The Nokia 6280 looks ok and the digital camera style is quite nice but that is about it. I previously owned a Samsung D500 and originally wanted an LG Chocolate or the D950, but I let the operator at Orange talk me into the Nokia 6280. I must admit that it looks ok and the picture quality is fantastic, but the memory is rubbish. I could store tons of texts, images, video's, downloads on the D500, but this one is constantly asking me to delete items in its memory to accomodate new stuff. Overall, I wish I'd stuck to Samsung. I think this Nokia is a poor man's version of a Nokia! Think I just said it all.

I upgraded to the Nokia 6280 from the magnificent Nokia 6230i. I wish I hadn't bothered. Nice effort but the Nokia 6280 is not one of Nokia's best. It does have a great screen, lovely design but the battery life is poor, video camera lets me down and tends to freeze. Unreliable.

The Nokia 6280 is an o.k. Phone good picture quality, a few bad points a few good but overall a good phone.

Nokia really need to work on their quality control. I expect dust to accumulate inside mobile phones with removable covers, but not with non removable ones. My Nokia 6280 became dusty after 3 days, so I took it right back and cancelled my contract.
Unacceptably poor build quality mars a very nice usable phone, which has been on sale for months, so it's not like they haven't had a chance to sort it out. Carphone Warehouse were fine about the cancellation, so fair play to them.

I would not recommend the Nokia 6280 mobile phone to anyone. If you want a phone that just looks good and is a Nokia then go for it. If you want a reliable phone, then run a mile in the opposite direction.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Nokia 6280 mobile phone. There are some little details which can be annoying, but nothing serious enough for you not to enjoy the phone. There are much more positive views on this phone than negative, and the negative are only minor. The phone is very easy to get used to, and once you are used to it you will love it. It's quick and very fast at loading pretty much everything.
The battery does run out quite fast, which can be annoying, but again it all depends on how much you use this phone. If you are constantly listening to music it can actually run out in about a day.
The settings for the media are very good, for example camera and video, but Nokia are missing out some edit options, that in my opinion are necessary, for example flipping the image.
I think the phone looks really smart with its motion of the number board sliding up and down. It seems very strong and safe, and it's up to you when you want to use them.

The Nokia 6280 is a great mobile phone! The camera is good for pictures and video. the sound is OK, but the feel of the phone leaves a bit to be desired. The overall build quality could have been better.

I had the Nokia 6280 mobile phone for a few days (15 or so) and I decided to keep it. There are a lot of bad reviews. The main issue is that all network providers try "customize" the handset, and it isn't always a good thing! After small issues with previous versions of the firmware (3.36-3.6-3.66) Nokia released FW 3.7 (which is currently in my phone) and this seems to be OK.

I have had the most disappointing time with my 6280. After having it for about 1 month it has gone back to the factory more than 4 times already and it has had the sim card changed 4 times as well. I simply do not know what the problem is but it keeps freezing. I have updated the software to 3.7, but the problem still exists. I am now considering disposing of this phone in exchange for some other phone. And this time it will not be a Nokia. I had a bad experience with my Nokia 6610 at the beginning as well!

