“Beware”

★☆☆☆☆

written by alun1974 on 07/10/2023

Very unscrupulous company. Someone ran into the back of my car 2 years ago - they admitted liability and car was fixed no problem. 2 years later I get a solicitors letter from LV saying Hastings were now refusing to pay and that I had to sue Hastings and attend court to recover LVs money! I've obviously said I don't want to sue Hastings and if they are owed money then sue them themselves. Since then I have received multiple emails from LV threatening me. They've said it is in the T&Cs and are now saying they will put the accident down as a fault on my record and destroy my no claims bonus if i do not issue legal proceedings! I have reported to FCA and have contacted the BBC - I am also seeking legal advice to try and protect myself from their constant bullying. Be aware that if you take car insurance with LV this could happen to you

“LV does nit value existing customers ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sonnyc81 on 05/10/2023

Home insurance quote increased by 33% by LV. LV increased my home building and content quote by 33% despite no claims being made. Online comparison site offered an equivalent quote gir £225 which is what LV quoted last year. Clearly LV do not want loyal customers snd offer cheaper deals only to new ones. I won't be using LV in the future. I also will not renew my car insurance with them until they rmvakye existing customers as much as they do new ones

“Unreliable and Deliberately Difficult”

Have insured several cars with LV over the years but they have recently become expensive and difficult to deal with - and a bureaucratic nightmare. Saved 30% on renewal preimum by going elsewhere.

“Excessive increases ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Phillipp on 22/02/2023

Been with LV for many years , recent renewal 65% increase , over past 2 years almost 200% in premium , no claims made . You contact them to query the increase and you get the impression they actually don’t care whether you stay with them or not . They used to be good but unfortunately no more .

“Don't move house ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KeefD on 16/02/2022

We had a joint motor car insurance with LV. We were warned that although it being cheaper the 1st year, it will be substantially increased the following year. To be hponest, it wasn't that bad, but if you move house a 3 minute walk from our previous address and the postcode as good as the previous you are in for a bit of a surprise! They tried to up our insurance by £199, saying it was because of the postcode. How ridiculous as we got quotes from other insurance companies and also asked them to give quotes for the previous address. Yes, you have guessed, not one single penny difference and LV were saying it was because of the postcode change. Absolute rubbish, as we both used to work in insurance and that is just not true. We explained all this to LV and although the assistant tried her hardest to get the increase back down, the system just would not allow it. Therefore, at that ppoint we said we would be going elsewhere with exactly the same cover and the same cover as our original insurance. The assistant said she would do exactly the same and wouldn't blame us. So, here we are happy with our new insurance company, moved house, saved £199. Just because LV being very greedy. We would never ever recommend LV as a result.

“Probably the worst insurance company in the world!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jnozzer on 05/10/2021

I guess you pay for what you get but with LV you get nothing. Communication is non existent, you must chase them up continually and then you are passed around different departments and going through security several times. After eventually getting through to the right department you need to explain why you are contacting again even though you provided all information on previous occasions. What's even worse is their arrogant attitude and unwillingness to listen. I could write a book on this lot but just to warn you - keep away.

written by Kevinwozzer on 30/10/2018

Hi all Rang LV today, as I have 2 insurance policies with them and thought I’d get a reasonable quote. Our lovely staff weren’t that lovely and my existing policies meant nothing. If you are after the most competitive quote shop around instead of going to who you know,,, it’s worth the effort. I did expect, more fool me,, that my historic busines meant something,,, it doesn’t. So shop around

“Outstanding service and easy to contact - very impressed”

★★★★★

written by Dirvine on 12/09/2018

LV have offered a very good car insurance service all round and I have been very impressed. This year: I had an accident that was dealt with quickly and efficiently, Had a new quote at the same price as the year before (That I couldn't better, I've changed cars and they swapped insurance policies over very easily and efficiently and offered to insure my old car while I sold it. How good was that? I have no hesitation in recommending LV to anyone and congratulations to the management team and staff who run it.

