“We Will Rock You”

Walked out at the intermission. High school musical at its worst. Amateurish acting coupled with poor singing and little dancing. How is this a great hit in London? An expensive mistake!

“Fantastic singing and enthusiasm”

★★★★☆

written by on 10/09/2011

I was so worried after ready the negative reviews. My husband and I went to the Liverpool emoire last night and although the story was a bit cheesy, you had to accept it for what it was. The singing was FANTASTIC and the dancers put their all into the performance. The audience were all standing at the end, singing and joining in . The cast received a fantastic reaction from them. If you are going to see the show I'm sure you will enjoy it, just don't expect too much from the story. Nearly forgot, the band were amazing, sounded like Brian May etc.

“It's a musical”

★★★★☆

written by on 05/09/2011

Sept. '11. A very full Dominion theatre. This is a slightly sanitised version of Queens hits, it is a play with music, and a little comedy. You will not see a band on the stage but a group of dancers who all sing, the lead roles being taken by several singers, they all play their part well and appear to enjoy what they do. There is very little attempt to interact with the audience until the final 15 mins of the show, when hand clapping is encouraged. It was apparent that some in the audience wanted to be on their feet and treat this show as a 'sing-a-long' this is not what you get. It is worth seeing, but think panto/musical. If you want an on your feet sing-a-long see 'Gary Mullen and the works' a very good, slightly tongue in cheek version of Queen; various dates this month from Margate to Inverness.

“Awful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jjulaa on 01/09/2011

Where do I start! Although I would hate to hurt the feelings of the performers in this musical, I have to say it really was awful almost to the point of being unbearable. I went with a large group of people all of whom were equally dissatisfied with the lack of a storyline that made any sense or was related in any way to the songs. It was very very random. There were parts that were clearly supposed to be funny, but unfortunately nobody laughed and very few people clapped at the end of the performance. If I'm honest, after the first 10 minuted I could see where it was going and could not wait to get out of there! Please watch a different show!

“Very very Disappointing!!”

written by on 31/08/2011

I went too see this show this week-end and have being looking forward too seeing it for quite some time. It was the worst show I have every gone too see. Poor poor acting, singing was ok only. What I mean by this is if you are a Queen fan, which I am, the singing was no where near the quality you would expect from a show called

So disappointed, I have been dragged up on Queen thanks to my Dad (but have grown to love them) Hearing the songs played so loud does send a shiver down your spine but not one song did the cast do justice too (the male lead in particular was awfull) The story is so thin it is untrue, Ben Elton needs to take a long hard look at himself it was just simply awfull and cringeworthy(Guess we can now guess who actually were the funny writers in the young ones, black adder etc) If you are a Queen fan, play the music loud at home or wherever else and save your money otherwise you will be sorely, sorely disappointed

“Dire.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by halffullgirl on 11/07/2011

This show was the biggest pile of rubbish I have ever...endured. I love musicals and I love Queen so how can it have gone so wrong? Anyone who says that this is Glee does Queen is insulting the talented cast of Glee. At least their show is funny and doesn't have awkward tumbleweed moments! God, the jokes were crass and repetitive, the leading lady's sarcasm was so incessant that I nearly stormed the stage and punched her in the face, and they killed off the only decent character/human being at the interval. And it was TOO LOUD! Hear that sound guy? No? Just because you're deaf doesn't mean we all want to be! Turn it down! or at least learn about how sound waves travel and direct your speakers accordingly! And sack the god-awful old bloke. He made me want to kill myself. Bad show. Bring back Eurobeat!

“Awfull, really awful........Queen fans stay away !!! ”

written by Jenfav on 08/07/2011

What a big disappointment....!!!! I love Queen's music, but this show did absolutely nothing for us in respect of Queen's music... There was absolutely NO atmosphere , and the one person who did clap during the first half, was looked at by everyone and instantly stopped. It was like a cross between Glee / Karaoke / high school musical. It had more amusing moments than musical moments, but i went to a musical not a comedy !! Ok to be fair the actual singing was good, but the story very week and not linked to the songs at all. I was expecting to be on my feet clapping and singing for 70% of the evening, instead after deciding that we would return after the interval as we had paid good money, we could only sit thru one more song, and got up and left. !! Very disappointing as it was my husbands birthday present !! Don't waste your money find another show to see...

Grew up loving queen songs. Wasn't really true to the story of queen or the band at all. Had an american guy singing freddies greatest tunes in a cheesy american accent - not good. The leading lady had a superb voice, but was like a limp lettuce on stage. The two characters of black/african origin were excellent! The futuristic story line was a good one, but what did it have to do with queen???

When I was younger I was a huge fan of Queen's music and Ben Elton's comedy. This show has basicly managed to pee all over that. What a complete and utter load of rubbish, it was the longest 2 and a half hours that I have spent in the Mayflower theatre. When the interval came I managed to get 2 pints down my throat to numb the pain and if I hadnt been with family and friends I would have gone home after half an hour of this complete tripe.

