Carjet gave us quote for 14-day rental in Spain as £210.
The actual charge in Spain was £380, ie.e. almost double that given at booking reservation. They introduce a £75 fuel charge which is wrong since the tank-full on ford focus costs no more than £45 and you can never empty it completely. There is an additional "extra compulsory" insurance and so on.
The car was faulty as it did not have fuel cap.
The complaint on the return did not lead anywhere. Very rude staff.
Very bad experience

Carjet hired us a car with Golcar Rental at Malaga airport. Golcar hired us a car with a worn out clutch which failed on the way to our villa. When we rang them they came and towed their car away and left myself and my husband and a 2 year old child with all our cases on the side of a mountain with no car (it was 3pm and 35 degrees)! We were left with no car for over 6 hours and spoken to very poorly. When we returned home we were charged £560 to our credit card and told that we had to pay for the clutch to be mended as we drove the car through a field. Carjet did nothing for us. They failed to reply to my emails and when they eventually replied they told us it was not their problem.

I have used Carjet on numerous occasions and heve been very pleased with the overall service. However, because some of our trips have only been for a week we have returned the car with more than half a tank of fuel which we have had to pay for.
On our last trip in January I noticed that amongst the things that are not covered by the isurance (glass, mirrors wheels etc) the clutch has now been included. I can understand being responsible for any damage that was caused by myself but issues with clutch may well have caused by previous hirers. I think that this is now standard with other hire companies.

CarJet has a relatively easy-to-use website, often competitive prices. Can pay on arrival. My comments are specific to Palma de Mallorca airport.
You never know which firm you'll get at that end using carjet; some of the firms are so slow that if you are more than 10th in the queue you may be there for over an hour, sometimes longer. They know you are coming, they know your flight etc. but they just plod through the queue taking sometimes 15 minutes to service one customer.
I've seen people giving up after an hour and just catching a taxi to their hotel/apartment.
When I e-mailed carjet to mention this, I got an e-mail which I found rude which said what did I expect with such a cheap hire? I replied that they should try at least to put some pressure on the firms they use at the Mallorca end to be more responsive to customers, but they came back to me to suggest I should go elsewhere if I didn't like it.
The other downside is, as mentioned in bad points above, that in any hire over 3 days you are forced to pay for a complete tank of fuel, which is a waste if you can't use it.
Their so-called comprehensive insurance cover without excess does not seem to cover windscreens, tyres (even punctures) and underbody damage, so if you want to cover this the extra cost is quite expensive especially as it's a fixed fee per booking, so it makes a short hire even more pricey.
They charged me a very expensive daily rate to hire child booster seats, too.

I rented a car via Carjet last October (2008). The car (supplied through Solmar) was fine.

However after a couple of days I noticed that Solmar had charged me for 60 litres of fuel and the Ibiza I was given only held 45 litres.

Solmar weren't prepared to do anything when I returned the car and after conversations with Carjet I am unable to get them to even accept this as a problem - they just keep repeating that the petrol price is fixed per litre (which has nothing to with the issue).

I would avoid using either company.

This is verging on deception and neither company has been able to provide a suitable reason.

It is unlikely that many people hiring cars would spot this very dubious over-charging, not knowing the capacity of the fuel tank for the car they are hiring.

The car was not the one we ordered. The wait for the car at the airport was 1.5hrs. The key got locked in the car and the company continued to tell us daily to await its arrival, which we did. It eventually arrived on our last day! took 11 days! Numerous calls to carjet who were totally unhelpful. Their customer services is a disgrace, when we got home and complained, it has taken them 4 months to tell us it is not their responsibility, and that we should get a refund from our credit card.

The policy of paying for a full tank of fuel at Alicante for a 4 days hire is unacceptable I will go back to hirecarsin spain where I can return full. Costs a little more but even after that I will save approx 30 euros on the overall cost of the rental.

Since then I now use a little company called Econorent through hirecarsinspain.com and they have been great although only at Murcia and Alicante Airport. You can return the car full of fuel and there are always triangles and the correct safety equipment etc.

