering ( at stop or in the move ) power steering, variable power assistance to steering, well known adjustable ride height to name very few.
The 2400cc engine is a dinosaur in 2003 but it is very trusty and troublefree. I wish Citroen could survive to build new versions but the XM did not fill the CX's shoes. I wish that the C6 would.
A very well maintained CX will be the most remarkable executive car among all those German all Swedish bricks that are designed in some PC automobile design software. It is a timeless classic and shows it's owners admire and passion to design beauty aesthetics in general.
Could be bought at a price of a pair of good leather shoes today and spending some 20 times of that amount will make you own a remarkable one.
A rare beauty!
MMM. I love them too, but I am certainly not as one-eyed as our the author. Rust, interior trim, poor driving ergonomics, quirky switch gear, front seats which imbue the feeling of sitting atop a sponge-mass, pedal position for which one\'s feet need to be arranged pidgeon-toe style, doors which fail to remain open, and fail to open far enough (yes, they certainly thump you if you fail to hold away when alighting from the car), water which finds it\'s way from the windshield into your face when raining, and door window is even slightly open. Add to this an electrical system which is poorly made and protected and from the elements- untidy is an understatement, headlights which promise so much, deliver so little. The list goes on.
Yes, I love them. Have had four DS\'s, including safari DS21, three CX\'s (a 24 carb, a 25 IE and a Reflex estate diesel). CX is the better car. Handling, gearing, comfort, (not visibility). The CX is the last of the genuine (real) Citroens. Beautiful car, well worth the effort. Still out handle, out-brake, out-comfort most moderns, including the nicer German cars, for which I have a high opinion.
I owned three consecutive Gti Turbo's, and have recently purchased a '79 Pallas 2400 C-Matic as a restoration project, because I simply cannot live without one :-). There is simply nothing like it.
spot on !!!!
Had one, loved it, couldn't afford to keep it, want another!
Completely agree with the reviewer, he both loves and knows Citreons...