“This is a great musical for kids and carefree adults....”

★★★★☆

written by Neil9327 on 07/05/2011

This is a great musical for kids and carefree adults. As someone said earlier it is basically a remake of "Glee" or "Grease" but using the music of Queen. Quite camp.
But it is definitely not made for real "Queen" fans, or indeed any "rock music" type of people, who would regard this musical as an insult or at very least a sissy adaptation (who wants to see Justin Bieber or Britney Spears types of people, when they were hoping for Ozzie Osborne or Iggy Pop)

I think there ought to be a "Queen" music made for real "Queen" fans. Come on guys!

As a massive theatre goer I'd been wanting to see this for years but never quite got round to it. When I saw it was on at my local theatre I booked two tickets for the opening night which happened to by my husbands birthday. WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH. Awful. I spend the whole of the first half willing for the interval to arrive so I could talk my husband into leaving. As it happened I didn't have to do much to talk him into it as he felt the same way. Think there were some very talented performers wasted on a mind numblingly boring, dismal and cobbled together "story line". Don't waste you money on this. Reminded me of similar performances by the Butlins redcoats!

“I saw the show in London, just before Christmas last...”

★★★★★

written by on 13/04/2011

I saw the show in London, just before Christmas last year and was so impressed, I'm going to see it again in Cardiff...this time, taking my kids and husband with me!

The storyline was nothing like I expected. It's futuristic and reminiscent of Rush's '2112' where rock music is banned. I wonder if that's where Ben Elton got the inspiration for it?

Some of the costumes are tatty, in a goth/grunge/punky sort of way, but they're meant to be. They reflect the characters identities...they're rebellious bohemians after all.

The dancing, singing and music are excellent and my mouth was agog at the opening scenes!

I doubt seasoned musical goers would enjoy it, but us rock fans will 'get' the concept entirely. It's funny, romantic, yes cheesy, but it ROCKS!!!

Highly recommended :)

My husband and I went to 'we will rock you' to celebrate our second anniversary. I am not a rock fan myself, but went because my husband was so excited to watch the show.

It is HORRIFIC! DISGUSTING AND AWEFUL to say the least!

Our disappointment was so high, we walked out in the intermission,

There was not only no storyline, but no show or entertainment, a couple of ugly voices singing ugly songs and wearing ugly clothes!

There was nothing memorable from this musical except how BAD IT WAS.

I would definitely never recommend it to anyone else even if I want to torture them, this is too much torture!

DO NOT GO!

I am a big Queen fan and me and my fianc went to see the show in the Wales Millennium Center in Cardiff, we were both greatly disappointed to say the least, all in all the singing talent is excellent but the story line is pretty pathetic and the humour is very childish at best. The only way I can describe the show is GLEE DOES QUEEN. We only paid around £20 per ticket and were really glad we didn't pay anymore. The best part of the show was seeing Brian May come out on stage and perform 30 seconds of the final song. If you like real cheesy musicals then you'll probably enjoy it but if you're a Queen fan, don't waste your money.

★★★★★

written by on 28/03/2011

We Will Rock You is by far the best musical I have ever seen. I am very rarely speechless, but having seen this I was lost for words for a fair while! The cast is extremely powerful, the vocals are incredible, and the set and production are amazing. From the opening scene I was on the edge of my seat. I took my younger sister, who at 11 is too young to be overly familiar with Queen music, and she was dancing and watching with an open mouth throughout. The storyline I felt was, contrary to other reviews, really quite strong and a thought-provoking concept. We sat in the stalls which I would really recommend to feel part of the action - people were on their feet and dancing for the majority of the show. The only disappointing thing for me was the lack of available merchandise! I wanted a momento of this fantastic experience and there was very little on offer, although there is a website if you really want to purchase something afterwards. Overall I would highly recommend this show for adults, teenagers and children, as the music, even if you are not familiar with Queen, will have you on your feet and you will get lost in the world the writers have created. A fantastic night out!

Wish I had seen this site before I went to the show -- would have saved me about 30 quid.

I've seen literally over a hundred musicals in my lifetime, too many to remember. This is the first time EVER in my life I walked out of a show, BEFORE INTERMISSION even. I lasted about an hour, debated whether I wanted to watch anymore of this, or go to bed in my hotel. Bed in my hotel won out.

Like a lot of people also say in their reviews, the singing talent is EXCELLENT. The story, dialog, jokes, set design, dancing was absolute rubbish. Some people claim they loved the dancing, but not me. Awful.

Do not see -- go see Legally Blonde or the new production of Wizard of Oz. Those are pretty good instead.

Great fun. Don't expect the strongest story or the cleverest jokes - you won't get them. But expect enormous fun and great songs, well performed, and excellent dancers. Go along, enjoy it, laugh at the jokes (especially in the second half), clap along, sing along and come out remembering why you love Queen's music and with a smile on your face. I'd recommend it as a fun, cheesy, show. Take your friends and have a good night out!