I don't use them any more - and it is doubtful that I will again in the future, finding dealing direct with the car hire companies gets a significantly better price.
Carjet need to shake up their communication with their car hire companies - and check them out as far as car road worthiness and fuel charging goes.

Like other renters who have had to contact there customer services department when you have a grievance you will get as many emails as you want for months on end promising to look into your complaint but nothing will come of it. I hired from Goldcar through Carjet and was stung by the return empty policy they now have. A tank of diesel was nearly as much as the car rental. Beware you will end up at the biggest queue in the airport when you arrive and I can only assume that they are signing lots of hirers up with the cheaper headline hire rate. You will end up paying for it !. My car hire was in May 2008 and last day of October after dozens of emails and phone calls before I received there reply from the car rental company that I would not be reimbursed for returning the car full as I had been lead to believe by the agent. My last rental was through Amigoautos and I found there terms and conditions much more upfront

Carjet deals with companies that in our case supplied a full tank of fuel which is more expensive than UK and than gives no refund on used fuel. When I complained to Carjet they sent an email saying it was clearly shown in the terms and conditions.

I booked the car from Canada from the CarJet web site at the beginning of April. We picked up the car at the SolMar desk at Barcelona Airport in August. Short line-up with really quick service. Free upgrade to a more comfortable, very new (under 2,000 km) car with great gas mileage. Dropping the car back at the airport took only a few minutes. Would definitely rent through CarJet again, and would most certainly recommend them. Regarding paying for gas and returning the car empty - we knew all about it at the beginning and filled the car accordingly. It really was not a problem and I think it makes things much quicker.

I have used carjet on two occasions, each time the car supplied was an upgrade on that ordered, the cars were clean and low mileage. The cars were hired for three days in each instance so it was agreed beforehand that they could be returned with a full tank and I received a full credit for the amount paid for fuel on pick-up. The staff at Alicante & Valencia were extremely helpful & I encountered no problems whatsoever.

We had to return our CarJet car to the airport, which interrupted our holiday. We were supplied with a vehicle that we could not lock. This was only discovered once on reaching our destination. After various phone calls and no help what so ever, the only option was to return the car to Carjet, Alicante Airport, where we encountered in our opinion very rude, and unhelpful staff. Eventually they agreed to change the car. But the story didn't end here. Once we reached the motorway on our return journey, the car started to make a loud droning noise, at this point we had had enough. Needless to say we will never use Carjet again. We still await an answer to our complaint too, three weeks ago!

I recommend avoiding this company. Charged my card and cancelled the booking. I had to send a email to get a refund, which was then less than I had paid. They left me out of pocket and no car.

Ditto what the person below says, at least a week wait on any emails, and I couldn't raise any issues over the phone.

I booked a 7-seater care for a party and the vehicles on offer were very good. However, a full tank had to be paid up front and that was above the rate for petrol at the pump. The worst aspect was that the vehicle had to be returned empty. It is impossible to calculate arriving back at the airport with an empty tank. The result was that the vehicle was returned with a tank more than half full with no rebate and the next hirers still had to pay for a full tank.

We booked a small car for a week in Spain to collect from Valencia airport. The collection of the car was very easy and we were provided with a very tidy Ford Fiesta with good trim. The no extras and no excess feature is good and the collection and drop off was hassle free.

The only issue that I have is that they provide you with a car which has a full tank of fuel that you have to pay for in advance (and this was very expensive - nearly £60 for 45litres of unleaded fuel - way higher than UK prices) and return the car with an empty tank. I didnt realise at the time of booking that fuel has to be paid for in advance.

Like most people on here, I have complained to Carjet about the price of the fuel and the 'Full to empty' policy (it's virtually impossible to return a car with an empty tank - how do you judge it when you have a 90 min motorway journey to drop the car off?) and I too have received the standard 'we are looking into your query, this could take up to 28 days' reply but I don't hold out much hope of a satisfactory resolution.

All in all it was a good experience with Carjet apart from the fuel prices/policy.

A few times I have lost details or typed my email address in wrong. Once I even got them confused with another company and had the staff looking round for my booking. On every occasion they have worked hard to please me.