Having read many (mainly bad) reviews about the Nokia 6280 mobile phone, I wasn't quite sure if I should get this model or not. Surely, the specs on paper are impressive. What really did it for me was the 640 x 480 pixel resolution for video. That's almost camcorder quality! But, I also read good reviews, and I have come to the conclusion that people with software version 3.6 or later didn't encounter any problems like shutting down and so on. I also had the impression that certain network software (particularly "3") caused problems on the Nokia 6280.
I finally purchased this model from a local dealer for £160, which I thought I couldn't go wrong with. It is a T-Mobile branded model, which is fine because I am on the T-Mobile network.
I have had it now for 2 weeks and I am mightily impressed. Once again, this is not the perfect phone, but it's close - really close. The reason why different people give phones different scores is that different people have different requirements they look for in a phone. There are still people out there who passionately believe that the Nokia 3310 is the best phone ever made - and yes, if you just use your phone for texting and phoning people, this particular model is hard to beat. I am a bit harder to please. I want my phone to dance, sing and do the washing as well.
I had the Samsung D600 for a while. Very good screen and TV-output, but this model was very disappointing in the battery life and MP3 handling department. The Sony Ericsson W800i had good battery life AND MP3 handling qualities, but such a tiny screen? And when you apply your own wallpaper the network logo hides half of it. Now, this is why I rate the Nokia 6280 so high.
The screen is big and bright (all information like signal-strength, battery-indicator, time and network provider are squeezed into the corners so there is as much space for your wallpaper as possible). It's got a very good quality and easy to use MP3 player on-board, and the battery life is superb. When switched to 2G-network only I have to say. Bluetooth is fast. The memory card extension slot is easy to access, and the latest series 40 interface works a dream (you can customise the interface until the cows come home). Reception quality is top notch. Camera is 2MP, and yes, no other phone at the moment has a 640 x 480 pixel video resolution. Not to mention the very convenient (small) size of this device. The phone can play a video when a certain person calls.
I demand a lot from a phone, I know. But essentially it's the little things that turn a good phone into a brilliant one. Here is one of the small but brilliant features of this phone...
In order to conserve battery life, phones with such a high screen resolution (240 x 320 pixels) go into sleep mode after a while, which means the screen goes completely blank. If you have a missed call or a text message waiting, you have to physically press a button to check. Not so with the Nokia 6280! The screen goes blank as well after a while, but if you have a missed call or if you have a message waiting, the phone clearly indicates this on the standby screen without you having to press anything. Another thing... When you slide the phone closed, the word "Lock" appears for a few seconds on the screen, which basically means you only have to press the menu button to lock the keys quickly and efficiently.
Want more? You can change the colour of the font. So let's say your wallpaper is very dark; you can change the font colour to white or a shade of yellow for example. Neat! And ANOTHER thing. Have you ever got annoyed when you are listening to your favorite music via ear-buds, then swiftly turn your head (when crossing a road for example) and hey, the ear-buds pop out because the cables are hanging so tight around your neck? Another simple but very effective solution from Nokia... they just put a loop in between the ear-buds and the phone-connector. Presto, you have just got to hang it around your neck and you have got plenty of room for moving your head any way you want. The sound quality I found very impressive, at least on par with the Sony Ericsson W800i, but not as good as the Motorola-solution. For some reason even their (Motorola's) cheapest phones with MP3 capability have an unmatched sound clarity. If music is all you want from a phone, go for a Motorola, definitely.
The not so good things on the Nokia 6280: When sending a text message, the phone will not notify you when the message has been sent. It will only come up with a very small moving icon at the top of the screen, which appears and disappears in a couple of seconds. The slider doesn't feel very stable. When the phone is closed it has a lot of room, and it doesn't sit tight like the Samsung offerings. Internal memory is only 6MB, and taking into account the pre-installed themes, sounds, videos and games, you are only left with about 3Mb to play with! This is actually quite disappointing. The backlight only stays on for 10 seconds and you cannot change this. This might be more annoying for different people, but I don't mind too much. A thing which I wouldn't call "bad" but I do wonder if this is a good idea... When the battery is low you cannot use MP3 or camera functions to preserve some juice for standby, but you can still make calls until the battery runs flat.
Last but not least. The Nokia 6280 is a 3G phone, which means you can make video calls. I was not able to test this feature as my T-Mobile contract doesn't include any 3G capabilities.
I have to say, this mobile phone is the best I have had so far, and I had over 100 different models over the years.
I do realize there have been many issues with this model (screen freezing and phone shutting down etc.), but the latest software version should have taken care of all this. Some people were complaining about scratches on the screen or dust behind the screen. I think it's in the way you handle the device. This is a hi-tech piece of equipment, so treat it this way. Anyway, if you are concerned (and I think you really should be) make sure you can exchange it or you can get a refund if you are not completely satisfied. I, for once, am really impressed. And I am not very easy to please.

Hi, this is demiggi again. I had the Nokia 6280 now for almost 4 weeks, and I feel I would like to add a few things to my own review from 2 weeks ago. At the end of the day reviews should help other people to make up their mind whether to buy this product or stay away from it. So I suppose updating current reviews is a good idea.
First, the good thing I have discoverd over the last 2 weeks. As I said in my main review of the phone the screen is absolutely stunning. The colours are vibrant and it is extremely sharp. But now that we here in England have finally had some sunshine, I was expecting the screen to be fading under the sunlight - guess what, it doesn’t. It is completely readable, even under direct sunlight.
Secondly, the bad thing I have discovered about this device. Just after I reviewed the phone 2 weeks ago, dust appeared under the screen. Something I put down to how you handle the device - and I always handle my phones with utmost care. I don’t know how it got there, probably through the earpiece opening. This problem highlights the poor construction quality of the device.
Now, even though I discovered a good and a bad point over the last 2 weeks, I would like to downgrade my review of the Nokia 6280 from a 9 to an 8. I just find it annoying that such a brilliant screen can be clocked up with dust so easily, which makes the viewing experience somewhat less satisfactory.
Still, this device comes highly recommended. Just be aware of this point.

The case can be removed to allow you to clean the dust from the screen....

I have had the Nokia 6280 mobile phone for 6 weeks, and now the screen is black after I tried to transfer the Dirty Turban file to another folder. Has anyone else experienced this? Apart from this happening, it is a great phone!

I had the Nokia 6280 mobile phone for less than a week. When I tried to apply one of the themes, the phone just went blank and it wouldn't open.
I can't get it exchanged or repaired.

I've had the Nokia 6280 mobile phone for 13 days, and today I'm taking it back to change it. I got this phone as it's the latest one out and seemed really good. I'm a heavy texter and store many many pics on my phone, so need a decent memory. I can have about 10 messages on the phone memory and that's it. The phone memory itself is unbelievably poor, and although it has expandable memory that is really poor too. My last phone, a Samsung, was excellent - stored loads and I never reached the maximum! I am very disappointed with this phone and I can't wait to get one with a decent memory.

