“I accept that issues can go wrong with kitchens and...”

written by STUBEN on 21/11/2007

I accept that issues can go wrong with kitchens and loss of parts, delivery, ordering etc. The problem with Kutchenhaus is when things do go wrong, as you then have to wait 4 - 6 weeks (longer in the summer, as the German industry closes down) for any replacement parts. This isn't good if you are paying for fitters and keep having to get them back every 4 weeks to find out the next delivery is damaged or the wrong size.

The next problem is having to chase up replacements - have they been ordered, when they have arrived in the UK, what parts have arrived, when they can deliver, then sending them back, and so on; this cycle lasted for about 6 months.

If you think it's worth all this rather than using another company (our kitchen is not that much better than an MFI or similar kitchen, and it was a lot more expensive), then go for it, but don't be seduced by the "its like buying an AUDI" line - my AUDI came with undamaged doors that fit, and parts that can be replaced immediately.

The service I received from Kutchenhaus was very good. No high pressure sales, no rubbish clear pricing and an honest sales person. The aftercare was also impeccable, everyone at the store was most helpful, and the delivery men were excellent helping to check off the delivery and putting everything exactly where I wanted it.

written by pat19 on 21/10/2007

After looking round at lots of places for a new kitchen, I was working nearby and saw the Kutchenhaus showroom, so I had a wander in, and the showroom looks really impressive, so I picked up a brochure up and booked a design. At the weekend I popped back and had a design done, which was very impressive again; 3D CAD software is very good as well. I carried on looking round, but there wasn't anything as good for the same price, so the following weekend I went back and put the deposit down, and true to their word, 8 weeks later a kitchen arrived. Working in the trade I fitted it myself, and I had it done in one day, apart from the panel that I cut wrong because I was watching the football on the TV, and not concentrating properly.

The only negative point is the time you have to wait if anything's damaged, but that's the beauty of the products, as they are made to order.

Well worth a visit!!

Kutchenhaus is a seemingly friendly company. My wife & I chose a kitchen which was subject to a 40% discount. After the designer (salesperson) came up with the final price, I negotiated a further £3,400 discount. My wife liked the kitchen so much I overlooked the dodgy sales methods. I paid 10% deposit in order that the proper designer would visit our home to professionally measure the kitchen (they won't do this until you pay the 10% deposit). So far, so good. The guy who visited our home complemented me on the accuracy of my measuring and said most of the mistakes were down to the showroom designers (salespeople). After a week, we were invited to the showroom to "sign off" the final plans which had been slightly amended due to the designer (salesperson) making a mistake! They really invite you to the showroom so you can pay the outstanding 90% of the balance 8 weeks before delivery. The showroom designer made the changes and guess what? You've probably guessed it, THE PRICE SHOOTS UP !! I won't bore you with the details and the fact that when scorned, I can be the most awkward of people, I got my money back (reluctantly). I have my own business and when I do a deal, it's a deal. If I were to make a mistake, that's my fault not my customers fault. Kutchenhaus kitchens are without doubt good quality but there are other good quality kitchens on the market. Don't be duped by the slick showroom and their insistence that nobody can match their German quality, they can. They are planning to open further showrooms in the UK, the next one is Chester.

If you thought the product was so good and the initial service was so good why give it a zero!?

Overall I would have to say that the experience of purchasing a kitchen from Kutchenhaus was very good. We bought the kitchen as 'supply only'. Everything was delivered as it should have been, the units were fairly straight forward to install apart from maybe trying to understand the German instructions and we are pleased with the outcome. The quality is extremely good and it looks like a kitchen that will stand the test of time! Bought in June and just completed as we had various other jobs to do. I would recommend them to my friends.

written by phileastty on 11/10/2007

We purchased our kitchen from Kutchenhaus and paid up front in June 2007, and the kitchen appeared in August. I was installing this myself, as the units are rigid and they are quite easy to install. It was at this point that I realised the kitchen was 30cm too big. I went into the store and spoke to the General Manager, who told me it would cost us more money to put it right, so I walked out and awaited a callback the next day. My wife then went into the store and the kitchen was redesigned, and she was told that the new units were on order. At the end of September the units still had not appeared, so we spoke again to the store and were then told the units hadn't been ordered and we would be charged an extra £995 to put their mistake right.

