Its A Radio
our 1st ever DAB radio. after listening to several radios in the shop i preferred this one because it was the less boxy
sounding. i thought maybee when i got it home it would sound better ... but it was disappointing. the mid and top end
is very nice and clear .. but theres just no bass at all. why dont manufactures build these radios with full range speakers?
the tuner is also slow on the FM band ... but to be fair the selectivity is quite good. the sensitivity is average and i couldn't
make the sensitivity control do a lot .. even though it says it goes from 1 - 10 in the menu. DAB is about the same as others
ive heard .. although this will be the 1st DAB portable radio weve owned. 10 presets on each band is better than most .. and
i found no problems using them.i took the radio into the garden and did a scan. the radio found 77 services. it was too cold
to hang around so i came in. the reception indoors is fair to good ..
the radio on the whole is rather nice. the cabinet is smooth with no sharp edges. another popular make
i tried in the shop had rather rough edges and the speaker grill felt like a cheese grater!. i thought the Sandstrom
felt nice and solid. i quite like the layout .. even though it has a "radio gone by" look .. it looks like a radio .. and not like
something thats melted in the sun .. a bar of soap .. or was designed by children ..
or someone who has no idea what a radio should look like .. as a lot do .. and the buttons do what they say ..
not many hidden menus.
the best for last .. and its the dial. its nice and clear and when on mains it stays on. when u switch to battery it stays on
for quite a while then goes dim .. doesnt go completely out .. but dim enough to see. on a full charge i had it running
all day for just over seven hours. not bad for 2600mah c cells. good enough for in the garden. another thing is the
dial stays on when plugged into the mains .. but theres no lamp switch. another waste of energy .. and burning out that lamp.
in a bedroom at night it could be quite annoying! other than that the dial is easy to see .. compared to some of our older radios.
i have some laptop speakers with a sub and fed the radio through that via the headphone socket. i have to say the bass
still tends to be light ... but theres an improvement. i guess i will keep searching for a radio with some decent bass .. even
if the battery only last a few hours. what do they say ... quality not quantity !