I tried to apply a theme that was on the Nokia 6280 mobile phone itself, but the phone shut down completely. I took it to shop where I bought it from, but the man refused to exchange it and said there was no guarantee. It is such a costly phone! I don't know what to do. I took it to a repairer who said there was something wrong with the software, and they said it can't be repaired in Nepal. Can anyone help me? If so, could you please leave a comment? Thanks

I only had the Nokia 6280 mobile phone for 3 days, but I had software issues. One minute I was able to disable my caller ID, then the next it had disappeared off the menu! I'm taking it back today to get a Sony Ericsson W810i.
It is a shame because I liked the look of the phone :(

I know that after only owning the Nokia 6280 handset for a few hours I may be a bit premature in writing a review, but when I received my handset I was over the moon.
It really is a lovely looking phone, and in the short time I have played with it, I have found it easy to use, and the features on it are fantastic. I even received a video call, and the sound and picture were brilliant. However, after around three hours, the handset decided to switch itself off and never came on again. O2 tried to tell me that the battery needed charging, but the battery was in fact full and the phone was plugged in when it died! I thought maybe this was a one off and I was just unlucky, but my friend's sister's had exactly the same problem! Her phone switched itself off when she was receiving a bluetooth picture and never came back to life! I am now awaiting my replacement handset, and I hope I have no trouble with the next one! The only thing is, O2 are out of stock, so now I have to wait a few more weeks (I have been waiting for this handset since February, so I'm a little disappointed.)

I agree totally with this, I was over the moon when I received my new phone and impressed by all it had to offer. The ease of finding my way around the screens was excellent; but within a few short hours it knocked itself on and off, finally staying off. The phone is charged in full and will still not stay on. The most annoying part was I had transferred pics and music from my old Nokia 6230, plus had downloaded a ringtone before it went down. It's so frustrating am going to ring O2 to replace it but after reading reviews i am a bit apprehensive to try another one.

The Nokia 6280 mobile phone was a last ditch attempt with Nokia's. I had several bad ones before this, and I decided this was going to be make or break. Well I'm glad I tried this one.
It's GREAT! For those of you who remember the 7650, it is very similar. The screen is wonderful, and the phone works really well. The software is a little slow sometimes due to the internal memory being tiny, but with a memory SD card it does get better, and it hasn't bothered me.
The phone has a lovely sliding action, and you can do a lot with the phone closed. Buttons are well placed and good, even with my "chubby" fingers.
The memory slot is on the outside, so at last Nokia are learning.
The back is a nightmare to get off, and I spent 10 minutes because I was scared of breaking it, but I got there in the end. At least you won't have to do it often.
The camera is really good, and the phone has some nice features.
MP3/radio is great; loud and punchy, and the external speaker has got better also.
Overall, this is a great buy. I did have an N70, but that only lasted one day!
I upgraded from a Nokia 6230i, and this is much better.
Written on: 08/05/2006
Hi Andy. what happened to the N70. I was going to get that one or the 6280. Which is best??

Thank you, this is just what I needed to hear, I had my N70 for 2 days and put it back just now waiting for my 6280 to arrive, I hated the small buttons on the N70.
Written on: 10/05/2006
N70 had tiny buttons, poor build quality and just not nice. When I unboxed my N70 buttons were already stuck in. Still had no problems with 6280, my advice is try one in a shop and fiddle for a bit. I still love mine.

The Nokia 6280 mobile phone has a very good camera with quite good quality photos, and it also looks very stylish. But, the battery isn't very good. For the amount of time you charge it, you don't get much out of it before it needs to be recharged again! It also has a very bad memory capacity, so I wouldn't recommend this phone.
written by AzieD on 06/03/2006
The Nokia 6280 is a user friendly mobile phone, which is always an advantage. It's stylish and looks great, but remember looks can be deceiving. The radio is clear, and in all, the phones not too bad. However, I would have liked to know that the memory wasn't very good. My memory was full after storing 10 pictures and 1 real tone, and I don't think that's too good, especially if you want to download songs. The phone does come with a memory card, but this isn't up to scratch. Maybe my card is faulty, but after installing the card and switching the phone on and off, the memory is still full and won't read the card. I was told that the camera was the best around, but my Sharp GX20 mobile phone had a brilliant camera on it, and it was very clear. I am a bit disappointed with the Nokia 6280 mobile phone.

Henryteoh's Response to dotmejo's Review

Yes, Im agree dotmejo. Today is second time I'm facing this problem of freezes. I bought Nokia6280 last week for my wifes birthday present, so glad of her. But I am irratated, just few days ago something terrible happened. I used my N70 to send a photo by bluetooth to my wife. Suddenly it froze and i tried many times and also can't turn it on. Its crazy for me also my wife. The next day I went to check and get repaired, the reason is me, I sent over the size to 6280 phone memory( 6MB plus, phone memory 7MB), then froze. And today, I just sent only 1MB plus. Whats happened??? 1MB also can't support it, what a story... please help me. I have to send it tomorrow, but this not a problem. The problem is my wife is unhappy, again we argue for a different phone, she said that it was a waste money but I had to change it. I'm a Nokia Supporter, now i also worry about my few friends. They just bought it through my recommendation. What can I do for these two cases? Anyone gonna know what to do, pls tell me... thanks!