Whilst the sales pitch was tempting, we received no after sales care when we were faced with problems. The staff seem unable to empathise with the fact that we have parted with a large sum of money and need their support. I have lost count of the amount of times I have waited for a call back and not received one. I have almost given up hope that we will come to end of all these problems.

Just to note - if parts are missing or damaged, which is accepted that this can happen with any kitchen - we had to wait 4 - 6 weeks (even more on some occasions), so if you are using your own fitter, you will keep having to pay for them to come back a few times. Don't expect calls to advise you when parts will be delivered, you will have to chase these up yourself - and hope they have reordered the correct pieces! This is only one of the annoyances, as it has to be said that my main issue with Kutchenhaus is the lack of Customer Service and the frustration of dealing with unhelpful staff.

We went into Kutchenhaus expecting the worst having read other reviews but we were really pleased with what we found.

All the staff were polite and not pushy. They gave us some great advice, and made the process of ordering the kitchen really painfree.

The kitchen was delivered to us the first week of December. We were missing two handles, but it did not seem a problem, I just phoned the store up they arrived just before christmas.

My husband and my brother fitted the kitchen and it was great that I did not have to find all the screws and parts like I done for my last kitchen. Yes it was a flat pack kitchen.

written by sarah hughes on 16/01/2007

It is nearly a year since Kutchenhaus started fitting our little kitchen, and they have not finished it yet. Mistake after mistake, and no after-sales care whatsoever. They never return calls, and they always seem to get it wrong.

We visited the store in October 2005, and they lost our drawings but did not tell me. So in December we sent some more. We heard nothing from them, so we visited in January 2006, and they arranged a consultation. A surveyor visited, but again we heard nothing and had to ring them to find out it was already booked in for fitting 0n 17th April 2006. The kitchen did not fit properly, including an inch gap behind the slanted worktop and sloping cupboards. Also, parts were missing. After lots of unreturned phone calls, days off work for deliveries that didn't turn up and fitters that didn't have parts, we are still without a finished kitchen 8 months later.

We bought a kitchen for 12k in October 2006, and it arrived before Christmas. We fitted the product ourselves, and it was very simple to fit. On the original order 4 handles were missing. One quick phone call to Kutchenhaus and it was sorted. We received the missing handles this week. An excellent service!

The product is far superior to anything that you can get at MFI, B&Q or Magnet.

I got quotes from Magnet and MFI, and although the designs were nice, the design I had done at Kutchenhaus was more edgy and had more of a wow factor. I arranged my own fitter, and he was well impressed with the product. It saved him so much time, as all the units are pre-built.

I would recommend Kutchenhaus for the great product, fab designs and ease of fitting.

written by Tom Crute on 05/01/2007

We visited the Kutchenhaus store back in July, having driven past a couple of times during visits to the Trafford Centre. We had been almost everywhere looking for kitchens, and although we had seen several styles that we liked, in most stores we were ignored and just left to our own devices. At Kutchenhaus it was different.

We were greeted on entering the store, and were engaged by the staff in a polite and friendly manner. They were happy to let us browse, but they were always on hand to offer advice about the product and services. They were very well informed and made us feel confident about their product. We decided to book an appointment, and we went back the following Saturday to have a design done.

Once again, on entering the store we were greeted, and they actually remembered who we were! The design process went well, and we were very happy with the outcome. The price was over our budget with the fitting, but we had not seen anything that really made the grade elsewhere, so we decided to purchase. The survey was a little late, which annoyed us, as we had to wait in all day for the surveyor. When he did arrive the survey was quite thorough, and he explained everything that would happen during the fitting. Eight weeks later the kitchen was fitted. The fitters were well mannered, and they went about their work quite quickly. I was surprised how fast the job was completed.