“Worst experience ever dealing with a car insurance claim”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nicola1988 on 09/03/2018

After a car drove through a red light straight into the side of me, the insurance company have caused me unbelievable stress, the way the calls are handled, they don't call you back, everything is being reviewed and they have no time frame on anything. they give out wrong information constantly and lie. The day after the accident they have the cheek to write to me putting my insurance up £300. I will not be renewing with this company and would advise people to stay clear. Today I have asked to speak with a manager , apparently this takes up to 5 days to happen!

You don't say in your review which company are you talking about? If its LV, your experience is quite different to mine. I have had car insurance with them for at least 9 years and have found them an excellent company to deal with. Very efficient helpful staff.

You dont say how often you have needed them, apart from paying your premium?
I am planning leaving LV as my cover although is exactly the same without any changes has increased by over £100.

“Cancelled a policy without telling me”

★☆☆☆☆

written by hywel on 21/02/2018

I am 62 years old and have been licensed to drive cars and motorbikes since I was 18. Apart from the occasional speeding fine and one accident (a car drove into the back of me), I have never been in trouble with the police or had any problems with insurance in 44 years of driving. This came to an end in January 2018. On the way home on the M3 one night I was stopped by a police car and, sitting in the back, the officer told me I was driving without insurance. I was stunned. I buy my insurance normally every year and I remembered purchasing a policy from LV. I checked my emails and, sure enough, there was an email from LV confirming the policy starting at the correct date. The policeman was very kind and said there had obviously been an administrative error somewhere and, because he couldn't check the details with LV at that time, issued me with a HO/RT 1 form requesting me to present my documents at the local police station. He also let me drive my car home. The following day I called Liverpool and Victoria. After the usual delays, I was put through to a lady who told me my policy had been cancelled for non-payment. Why? I asked, I told her that the first payment had gone through correctly when the policy started and she said, yes, but the second one didn't. I asked her why I hadn't been told about the problem and it turned out the address on the policy was slightly wrong. (36 instead of 33) She said this meant the bank didn't recognise the address as being connected to my card and that their warning letters went to the wrong address. I was stunned; the policy was bought online through Compare the Market and the policy documents were all sent by email. When I asked why they didn't use email to warn me of the problem, she said it was not how they did things. (Their marketing department didn't have the same problem - I had a mass of marketing material sent to me by email.) I have now received confirmation that I am being fined £300 and will receive six points on my licence. LV have refused to issue an indemnity document, saying that I have should have checked the address in the letter that accompanied the policy document. The resultant effect of this shambles will cost me thousands of pounds in additional premium and it seems there's nothing I can do about it. Nightmare from start to finish.

The same has happened to me and I was mortified by it.
They notified me by email but I’d had my documents saying I had insurance beforehand so I just assumed it was a marketing email about cancellation. The debit card that was on the account that they collected from each year has expired. They don’t call as they are too busy after a discussion as to why they hadn’t informed me other than via an email.
Now looking at 6 points and £300 fine. I may appeal. I’m furious

“Cancelled Insurance Without Notifying ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tania128 on 19/11/2017

I started my policy 3 weeks ago with Liverpool Victoria - I was asked to send through a few documents to be verified. I was on holiday when they first asked for the documents so when I came back I called them and they extended the time they needed the documents by a week. I called the customer service team to inform them that there was an issue with the NCD documents, the gentleman on the phone ensured me that he had put the information I had told him against my policy and not to worry about sending this specific document. The next day I had an email saying that they were going to cancel the policy as they hadn't had the documents they needed (the document the gentleman had told me not to worry about), so I responded to this email to confirm what the gentleman had said on the phone - from that, I had no reply - I had then heard nothing from LV up until today (3 days later) and that was a text message saying they had cancelled my policy - I called them immediately as they decided to cancel my policy at 11am, whilst I was at work, 2 hours away from home, with no response from my final email and nothing to tell me they were going to cancel it so I could sort something out before travelling to work. I am disgusted that they think this is ok and on top of this - I have had £40 taken from my account, on top of this months insurance for a cancellation fee. There is no chance in HELL I would ever recommend this company for insurance and I am beyond disgusted with customer services and the business' policies.

