This is not just false nostalgia, please find anyone who used to with in the Lion’s recipe department, pay them lots of money to recreate these iconic sweets ( even if it’s only the black, dark red and yellow ones), and restore order. The Maynard’s imitation are dreadful

I have been eating sports mixture gums for over 50 years. It used to be a close call between Maynards and Lion but now Maynards have been substituted with inferior, tasteless lumps of gelatin. Maynards now fail to make the team sheet and cannot even been seen as a sub with such a poor performance on every level. Time for retirement for them!!

I can’t rate these sweets at all They were terrible. They tasted of chemicals. I couldn’t take any fruit flavours. I wouldn’t buy them again and certainly wouldn’t recommend them. I must admit I was quite shocked by these sweets. I’ve bought wine gums and jelly babies before and enjoyed them. I couldn’t eat them.

Found an almost empty packet in my coat today. The last 3 tempted me to buy more but to my surprise they are now tasteless!. What a shame as they were my go to gums

I know these are not Lions brand but they should not be associated with sports mixtures, they are nothing like the original. How awful, tried 2, soft with a chemical taste, throwing the rest away, never ever buying again.

I had always loved sports mix. Great taste and really chewy. Now they are absolutely awful. Due to the usual craze of bowing to the 'have to bow to today's garbage' they now have less sugar in them. I'm not sure if that was a factor as they are now so tasteless, eating cardboard would be preferable. The texture has also changed and they are so soft I could be eating jelly babies(also rubbish now) I was sooooo disappointed and tipped the whole lot in bin. Will never buy again. I'm a grown woman who can decide for herself whether to eat sugary stuff or not. Changing recipes to suit the nonsense out there is going too far for me. I'm guessing the rest of your sweets will be just as bad now

I used to love these as a child 40 years ago, each sport had their own distinctive taste and the black and deep red was my favourite. I was bought some today and was so disappointed, the gums are softer and the taste is not there, they all taste the same which is very bland cheap wine gums. Maynard have ruined a perfectly great sweet

I don’t know what they have done to these sweets, they used to be top notch but now they have no flavour whatsoever, every colour tastes exactly the same, so bland and not enjoyable at al. Last time I will buy them unfortunately

I thought it was not possible to make a bad gum sweet, but this one has proven me that not only it was possible to make the worst sweet I ever ate but to exceed in doing so (I put in the bin after the 3rd one). I do not understand how this terrible sweet has managed to get on the shelves to terrorise the customers. Well done to the manufacturer quality controllers, you should be fired. Texture and flavors "0"

Loved these when I was younger but bought some recently and they were awful. Why change an excellent sweet and make it like a poor wine gum. Very disappointing

The name ‘Sports Mix’ is synonymous with the delicious Lions product we 70 somethings grew up with. These Maynards version however, is nothing like the original and should not carry the name Sports Mix. Name them ‘Wine Gums’ as that’s what they are like. Soft, tasteless and certainly not something I will be buying again. Yuk!

What has happened? Completely bland. No flavour just slightly chewy rubbish. Ruined an icon

You have destroyed the iconic sports mixture. Soft, bland, tasteless imitation of what the product used to be. Even Aldi’s copycat product are better than these. This recipe is just like a substandard version of Bassett wine gums, which is reasonable product. Very poor decision to change the recipe. I shall not purchase them anymore and will avoid Maynard Bassett products. I never bother reviewing anything - but what you have done is absolutely atrocious to a confectionary favourite.

I love these however I have just tasted a red one which I had to get rid of as it was so bitter, never happened before. Bit worried about eating the rest. Had already eaten a few before trying the red.

Absolutely correct the originals were much harder, made by Lion, these are like jellies almost I felt I could not continue after eating just a few. What have they done to the original I hope the recipe is not lost. Lion wine gums were my favourites though, which I preferred to the original Maynards by far but they have also managed to ruin the original maynards ones too. I agree the Aldi ones are better than these but I would like the real ones back. I think lion did sports mix wine gums and fruit shaped ones but the wine gums were out of this world until these guys took over Cadbury Bassets ?

What have you done? Will never buy again, taste like sawdust! Not fruity one bit. These used to be my favourite sweets!

Now vile. Flavour ruined and texture ruined. No warning on packet. Clearly they are trying to save costs bu producing several different sweets from an identical, disgusting recipe. Once a family favourite, soon to be off the shelves as more people realise.

Absolutely loved these until you changed the recipe Stop scrimping and saving and go back to how they used to be I wont buy these or midget gems again.... Massive let down Typical UK industry “never mind customer satisfaction, lets just make more money” Shame on you Maynards Basset

Not bought Sports Mixture for a while, spied a pack on the shelf, treated myself. What a complete let down. It is clear that the recipe has changed. They taste like cheap wine gums, no longer the hard gums I used to love so much. It is all well and good that there are hundreds of complaints below mine on the same topic, but WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT. I have not tried the midget gems, but fear they have gone the same way. No wonder the country is in the mess it is in if Sports Mixture have lost their flavour. I will be writing to my MP and maybe even the PM to try and get this sorted. Put Brexit on hold until this is sorted.

The recipe has changed, sports mix are now just even softer wine gums with less taste. Pointless.