There were a couple of minor problems with the fit, as two of the doors had scratches on them. These were replaced without question, although we did have to wait three weeks for them to arrive. But they were fitted that week, and I am highly delighted with the result.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Kutchenhaus to anyone.

written by johnbamf on 05/01/2007

I bought my kitchen from them after doing the rounds of B&Q, MFI and Magnet etc. The price I was given from all these places were about the same, and the price from Kutchenhaus was about the same (they were all between £5000 and £5400). However, the quality of the Kutchenhaus kitchen is far better. This is the third kitchen I've bought in 5 years (I'm a bit of a serial house mover), and the first time I bought from B&Q and the second was from Magnet. My brother helped me install the kitchens all three times, and we were amazed about how much better the Kutchenhaus kitchen is. All the units are already built, so you just take them out of the box and put the handles on. All the kitchens I looked at at B&Q etc looked good, but only when you compare them with Kutchenhaus do you realise how bad quality they are.

I am surprised at other peoples comments about poor service - when I bought, it was quite quiet in the showroom (in late November), so maybe I got better attention - or maybe they've got their act into gear recently. Anyway, I'd thoroughly recommend them!

written by earl07 on 04/01/2007

We ordered our kitchen in mid July 2006. The kitchen was delivered and fitted by the first week in September. The fitters were very polite and hard working, and we had a working kitchen again in only 3 days. Then a man called round to quality check the standard of fitting. One of the wall units was damaged when it was unpacked. The Kutchenhaus fitting team had it reordered, and they said it could take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive. 3 weeks later it was delivered, fitted and some minor door adjustments were done to rest of the kitchen. Fantastic aftercare by any standard!

We spent £8700 on our kitchen, and considering it's a German kitchen and the comparative cost of flat packs and other German kitchens, we are delighted, and we reckon we have bagged an absolute bargain!

Thanks Kutchenhaus.

Kutchenhaus offer a great product, but dreadful service and installation. After paying up front, installation was very poor - some products delivered were damaged with significant delays in replacements being sourced. After-sales service is extremely poor - calls regularly not returned. Late for installation appointments and proved very difficult to get everything closed off.

First they lost the drawings, and then we had to chase them for a delivery date. The kitchen was fitted in April and there were parts missing or the wrong ones, or they were ill fitting. We had sloping cupboards, a gap behind the worktop, missing end panels and flyover shelf. We had to keep ringing Kutchenhaus to find out when they would come back, and also to get them to contact the finance company to tell them to push back the payments until it was finished. I'm so glad I didn't pay in full. We are still waiting for them to come back to finish, and we have not heard anything from them since July and are sick of ringing them!! I can't tile, decorate or lay the floor until they do!

Kitchen ordered in March from Kutchenhaus, Trafford. Paid in full in April. Fitting started on 13th July, but is not yet completed (at 17th October), despite various promises time after time. There seems to be no communication between staff, supervisors and fitters, and getting to a responsible Manager is impossible. Appointments were not kept, and promised phone calls were not returned.

The design issue was discussed during the post installation inspection and Kutchenhaus are delivering new doors and handles to overcome this.

I visited several kitchen showrooms before ordering from Kutchenhaus and believe the design and build of Kutchenhaus units is far superior to other manufacturers when comparing price.

I advise anybody who orders from Kutchenhaus to hold back twenty percent of the money. If it is found necessary to employ an independent electrician or plumber, deduct his charges before the final payment to K'haus. It is no use relying on agreed fitting dates.

We placed the order to Kutchenhaus in January, were told it would be delivered last week of Feb & we would get a call the week before to advise of delivery day. This all happened. The delivery driver called on the Friday to say when & approx. what time they would be there. They arrived as advised, were very careful with delivery, which was all very well packed. All parts were included. My dad fitted the kitchen, he has fitted many kitchens before and found this the easiest and best quality kitchen yet. He found all the fixing were very well thought out & made fitting easy. All units came as standard with soft close & extended drawers. We love it. The quality is far superior to the DIY stores and furniture chains we all know, though you won't pay much more for it.
