What Can I Say That Hasn't Been Said Already About

What can I say that hasn't been said already about the Philips DVD-R1000 DVD recorder? Mine lasted over a year (lucky?), with relatively moderate use. It kept failing to record, and then it would shut down totally, with just an error code showing on the screen, and therefore trapping the DVD+RW disk inside.

It is not only phillips, I have a liteon that has been a nightmare after 9 months with similar faults .

I have to beg the question as to the generic software ?

I really dont think the DVD operating system is fit for purpose as I have heard of many people with similar problems

From The Outset There Were Intermittent Problems W

From the outset there were intermittent problems with video + programming. The Philips DVD R1000 DVD Recorder worked one day and not the next. Then it would not awake from standby mode. None of the keys worked. Unplugging and reconnecting did not engage diagnostics as specified in the manual. When diagnostics finished (and passed) the unit hung and would not accept keyed commands. Various error messages displayed, keys unresponsive, restarted in virgin mode, but all the above problems reoccurred. Philips service quote £50 + vat for collection, delivery and service report (extra for repair)

My Philips Dvd R1000 Dvd Recorder Developed Interm

My Philips DVD R1000 DVD Recorder developed intermittent faults, error messages - lock up - not recognising blank disks, approx 12 months after purchase. Completely failed 2 months latter - would not read any DVD's. Have just been advised by an authorised Phillips repair centre that it is un-repairable (not worth spending the money needed).

The bottom line is that I was advised by a Phillips repair agent that it was not repairable, 14 months after purchase. It would not read ANY, including DVD movie disks, at all, let alone record to to a blank disks, and I did try different brands of blank disks. They did not replace the recorder but suggested I purchase another Phillips DVD recorder!

The first generation Philips DVD recorders all had problems, especially the DVD1000.

This model was taken off the market & replaced with the DVD1000 mark 2 which I have & is well over a year old & I've had no problems with it.

It's important to know which blank DVDs to use with recorders, the worst by far are the Philips, the best easy being Verbatim.

This Dvd Recorder Was Very Good For The First 2 Mo

This DVD recorder was very good for the first 2 months, but soon developed multiple problems, including disc warnings, disc errors, and not being able to read discs with movies, ie.

"NO DISC" and "EMPTY DISC" messages.

It managed to corrupt a number of my discs.

Overall, just not robust or reliable enough.

I Bought One Of These Philips Dvd-r1000 Players/re

I bought one of these Philips DVD-R1000 players/recorders and have had it for a while now. Everytime i use it, i get more and more convinced that this is the way DVD should be!

When inserting a DVD+RW media, you get a menu, with chapters and "thumbnails" of your recordings. Let's say that you've recorded Startrek, and after that you've recorded 2 episodes of Friends, then you get a DVD menu containing these 3 items. And best of all, when taking this DVD+RW media with you to your parents old DVD player, the disc works there too! THAT is pretty amazing compatibility. And you can select 4 modes of Quality. The lowest quality mode still has better picture quality than a VHS recorder at Single Play. At that rate you can record 4 Hours per DVD+RW disc. And the disk is rewritable over 1000 times, if you decide to record something else over the earlier recordings! A firewire connection also makes it possible to connect my miniDV videocamera and just transfer the movie to DVD! I almost laugh at the thought, how easy and convenient it is.

I can sit here and write stuff all night, details and smart menu systems, and how easy everything is. All i can say is that if you can afford this unit and are interested in Video recording on DVD, i think you'll really LOVE this product!
