Had a bathroom leak in our home that damaged our carpet that needed insurance coverage to repair. The person that handled our claim responded to our claim quickly and answered any questions that we had and sorted our claim within a few weeks. The money wasn’t a lot, however it helped significantly.

“Can't get through to speak to anyone”

I didn't receive a renewal notice and tried to contact sales team, customer services and complaints about my renewal but after several attempts and hours on the phone and 100 emails nobody answers me.

“UNRESPONSIVE and INCOMPETENT”

A water leak accepted liability by the provider Severn Trent.A claim was submitted 3 months ago and claim still not resolved. 91 year old disabled lady without a kitchen or laundry facilities for 7 weeks. Now penny pinching and will not replace with new the water damaged kitchen units but wish to repair them. Three weeks of complaints but fail to talk or respond. Awful, incompetent and no concern for their customers

“Dreadful ”

Didn't set up my online account. Didn't send renewal info. Took me 2.5 hours to get it sorted. When I came to pay it couldn't pay online as they hadn't given me a reference number !!! Spent another 2 hours on phone - customer service wouldn't take the payment sent me off to pay online - with no reference number !!!! Takes on average 25 minutes to get them to answer phone. It took me 21 minutes to sort insurance out with another company from start to finish - My advice - don't waste your time with Legal and General.

“Worst insurance company ever”

I have been with Legal and General for the past 12 months for my home insurance didn't have any issues until it was time to renew. I received several letters asking me to renew, as the price was quite reasonable I decided to go ahead. I previously paid upfront for my policy but decided this time to pay monthly with direct debit. I logged into my account and could only pay upfront, not a great website by not having this option. I then decided to call them to arrange this over the phone, I called on four different occasions and each time had to give up due to the wait on the phone. As this was becoming a bit of a joke and the fact my policy expiration date was fast approaching I decided to email the CEO office. A member of the executive team emailed to say they would ask someone to call me. This call took a while to materialise and even then the wrong person called me and I was cut off. How this company manages to make a profit I don't know as they seem to make it extremely difficult for you to remain a customer. I ended up swapping to another insurance company at a better price and a very high customer rating.

“Waste of money ”

I contacted Legal and General regarding damage to my living room ceiling caused an unprecedented level of rain during a bad storm. Bearing in mind the guys from home emergency confirmed the roof was in a good state of repair, and cleared leaf debris from the base of the chimney stack near to the flashing which was the reason for rainwater backing up and finding a way into the loft etc. We live in an area surrounded by hills and forestry so leaf debris is inevitable, therefore, we could not have foreseen the results of the storm damage, however, we had our claim declined and to add insult to injury, we were lied to regarding the severity of the storm and the condition of our roof. Thir report was pure fabrication. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THESE PEOPLE.

“Escape of water”

This is the worst experience of dealing with a company I have ever had. Our bathroom has sustained damage from a leaking pipe inside the wall in bathroom. Legal and general hired out a 3rd party group called the buildings consortium group. They sent a surveyor to my property who turned out to be pleasant and even gave me some advice. Took lots of photos then left. I then got my answer a few days later from this consortium group. CLAIM DECLINED. They deliberately manipulated the report to tell fibs. They even only used a small amount of photos as other photos taken by there surveyor would have proved there bull wrong. This company only works for legal and general and are only there to decline claims. They claimed I SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THE PIPE LEAKING INSIDE THE WALL. even though it was running down inside the wall and behind the tiles. They also claimed a failure of sealant around the bath. But hid there photos of underneath the bath as it showed dry. I fully intend to make an official complaint through the financial omsbudsman then eventually take them to small claims court. This company is breaching its legal contract by not providing insurance paid for. If you value your property and want it protected then DO NOT USE LEGAL AND GENERAL. There policy is not worth the paper it is written on and you will struggle if unfortunately you need to claim.

Legal &'General are the biggest badies going, they love taking your money for premiums, but when it comes to paying out they try every trick in the book to wriggle out of paying. Do not insure with them.

“Home insurance with bike cover ”

I had a bike included in my home insurance, but when the bike was stolen they did not accept my claim. My bike was specifically named and included in the insurance and covered up 1200 pounds. This cover made the insurance about 50 pounds more expensive, but ultimately it proved useless.

“Excessive renewal automatically”

Automatic renew amount I challenged, only to be told I did my renewal through an agent and not direct. The agent stopped trading in 2010, however I continued to be charge an agent fee, who received the fee not the agent. Immediately moved insurer.

“Home contents laptop repair issue”

I'm so dissatisfied that I will cancel house contents insurance with them. It is unrealistic to expect customer to pay the insurance excess for laptop repair (Broken screen) before it is even been picked up for assessment. And not tell them that up front. And cannot get money or machine back even if you decide not to go ahead with their offered repair/replace/refund option.

“Why, Why, Why, take out insurance?”

On the 1st of June I found out that I had a leak under my kitchen floorboards. There was over a foot of water and so I opened a claim with Saga who contacted their underwriters who are Legal and General who contacted a surveyor from BVS. I was told that as the water had not damaged the building there was no case and so it was closed. I had to repair the damaged pipes myself. HOLD ON THERE. Isn't that what I pay my insurance for? How was I to know that the pipes were about to leak? The legal jargon as usual does not explain in plain English what I was actually insured for. To cut a long story short I HAVE GOT ABSOLUTELY NO-WHERE, NO HELP FROM ANYBODY AND ABSOLUTELY NO INSURANCE MONEY. In what has been a really stressful 3 months I have sorted this out by myself and unfortunately paid for the repairs as well. I will tell you that I will be cancelling my insurance with Saga and will ensure that I will never again have anything to do with Legal and General.

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS”

The most horrendous experience I have ever had. Terrible communication, did not follow their own complaints procedures and refused to offer compensation recommended by the Financial Ombudsman Service adjudicator. 9 months on and I am still waiting for my claim to be settled despite having no kitchen or cooking facilitirs.

“L&G worse than being burgled ”

Since being burgled w have waited 5 months for a response to our claim which L&G are now refusing using every excuse in the book to try and deny our claim. Having never made a claim in our lives we are made to feel like criminals for making a genuine claim. Has made the horrible and personal experience of being burgled a 100 times worse. Will never use L&G again - wish I had read the reviews before we signed up. Now we have a battle on our hands to try and appeal in order to replace a couple of precious pieces including a gift from my husband on our wedding day. I wish I'd read the reviews first so that I'd be forewarned about their poor practice and propensity for cheating customers out of their claims.