“Great until you need to make a claim, GET EVERYTHING...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ABabis on 08/06/2017

They have been consistently competitive on price, so I have used them for many years, but then I came to make a no-fault claim. Another driver drove into my car whilst it was parked. Initially the service was fast and efficient to establish it was uneconomical to repair my car and I was not at fault. Despite several requests I have at no point received any written/ email correspondence form my claim handler. He clearly preferred to do everything over the phone. This may not have been a problem until the payment they processed for me was only two thirds of the agreed sum. All knowledge of the previously promised sum was denied. I have asked for recordings of all telephone conversations. They say that calls form the engineers (who give you the initial offer of compensation ) are not recorded. However I had mentioned the amount on calls I had made to the admin team (which are recorded) and these calls have not yet been made available to me. This will be going to the financial ombudsman.

“EXCELLENT SERVICE”

★★★★★

written by 90Wilkinson on 10/03/2017

Excellent service. I have changed cars twice in two years and within minutes of speaking to LV on phone, they had changed my insurance over to the new vehicle and reduced my insurance payments. Car broke down and they were out within the hour to sort it. They are friendly, helpful and offer cheap deals on their products and services. Best I've come across in years. I would highly recommend them for sure.

New to LV , but am delighted with the service received to date . They have been so helpful every time I have contacted them and they spoke to me with respect and things simply explained and no pushiness. Their price was far less than others too. I would certainly recommend this company

I have taken a fully comprehensive policy with you on 2'2018 for my car a Nissan note at the time I had no proof of my driving in the last 5 yrs I have been awaiting a letter from RSAM giving details of my safe driving record this brings my safe driving record up to date 50yrs plus quite an achievement in this day and age 42yrs driving HGV vehicles helped a lot your quote of £2000 plus is out of all proportion on a car valued at £4000 if I post this information on to you how much difference would this make?

My parents had a similar problem where LV kept fobbing them off telling them that they were waiting for the 3rd party to respond. The claim went on for nearly 6 months. My parents were sitting in their car which was parked, legally, at the kerb. The 3rd party came around the corner, lost control and hit the rear of Dad's car. They admitted liability straight away. After finally threatening LV with the insurance ombudsman, they were paid out - the full amount. LV try anything to get out of it. If you are not to blame and the 3rd party have admitted liability, LV should pay out - simples.

What is the fire excess on your fully comprehensive cover? When I get a quote it states the theft excess is the same as the compulsory excess, but there is no mention of the excess if my car was to catch fire.

My policy state that the fire excess is the total excess shown on your schedule, ie the compulsory and the voluntary excess combined (Mind is 250+250).

Yes there should be no problem, insurance companies have a data base to share information to guard against fraud. But you can always ask your insurance company to send you a letter stating your current no claims status.

You would be extremely lucky to find one that will accept your Australian no claim history. Insurers are not that generous in U.K.

We were told to use their preferred garage. It was a reputable main dealer repair centre though. We're insured with RAC/ LV and just had our car repaired last week.
Report this content GrahamBuckle Written on: 05/02/2014
Yes you are entitled to use a repairer of your choice, but by using one of the insurance companies approved repairers you will get a free courtesy car while your car is off the road. They are also bound by service level agreements, so you get a quick turn round time on the repairs. Any repairer has to submit an estimate which the insurance company will assess to make sure it is fair and reasonable for the repairs required.
Report this content Guest_55 Written on: 05/02/2014
If I recall correctly when we claimed, this was possible but then we would not have the use of a courtesy car. To keep things simple we just used LV's recommended repairer who carried out a top class repair job.
Report this content uah888 Written on: 05/02/2014
Absolutely. You can choose whatever repairer you want. However (I did a bit of research on this) you may not guarantee a hire car, you may have to pay the difference between their own repairer estimate and yours, you may not have the repair work on the same warranty. On the plus side LV policies are value for money. You get what you pay for. I cannot comment on their customer service because I never have a claim fortunately. Good luck.
