Two bicycles were stolen from my garage, Bank of Scotland home insurance refused to pay out because the bikes weren't named on the policy - they weren't mine, I was just storing them temporarily for my brother who was in the process of moving house. You only find out how good an insurer is when you need to claim - Bank of Scotland policies are worthless! I have had contents cover for 12+ years and never made a claim and feel that it was turned down for the most spurious reasons.. I will be doing a little research on insurance company reviews before I buy my next policy and encourage you to do the same... Am very disappointed with Bank of Scotland.

I've had to make 2 claims in the last 5 years. Once for a destroyed pda and the second time for flood damage. Both times they failed to provide the like for like replacement policy I was paying for.
For standard home furnishings they seem fine - although they are currently trying to get me to accept only £100 for a £400 set of curtains. However, for electronic equipment their technical specialists are simply con artists. I'm a computer expert and have high end gear. Their replacement offers are of absurdly inferior quality. After 4 months of arguments (without a laptop) I'm now having to go to the formal complaints procedure. Despite having the manufacturers and a computer shops statements that their offer is of inferior quality to my original laptop, I am still being denied a suitable replacement.

Been with RBS for two years. Changed insurer this year because got cheaper quote elsewhere. Pay for the insurance on monthly basis by Direct Debit. At the end of the 12 month term cancelled the Direct Debit. RBS want to charge me one month payment on new term and then cancellation fee. The help line insisted they were was no negotiation UNLESS I took a new insurance with them. These people are crooks. Please do not use RBS insurance unless you have a law degreee and are prepared to fight for every clause of the policy.

Been with RBS for years, made my first claim this year, complete nightmare, took them months to sort it out and it was only a small claim, the customer service is shocking, they had me trailing about from shop to shop to get quotes wanting one thing then another, with the excess it would have been easier to just pay for it my self, as soon as my policy is up I will be changing

Made a claim on my treasured audio amp. They have an evaluation company called evander evaluations these people kept offering me inferior replacements of inferior quality and cheap value.Im still in dispute with them now, what a nightmare the valuation company are out of their depth with more specialised equipment and then its all left to you to try to sort out..and then you apparantley have to prove your right about the quality..dont go there... poor service and out of their depth when replacing quality with quality.i.e they would replace a mercedes with a mondeo and tell you its got four wheels 5 speed 5 seater and silver so its just the same .five weeks now and no replacement offered which i will accept. We recently switched our mortgage to the Royal Bank of Scotland and switched our home insurance to them as well. We have only been with them a couple of months.
A couple of weeks ago our home was hit by lightening, and everything that was connected to a phone line blew up! Having heard about insurance companies before and how they are about storm damage, I was a little wary of phoning. When I phoned I was so surprised. The people at the end of the phone were brilliant. They were totally understanding and said they would appoint electrical and computer companies immediately and that they would contact me directly.
Once the electrical and computer companies phoned, I had replacement items within a couple of days - in some cases the very next day. All my items were replaced old for new and not necessarily the same product. In many cases I was upgraded.
The electrical company could not supply my sky box, therefore the insurance company said to contact sky direct, get a letter from them to confirm the installation costs etc, and the day after I sent the letter, the insurance company phoned me to say that all had been approved and that they would send a cheque directly to Sky and then Sky would contact me to arrange installation.
I cannot believe how smoothly everything has gone, and how quickly it has all been sorted. All the staff are pleasant and polite - they phone back when they say they will, and they are very quick and ensure everything is followed through.
This has got to be the best home insurance company around, and although I am a big fan of the Royal Bank of Scotland anyway, I will be ensuring that I stick with them, and will be using a lot more of their services in the future.
All I can say is a BIG thank you to the Royal Bank of Scotland for all their help and assistance.

Hmm...this review is surprisingly well written and correct in spelling and grammar. The sentences so nice and round, all the main points mentioned in a very marketing fashion. How strange! The bad reviews seem so much worse in quality, but guess what - they actually sound genuine!

I have home insurance with Royal Bank Of Scotland. My boiler recently broke and flooded my kitchen. They have got out of paying for my boiler by putting it down to wear and tear.
