“Used to be my favourite beer. Now tastes like p_i_ss”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/05/2012

What have they done! All us wife beaters will have to turn to San Miguel. Stella used to be one of the best but it'll never see the inside of my fridge again. I'd now struggle to tell the difference between it and Carlsberg or a pint of p_I_ss. Never buy ever, Stella. Never buy ever Stella.

“What happened to Stella?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Toolm8kr on 10/05/2012

I have been drinking Stella religiously for ten years. I don't know what happened but for the last few months it has deteriorated into a complete waste. First their cans turned cheap. When they made this new "chalice can", all the tabs pulled off and didn't open the can. Every can was all wrinkled and mis shapen. They havent much better since either They took away the nice embossing they used to have on the can too. It used to be a classy can. Now it's just like a cheap, thin, foil like pos. Now the beer itself has become undrinkable. It is not the same beer. It tastes awful. Did they think that they could trick me and I was too stupid to notice? Thanks a lot Stella for ruining my favorite beer. I am never buying Stella again after a decade of patronage. L

Hi, I agree. I have drunk Stella for around 15 years and never had a problem with it. Having done a lot of experimentation with food I stuck with Stella because of it's purity. Over the last 6 months the quality has plummeted. Not a great shock with huge companies wanting more profit for less quality hiding behind a "quality" brand. I don't know for sure but I strongly suspect they are using genetically modified grain which, for me, is deadly. I can drink the stuff, it never makes me violent, or angry (that for me is a "how you are" thing, alcohol just magnifies how you are feeling) instead now I feel "dull" inside the next day and when drinking it I don't get that merry feeling I used to get. I always knew exactly where I was with Stella when drinking it, it was an honest beer which you could measure how p*ssed you could get. Now the more I drink the worse I fel without the euphoria! I have tried it in every type of tin and bottle, no different. I used to say that for some reason the 500ml cans were the worst and stopped buying them, now it is all of it. All I have to do now is find a new gem!

“fake artois!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by richardcllewellyn on 02/04/2012

Just how the makers of " stella artois " have the nerve to print belgiums original on the can these days is a mystery to me. first of all, it is now brewed in the uk and tastes nothing like the original, and the alchohol content has now been reduced for the second time. shame on them, they have ruined on of the great beers, in the pursuit of higher profit. I wouldnt use it to flush the toilet now,and pray that all lovers of good beer will refuse to buy this abomination labeled"belgiums original".

“watered down stella”

★★☆☆☆

written by bryanroper on 12/03/2012

over the recent past I have noticed the gradual watering down of my once favourite tipple. The latest drop I noticed this week is a reduction to 4.8 % by volume from 5%.If this had happened in the days of the Conners (beer testers)Stella and co would now be in the stocks. Why do very few people seem to have noticed what is happening? Shame on you Stella Artois!

I am not fan of lagers however when it comes to Stela I drink it quite often as this is served in my local pub.
It has nice light colour and it can be served from bottle or jug. When it come to taste I prefer it very cold. This beer is very refreshing and easy drink, makes good compliment to variety of dishes. It misses however on being hopy so reminds about all wheat beers from Germany. having 6.0Vol the beer represents great value for money. I would definitely recommend it to everyone who does not mind tasting something different. On the downside , Stela does not mix with Tequila!

Not a bad beer, although definately one that can go skunky so keep it very chilled in the fridge. Quite like stella with food as its smooth going down but doesnt have the nicest after taste, so it compliments food well.

This beer always gave me headaches. Don't know what they do with it, but there are many better beers, especially for the price.

Brewed at Magor near Newport, South Wales. Full of additives, that's its danger.

I agree, they have changed it and I now think they are using GM products. Has badly slipped downhill in the last 6 months. I have drunk it for 15 years and enjoyed (non aggresively) it I stopped drinking it now, terrible stuff. Like all manufacturers, take a good brand, over market, reduce quality and then sell "cheap" in big piles. Been done on plenty of other products.

Don't try to keep up with others drinking the likes of Carling or Fosters, Stella is far stronger and you'll start to feel it quickly if you're downing it like them. But you'll enjoy the experience much more with a great tasting and proper lager like Stella Artois.

written by djeva1 on 13/12/2006

Stella Artois beer, has got to be one of the the most doctored beers in in the whole of beerland. It has an appalling aftertaste similar to the chemicals used to clean draught beer pipes with, i am sure that could be the reason as to why Stella gives headaches and causes me to throw up. It is a disgusting beer and i cannot understand as to why it is so popular but i would not go to the extreme to say that Stella beer encourages aggression all that boils down to the mood and state of mind at a particular time

Interested in djeva1's comments. I drink a few pints of beer in the pub with no side effects but get a bad headache after just one can of Stella at home. I did find another comment on the net about headaches from canned beer but it did not specify which brew it was.

Been drinking Stella for 15 years. Not anymore. I am certain that they are using GM products. In the last 6 months the quality has plumetted and instead of a euphoric high I get dulled down and the next day I feel battered. I have never got violent on booze just a little daft. Now I just get a little low and hurt something Stella used to do. Here's my theory...Big brand, over market it, use cheap ingredients, sell in big piles cheap! I am looking for another tipple any ideas, quality is way more important than quantity!!

★★★★☆

written by Aston1601 on 08/10/2006

I think because Stella Artois has the aggression reputation people believe that is the effect it will have on them and they then become aggressive as a result of possible misconceptions? I don't know, I just think it affects people in different ways.

Expensive, and if drunk only in moderation, possibly worth the price, admittedly you do feel above all those with £1.70 Castlemaines.

I am a regular drinker of Stella Artois and positively refute any claims that it makes you violent. I offer any such claimant a fight at the Breck after school. Oh beloved Stella where Art thou now?

written by templd on 07/08/2006

I must admit, I only drink from bottles, as the taste is a lot better than from tap. In bars it often tastes a little too strong but chilled nicely in a bottle it's a whole different drink. With the special deals that supermarkets do, you can get 2 crates of 24 bottles for £16. Seems a little rude not to!

written by Anonymous101 on 01/08/2006

Stella gets the thumbs up from me. It is a quality brand and product, and a refreshing drink which is a favourite of mine and my friends too. It's distinctive flavour isn't to every-one's tastes though. I know this lad who only drinks Stella in order to gain respect from his peers and contemporaries. We all meet up before the football and he attempts to drink the Stella. This usually results in him being violently sick on the way to the match, or generally producing out of character aggressive behaviour. Please drink responsibly folks, and if you can't "handle" Stella then drink something a little less potent. I've told him, I really have, but he will not heed my warnings, and I'd hate for somebody else to adopt his foolish drinking habits.

Stella does have a nice taste, and goes down well on a hot day. However compared to other beers of the same strength I'm sure there's something about Stella that turns its drinkers obnoxious and sometimes aggressive. For that reason I rarely drink it. Also there's nothing "reassuring" about the obscene price of the stuff- it just lures kids into thinking it's a posh drink.

★★★★☆

written by cliffxtc on 31/01/2005

Stella Artois is many people's standard of strong lager on draught. It has been well advertised for years and has a slightly up-market image compared to many other lagers, maybe it's that Reassuringly Expensive thing. Completely inoffensive but also instantly forgettable in the UK guise. I think that Belgian is Best!
