“Harrogate store”

★★★★★

written by KarenRich on 24/01/2020

After years of wearing ill fitting bras which prodded and poked, I took the plunge and visited the Harrogate store. After a quick lifestyle discussion and being out at ease we headed for the changing rooms. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They brought out different styles, colours and sizes to try. The underwear was tried on with clothes to see the look achieved. Some 1.5 hours later I emerged from the store with the ‘girls’ back where they were some 20 years ago :) Highly recommended

“Bluewater shop too compact”

★★★★☆

written by IsabellaJones14 on 11/01/2019

Visited yesterday and although my experience was fairly positive, was disappointed that the bra I would have liked was out of stock. Sales assistant very patient and helpful. I was rather embarrassed to see as I left the fitting room, curtains only, a man sitting outside very close by waiting for his partner I presume. He must have overheard my confidential chat to the assistant about my bra and knicker sizes. Personally I never take my husband with me when buying underwear, leave them having a coffee or something. The problem is the Bluewater store is very compact and not enough space for those who feel the need to wait .

“The worst after sales service ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/09/2018

I went into the store in Harrogate. The lady who did the fitting was very pleasant and helpful and I went away with 2 bras, very happy though a couple of hundred pounds poorer. I was very happy with the bras until (only about 2 months later) I noticed the fastener on one of them was ripped at the seams. I rang the shop to ask what I could do (I live a couple of hours drive away)and spoke to an assistant who suggested I had probably put my finger through the material! After some persuasion, she agreed that I should send it back and they would have a look at it. I had to ring up to check they had received it as I heard nothing. I spoke to the manager this time who suggested I had been putting the bra on incorrectly and that was why it had ripped! A replacement was sent out to me. This bra was faulty (the decoration was missing). Again, this was blamed on me. At this point I asked for, and was given, a full refund. At no time did anyone apologise for the inconvenience I had experienced. I would never use Rigby and Peller again and would advise anyone thinking about doing so to save your money!

“Disappointing ”

★★★☆☆

written by KinsleyLockhart on 27/04/2017

A disappointing visit today. My third visit to Guildford. Always loved the service and fittings, always told friends to go but today I was disappointed. Sales girl was rushed, didn't give the usual advice. First bra was much to big and all she said was how does it feel. Previously the girls would have said nope that doesn't fit. I had no advice felt rushed and felt very disappointed after travelling and hour and half to get there. I expected better, as I usually had in the past.

“Excellent Traditional service”

★★★★★

written by NinaAndersen on 31/08/2016

If you want a one on one bra fitting then Guildford store is the way forward. She was honest and found the perfect bras for me to cover my different clothes styles. Nothing was to much trouble and she gave advice on best ways to put bra on and hand wash. The store is small but not all bras were on display. Really helpful member of staff. I bought a lovely full cup and balcony bra. I just loved the honest approach that she gave and was not pressured into buying. 10/10 and will be back to buy more

“They lie to sell you I'll fitting bras”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 1959Holland on 01/12/2015

Rather than writing it all out again, here is the email I just wrote... I would like to register a concern and complaint about the service I received in your Cambridge grand arcade shop on Saturday 21st November at around 5.30pm. Being a large busted woman who has varied between an 34E up to a 34L when pregnant and now down to a 30H i have bought dozens of bras and been fitted dozens of time in other stores. This was my first experience of Rigby and Peller and I was expecting excellent service from such a famous store. I was therefore extremely concerned when I received poor advice during a fitting. The styles of bra I said I liked only went up to an F, and I pointed out that, as an H, I was unlikely to find a bra, but the assistant suggested I have a fitting anyway just in case they sized differently. I was dubious but having previously shopped in Bravissimo I was open to the idea of bra sizes varying and fit being different. However when she returned with a fitting bra and put it on me - a 32G I think - the material front and centre was not lying against my skin. 'That's a lovely fit!' I was told. I pointed out the central section issue - clear evidence that the size was wrong and was told 'oh that often doesn't sit flat against the skin.' Um.... Yes it does. Anyway, she handed me another - The one I'd said I liked. An F cup. It was nowhere near big enough and cut into my breasts at the front - way too small in the cup. At this point she suggested going up a back size. This was ABSOLUTELY the wrong advice. I am a 30 back. Going up to a 34 would mean the weight (all 2kg) would hang entirely from my shoulders and the strap would ride up my back. Back ache and sore shoulder would result. I laughed at the suggestion because it was so ridiculous. She was clearly desperate to get me into an F because she knew that style only went up to that size. Going to such a high end establishment, selling such expensive bits of lace and wire, I expected excellent service. Instead I experienced - basically - lies about the fit of the bras, and a dreadful lack of knowledge about how to fit larger busted ladies. I will not be shopping in your stores again. I guess you don't get what you pay for after all. I will return to Bravissimo where the service is always excellent and the bras a quarter of the price. Sent from my iPhone

“slipping straps”

