“Totally useless ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bruceifer on 26/08/2023

I've had a 17 inch can in my van for a few months. Yesterday a family in a car pulled up by Loch Ness (where I was parked) with a puncture. They were from abroad and in a SIXT hire car with no blummin spare! I said they are more than welcome to my can. It should work, as it's 17 and the car had 15s. The can did absolutely nothing. Do not purchase such junk.

“Absolutely RUBBISH!!! NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by NotaHappyFella on 23/04/2023

Rushed to get a can of this crud and paid $25 for the privilege of it not opening properly and emptying most of the contents on my hands as I tried to hold the switch in the on position. After reading several reviews I agree with anyone else who says that it is useless. I will walk 50 kilometres before buying this crud and will be telling everyone on social media to avoid it. Maybe another can will be purchased just to make a YouTube video on why to never buy this product.

“Shredded my tyre in 3 miles”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 336Cannon on 03/12/2022

Had a puncture 3 miles from home yesterday evening. I bought Holts tyreweld and followed the instructions on the can. It let me down big time. Before I got home the tyre was shredded and off the rim. I won't be using this stuff again. I will call out my roadside assistance company. My vehicle does not come with a spare. Many years ago I bought another Holts product called piston seal which destroyed my engine. I'll be wary of Holts products in future.

“Catastrophic destruction of your TPMS”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ReviewGeeza on 18/07/2022

Use this, prepare for £££ costs to replace the TPMS sensors on any wheel you use this on AND a new tire afterwards. This is a nightmare product whcih should be banned! TPMS sensors operate by measuring the Tyre pressure. If you clog the small hole to the TPMS it will be useless. The job of this goop is to plug holes. A OE TPMS for a BMW or Merc is around £100 + fitting. Next, this goop is a form of glue. It can wreck the alloy from the inside. You cannot remove this without tremendous effort and damage. The beed will never seal properly until it is fully removed and no average garage will want to bother so you will be driving around at risk of death as they dont care. Also, you cannot repair a tire that has been exposed to the goop. No repair glue / kit will stick to the residue it leaves. Means a new tire is needed. Better to use the orange (or black) strips you insert from the outside with a tool into the hole if you can, it is a bit more effort but much better and can be later repaired properly at the garage. Use this only in the most extreme emergency, i..e your stranded and are prepared for a new wheel sensor and tire cost and the extra labour to clean up the nightmare mess.

“Worth every penny.”

★★★★★

written by 384Love on 24/02/2019

I bought a new Lexmoto Milano 125 scooter. In the first week I gotta puncture. Having pushed my scooter home, around a mile and a half. I put the repair kit and injected the foam into my tyre. After spinning the wheel a couple of times I pumped the tyre to specified pressure. I then took my scooter out running it for about a mile or so then returned home. Leaving my scooter for a few hours, I went out and checked my tyre. That was two and a half years ago. Haven't had to pump up again since. Having read some other reviews where it did not work. Sorry, you just didn't do it Right.

“Saved my motorbike holiday to Scotland”

★★★★★

written by PeterWhalley on 22/05/2013

On my way to Scotland when discovered a rear flat. Followed the instructions and the puncture was fixed. As it is only meant as a temporary measure I was nervous at continuing all the way to Scotland. Because it was Saturday and I might not be able to get the tyre changed until Monday I decided to continue with my holiday and just kept going for the whole trip (1,646 miles). The tyre did flick the solution over my bike and make a bit of a mess, however this was easy to clean off when I got home. This product will not work if the puncture is too big and I would advise to read the instructions well. I have always carried this product or similar and will continue to do so as its impractical to carry a spare wheel on a bike. Well worth the money.

“6 months on”

★★★★☆

written by slewis162 on 17/02/2013

Got a puncture in my wee van (combo) so, got the tyre weld out. Inflated the tyre, topped up air at next garage and procedded to run around for the next 6 months with the tyre weld doing fine. Only changed the tyre when it was at its limit. Next time I got a puncture, same process with the can but it didn't work at all.

