How It Should Be Done!
I bought this car second hand 12 years ago from a farmer. And did he use it!!! I had to strip most of the inside and fix it up. The engine and chasis was next - but then came kids/family/life... so i never did.
But i've not taken for maintanence either. It sits in my garden (not garage), and i've only filled up the oils/water/air. Every year i say If it fails the MOT i'll scrap it...
And its still going. 300K on the clock.
A few minor fixes over the years: one wheels brakes. worn out cables in driver-door. AC unit. new tyres.
Everyday i drive this beast for 2 hours: tapes (yes!tapes) blaring, windows down. Loving it.
Comfortable. Reliable. Easy & cheap to fix. Controls in the right place. Correct options on wipers, heating, music, etc.
Fantastic car.
Oh i do like that its not huge. Its actually smaller than most SUVs or 4x4s i see on the market today. It has a lower roof, its thinner, and fits easily into supermarket underground parking.
And its so comfortable - its like travelling in an armchair.

Our 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport Has Now Done 350,000
Our 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport has now done 350,000 km. In that time our only major expenses have been to replace the stainless steel exhaust manifold, the steering box and front brake rotors. Apart from those items it has just been normal servicing, replacement of brake pads or shoes, etc. We have maintained a 10,000 km service interval throughout. Generally we do 3 x 10,000 km services ourselves and at each 40,000 intervals give it to an expert to check over. The transmission has been serviced each 100,000 km and still appears to be going strong. The engine is going to be replaced because while on holidays it had a thermostat jam and it got very hot before we pulled up. That was at about 300,000 km and the engine has deteriorated since. Once the new motor is in we think it will be good for another ten years, no trouble.

I own a 2001 Cherokee 60th anniversary and I absolutely love it! It is comfortable, fun, and quite capable off road. It has good power, but the only thing I could think of to ask for is more back seat room. The Jeep Cherokee is in many ways far superior to the Liberty which replaces it, so snatch one up!

There is nothing else out there like a Jeep, no SUV can match what a Jeep 1999 Cherokee Sport 4x4 can do off road, the soild front end and great suspension to take the hardest of hits, why would any offroad enthusiast want anything else other then a Jeep?

I Am Negotiating On A 1998 Cherokee Sport With 61
I am negotiating on a 1998 Cherokee Sport with 61K, ABS, AM/FM/CD, alloy wheels, temp & mpg ceiling console calculator and is very clean. I have owned a 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ for two years and this is like riding a Jeep Cadillac! I will win the price war at the dealer and keep this vehicle until it (or I) dies!
What it lacks in modern design it makes up for as the last true offroad SUV - get one before they're all gone!

The Cherokee sport is a well rounded vehicle. It can change terrains with ease from asphalt, ice, snow, and off-roading. It has good sized interior with ample rear cargo room. I have a bike-ski rack on top which I can also lash the extra belongings.

This Jeep 1999 Cherokee Sport Is Truely The Ideal
This Jeep 1999 Cherokee Sport is truely the ideal vehicle for me. Its powerful, but lightweight so it has good fuel economy. Its got lots of room, but its not big and bulky like so many other vehicles in its class. It looks good whether its polished or covered in mud. Handles well in the city and it is actually very capable off-road....trust me I tried it out more than once. Just disconnected the swaybars and I was in business. The Liberty may ride smoother with independant front suspension, but it gets left far far behind on the trail.
A couple weeks ago I strapped a canoe to the roof, and two bikes to the back and my girlfriend and I piled our stuff inside, while the weekend after that I fit four passengers and their luggage when I picked them up at the airport. It handled the trails one week and the tight quarters at the airport the next.
The handling of the Cherokee is just fantastic. Of course its not going to handle or ride like a Mercedes Benz, but a Benz can't tackle snow banks or mud so easily can it?
The versatility, reliability, and economy of this vehicle won me over. Too bad they discontinued it. If the Liberty is indicative of the direction that Daimler-Chrysler is taking the marque, then I may never buy a newer Jeep. I'm not at all impressed with the construction of the Liberty. Round headlights and a seven-slot grille don't make it a Jeep.
I also love my 1999 Jeep Cherokee. Mine is Desert Tan Pearl with 5 Spoke colormatch Rims on Bridgestone tires, and after market shocks. It is like a chameleon changing to meet the occasion.