★★☆☆☆

written by Wansteadwoman on 28/06/2015

I bought 2 bras from the store at Conduit Street about a year, ago on a trip with a friend who wears their bras all the time. As it was my first experience of the store I wanted to treat myself to something pretty rather than functional. The fitting and staff were lovely but no lovelier than my long term experiences at John Lewis' service. The bras looked wonderful and felt very comfortable. I am sensitive to some fabrics but these didn't scratch or cause irritation. I walked out feeling wonderful and pleased with my £200 purchase, but that soon changed. The bras gave me a lovely shape so I love the style BUT the straps slip constantly so I have to adjust them regularly throughout the day. This makes me feel very uncomfortable, unsupported and embarrassed. In addition to the slippage, the stitching under the arm on one of the bras became unravelled after only a few wears. Unfortunately, I haven't been back to the store to follow these issues up, which is negligent on my behalf and means that I have no experience of their customer service. However, I will not be shopping with Rigby and Peller again and I continue to shop at John Lewis for my bras and receive great service, measuring and product reliability.

“Very Disappointed”

★☆☆☆☆

written by shazzx9 on 15/02/2015

Made a special journey to their Condut Street shop. wasn't measured, but informed I needed a 40 (I am infact a 42 & have been for the last year!) but as they are the "professionals" I assumed she knew what she was doing. I brought two bars at £190.00. Wore the first one for two hours last night & had to change it as it was ill fitting & very painful around my rib cage. It also rode up & stuck in me. I will be taking these back & expecting a full refund. Really very disappointing for the money charged you would excpected a well fitting & comfortable bra, but that is not what I got.

if your bra rode up that means the bra is to big in back band if it was too tight it would stay in place

Thanks for your professional & courteous reply (Yes that was sarcasm!) It was extremely tight & when I say rode up I mean that it stuck in me instead of laying flat against my skin. As you can see from this very rude reply, this is not a good company to deal with. Stay away.

“Friendly helpful stuff”

written by SJSJSJ on 15/10/2013

My first experience at Rigby, to be honest at the age of 40 I have not been measured, the staff were all very comforting. Even the delightful person, who informed me that I was wearing the wrong size, but gave me the best tips. I would recommend the Guildford store The quality of the bra is worth every penny. I feel like a new women

“To buy or not to buy”

★★★☆☆

written by Heba1 on 15/09/2013

Mixed feelings....Having bought a bra from the Bluewater branch 3 years ago and it's still like new, I was disappointed when my latest purchase became unwearable after a few months. (The lining had stretched and was badly rumpled). Same style, size and price, just two and a half years apart, perhaps they've cut back on their quality since last time? Online customer services were very helpful until they realised that the bra was over six months old, they told me a bra life was only designed to last for about this length of time. Paying almost £80 I would have expected more than six months wear, Pity they didn't tell me this at point of purchase. So,ladies beware... and for me it's Back to good old M&S.

“No time for customers”

★★☆☆☆

written by Genni on 26/08/2013

Had a really poor customer experience at Rigby &Peller Bluewater on Friday. The store was empty but the assistant an older lady made me the customer feel like I should not be bothering her. I have always bought my bras from Rigby and Peller. However I am not going to put up with this kind of experience and on the Saturday I spent my money in a small independent store only down side was I needed to order additional bras in my size as they only carried one.

“I feel like a new women!!”

★★★★★

written by Eenyhambling57 on 13/08/2013

I visited the Cambridge store, this is the second visit. The service was just wonderful, very helpful and delightful staff. I came away very happy. I had gone for a specific style of Bra for a special occasion. I took my dress with me and the advisor could not have tried harder to accommodate my needs. In fact she was so good I ended up buying two bras. I would not hesitate to go back, and will never shop anywhere else for my Lingerie now. I was shown a good selection of bras before I made a decision. Thank you, you were just great.

“So disappointed”

★★☆☆☆

written by Janeymh on 03/05/2013

It has been an ambition of mine for many years to go to Rigby and Peller to buy a bra, as I thought they were going to be really special. I went to the Mayfair store without an appointment . They were quiet and I was seen quickly. The advisor was very pleasant and visually assessed me as a 32H fitting. I have been wearing a perfectly functional but rather dull 34 FF Fantasie bra for years. I was hoping for something just as well fitting but a bit more colourful and pretty. She helped,me on with the bras and sort of 'pushed' me into place. I tried on about 6 or 8 bras and spent nearly £400 on three bras and a swimsuit. When I got home I wore one of the bras for a couple of hours and as I moved around, bent over etc I found that I bulged over the top of the cups and got that quadruple bosom effect which is the classic sign of a badly fitting bra. It was also rather tight around the ribs . I tried on the others and found the same effect. Clustomer services at R and P were quite helpful advising me to return them ,which I did. The swimsuit appears to be fine. Th advisors should get you to move around wriggle about, and, crucially, bend over to check that the bra still looks right during normal wear, especially if you're on the large side. They have promised me a refund and said they would ring to confirm, but I'm still waiting to hear . I will be out of pocket anyway as it cost me £6 to send the items back. A very disappointing experience.