“Excellent product”

★★★★☆

written by warren1984 on 04/02/2013

I had a slow puncture on my rear tyre on a Sunday afternoon after going over a large pothole on the A4. I couldn't get in to a garage anywhere and this product was a great stop-gap; the tyre inflated and I was able to drive over 100 miles without issue afterwards until I had time to schedule a permanent repair. It was simple to use and the excess foam simply came out of the air valve. Please be aware this is a temporary solution and you'll need a permanent, professional repair - this is just to tide you over until you're able to get to a garage and it beats the cost that the RAC was going to charge to come out (£141 as a non-member, plus £31.99 membership!) I now keep one of these in my vehicle at all times as I was so impressed with it :)

“Works just fine”

★★★★★

written by dexcz on 15/10/2012

I've used this product a few times now. It works just fine and I got the tyre permanently repaired afterwards every time. You just have to read the instructions, NOT jack the car up and drive for a few miles ASAP. The friction of the tyre and the road warms the stuff up and gives you more pressure aswell. Some repairers (e.g. Kwik Fit) tell people that this product ruins tyres and that they have to buy a new one. According to Holts, this is not true and Tyreweld is just water based "liquid rubber" so can't damage anything. It's just a lot easier and more profitable for them to sell you a new tyre rather than having to remove the white stuff and repair the old one.

Fab product , I had a flat back tyre I bought this item from a service station followed the instructions and was away within 15 mins I did top up with a little more air but continued with my 300 mile journey with no trouble. I will be getting another one to keep in my car as is much less time and truble than changing the wheel, which as a young female with a small child and dogs in the back, I can change a wheel but why when you can use this product :)

written by on 13/01/2011

Tried to use this after my rear tyre deflated courtesy of a large pothole. Followed the instructions, took ages for the gunk to inject into the tyre. No visible inflation so I tried driving as instructed but after a couple of miles realised that this wasn't working and had in fact shredded the tyre beyond repair.

This product is useless.

I Dont think this product would work on a tyre damaged so severly by a pothole it is a punture repair not a tyre rebuild!!!

I am age 71. Had a flat tyre in the snow, tried to use the container Tyre Weld held as emergancy repair, there was little or no presure from it, spent ages as the white latex slowly went in but no tyre inflation, took wheel off and took it to Kwick fit who could not repair had to have a new tyre and tracking done cost £95. I belive that the Tyre Weld was able to repair temporary but did not work, waste of time having it if that is all they do,

Tyreweld did not work for us. Got a puncture on my motorbike, and this stuff didn't work, instead it spewed liquid on my bike and the road behind for miles. didnt solidify to block the hole at all. Zero rating. Had to stop at nearby garage (7kms away) to check; tyre pressure near zero and still the liquid hadnt solidified to block the hole! Should have got a refund; cost $17 NZD.

written by nicluijos on 28/01/2010

Had this in the car for an emergency. When I got a flat tyre I used it, thought it did a great job. Problem came when I took the car to get the tyre repaired. I was told that it was not possible to repair the tyre after using tyreweld, and I would have to buy a new tyre (£66+ vat).

I did read the instructions before using this product, and it was not made clear at all that the tyre would be unrepairable after using.

Just beware..... It's a costly product, when you take account of the new tyre!!!!!!!

I found this review helpful because I was in the same situation. My opinion, garage is interesting to sell the new product that's why they try to assure us that the tyre is not repairable. IMHO

“It says for use in 4 wheel drive tyres, well I used in...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by stnick on 28/12/2009

It says for use in 4 wheel drive tyres, well I used in on a average sized wheel barrow tyre and it did absolutely nothing, zip, zero, zilch. So how is it meant to have enough pressure to fill a 4 wheel drive type because it beats the heel out of me.
This is either the biggest con job or just a complete dud. It did not have the capacity to seal the tyre nor inflate it.
I think it should have a warning label to say if tyre bead is broken ( when most flat tyres do do that ) that this product will not fix your problem.
You will still be stranded out in the bush due to false confidence in a dodgy product.
In the above star rating system they should have a zero category.

written by schwantz on 31/10/2009

I used the product when I got a puncture on my motorbike while returning home from a weekend trip. I was on the freeway a long way from a garage or service centre. The product did what I purchased it for. Getting me home safe. However the only drawback being the stuff that flicked out before the hole was sealed got onto parts of my bike and I would like to know how to get it off. Have tried turps, metholated spirits and even thinners. The stuff would not budge. Can anyone help?

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 22/09/2009

I used Holts Tyreweld on a fairly new tyre, it got me to the garage where I was told that I would need a new tyre as the product destroyed them as it made them irreparable. They showed me the inside of the tyre they took off with all of the residue from the foam and said from experience it takes too long to try to get the stuff off and even when they do, a repair doesn't stick to it. Had to pay £57 for a new tyre!!!!! Think this product should come with a warning at the least.

I found this review very helpful because... I have just got 4 new tyres (at some expense!!), and would not like to have the same problem. So this product is being kept for a REAL EMERGENCY. It would be cheaper for me to join a rescue service and get them to change the tyre if needed.....