“Expensive mistake”

★★☆☆☆

written by cassie18 on 28/04/2013

Maybe I caught them on a busy day but I found the experience very rushed. The fitter did tell me correctly that I was wearing the wrong sized bra and I am grateful for that. However, the selection of bras was very limited. I asked for bras suitable to wear under thin t-shirts but was only offered ones with lace. I bought two, which is my own fault, as they weren't really what I wanted but I did feel hurried. Unfortunately, trying them on briefly didn't reveal how very uncomfortable they were. After only a short while, I found I couldn't wear either of them. Unlike any other bra I have ever bought, the under-wire came up very high in between the breasts and really cut in. Two expensive bras have now been binned. I accept responsibility for not being very assertive but I wouldn't recommend them.

“Absolutely fabulous service”

written by on 26/03/2013

Today i was treated beautifully at rigby and peller in westfield shepherds bush. It is so unusual to b treated like a human being. Victoria Ansere served me and was wonderful. I am delighted with rigby and pellers prima Donna bras and would highly recommend them. You cant go elsewhere after buying in rigby and peller. Their customer returns policy was a1 and left me with a bounce in my step

“Badly fitting bra and too expensive!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 01/03/2013

Was recommended by a friend to try Rigby & Peller. Staff were very helpful and seemed to know what they were talking about. I was in the shop for over an hour and a half. In the end I purchased 2 bras £144.00 (£72.00 each).I asked the assistant if they sold t-shirt bras because I wanted 2 everyday bras I have only been wearing them for a week and already the straps dig into my skin, the lace makes me itch and they are too tight around the ribs.I thought these bras would be the best ever, they are the most uncomfortable bras I have ever worn. I will never buy another bra from R&P apart from anything else the cost is way too much for everyday bras. Next time I'm going to go back to M&S for comfort

“unreliable ”

written by on 02/08/2012

Purchased a bikini wore it twice. It faded and i now have a white line up the back of the bottoms. They were kept correctly and washed correctly. Despite several phone calls and emails to Rigby Pellar i have to date recieved no reply. I then purchased a Bra and Knickers a year later i paid extra to have them delivered in time for a wedding. I thought things might be different a year later unfortunately not. Items did not turn up until two weeks later after my chosen date.No apology again reply to email/telephone call. I have recieved my £6.00 pound for postage back. No mention of why they were late no apology. I have recieved better service for garments a fraction of the price. I feel customers are taken for granted not valued. I would buy some where else they do not deserve the custom or your money.

“DISGRACEFUL”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/07/2012

I made a special journey to their Knightsbridge outlet to have a fitting. I was sold three bras and, despite advising that they felt tight was told they were the correct fitting. I wore one bra for the day at Ascot and was in agony, it was ill fitting and far too tight across the back. When I read the label they had given me a size 34". As a size 16 who normally buys 38 or 40 I was not surprised the bra hurt me. I obviously could not send one bra back as it had been worn, but returned the other two. They refused to give a refund on one because it was in the sale - a mere £45!!! So, I spent over £200 and will NEVER recommend this unprofessional outlet. I am still fuming as I write this.

Expensive and inflexible shop. I am very disappointed as I made a special journey to get the bra from bluewater branch. Unable to exchange the bra even though I was advised by the shop assistant who was not very happy with the fitting at the time of sale that I could exchange it if I am not completely happy with my purchase. They went back on their words! I will never recomend the store to anyone and will never patronise this store again. I am now stuck with an expensive bra which is not even fit for purpose. Cheaper and better bras in M&S. You will also enjoy a pleasant after sales service. Does not even deserve ONE STAR.

“No idea what the fuss is about! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/04/2012

I wanted to find a decent strapless bra for my wedding, as well as a t-shirt bra for day-to-day wear, so I booked a fitting at the Knightsbridge store, expecting to pay a little more than normal for something that would fit perfectly and last well. However, I was BLOWN AWAY by the prices, which seemed to start from about £80 for the simplest bra! The assistant stood and watched me as I undressed, which I found very uncomfortable and intimidating. She immediately knew my back size just from looking at me, but guessed my cup size to be around a DD-E, when I have ALWAYS worn an F or FF (every other bra fitter I've seen previously has confirmed this). She came out with a selection of about 8 bras, most of which were obviously too small (there was quite a lot of overspill - not a good look). When I told her I didn't think they fitted properly, she not only insisted I was wrong, but started saying that the reason one of them in particular didn't fit was because one of my boobs was bigger than the other. I have honestly never noticed this (and I'm someone who scrutinizes my body a fair amount) so I felt it was not only an exaggeration but said in a way that made me feel uncomfortable and criticised. Then came the icing on the cake: when I asked if I could try a couple of the bras in a FF, I was told that they don't go up to that size! So THAT'S why she was so intent on packing me off with a DD/E! Outrageous. I left feeling like I'd just completely wasted my time. Given R&P's reputation, the fact that they don't even go up to a (reasonably standard) 30FF is unfathomable. I'll definitely be sticking with Bravissimo in future - a decent range of sizes, much better customer service and all at a fraction of the price!

They do go up to a FF they probably just don't want you to try it because they know the correct size for you and are just trying to be helpful (although maybe had got it wrong on this occasion).
