The most gorgeous phone I've ever seen, I've given it to my 10 year old because he doesn't call anyone, he has it for emergency use. The battery has to be charged at least twice a day. It's shockingly bad for any phone even if I'd paid £20 I'd be upset. NOKIA SHOULD RECALL THIS BEAUTIFUL TRASH

Nokia 8800 is a beautiful phone!
Its more of a fashion phone. Functions are okay but its like carrying a piece of jewellery in your hand!:p

Great phone have had for over 2 years and after dropping into a cup of tea still kept on going can't say that about many phones would get another one if anything happens to this one.

Let's face it, this is less a functional phone in the most up-to-date sense of the word, and rather a fashion item. As of the year 2000, by all *practical* accounts this phone was out-of-date before it was even released. Yet I would recommend it, and I do rate it at least 7/10 on value for money, because quite simply this phone is not aimed at the wider audience. The target market for this phone is not going to be concerned with handset cost. Besides the regular phone functions, what you are getting is exclusivity and quality craftsmanship, stuff you don't get with a run of the mill plastic phone. If that is what you are after, the 8800 is a great piece of kit. Later models had more memory, but in my opinion the original 8800 has the best looks. A bit of an indulgence when new, it will become a little treat for someone who doesn't need all the fancy gizmos of the modern Smart phone.

The Nokia 8800 is the worst and most expensive phone I've ever had. If you ring Nokia there is a option saying "if you are the owner of an 8800..." such are the problems with this handset. I was lent a loan phone (Nokia 1100) that although wasn't half as luxurious thoroughly thrashed the £600 8800 and only cost 20 quid! This phone is a joke, never again will I buy Nokia.

written by samsungfan on 18/05/2007

This is definitely the worst phone I have ever owned, after only five months the phone was constantly crashing and the battery life appeared to get shorter over time. I don't usually buy Nokia phones but was floored by the 8800's looks, I definitely regret that decision, the features are poor, the phone is practically faulty from day one and Nokia should definitely recall them.

This phone is a colossal disappointment. Despite its neat styling, it is littered with faults. Apart from its propensity to crash , often in the middle of a call, the keypad is poorly thought out: when writing text messages, the bottom three keys - 7. 8 and 9 - are hard to use because they are insufficiently clear of the slider. The camera is of such poor quality that it would have been better to leave it out altogether. It looks and feels nice, but so do a lot of other phones costing a fraction of the price.

The Nokia 8800 is a great phone to admire but personally I would have to admit not very helpful when it comes being practical. The usage of the phone wouldn't be as bad if the price of the phone wasn't so high (Because I paid £600 for mine) then I would say, it isn't as bad people are making it out to be..

The worst phone I have ever owned. System crashes at least three times a day in spite of several software upgrades. Nokia really should be ashamed of this one. They can have it back for a fraction of what I paid for it if they want.

★★★★★

written by Gobbie on 30/01/2007

This is a great phone! I'm thrilled I got it. It looks the business, and I don't know anyone else who has one!
I use my phone mainly, surprisingly, to make phone calls! I send a few texts now & then. I occasionally take a photo. I want to be able to sync my contacts with my e-mail app (Outlook & Notes). I want an alarm clock. That's about all of my main needs......I don't need/want a built-in espresso maker or surround sound system! This phone fits my needs perfectly.
It comes with a nice desk & travel charger, compact bluetooth headset, wired headset, spare battery, real leather pouch (even smells of good leather!) & chamois cloth.
Each battery lasts me a few days with pretty regular calls. Not like the old Nokia 6310's that seemed to last forever on a charge, but not a problem either. I bought a USB charger for convenience.
Get one. You know you want it! You cannot fail to be impressed. It is a step above any other phone I've looked at or used, in terms of sheer class. By classy, I mean that it's not flashy.....it just looks the part. I'm not a snob at all, but I'm enjoying having the best phone/gadget for a while!
Go for the black one. The silver is a bit too shiny and the plastics on the rear look cheap.
Yes, it picks up fingerprints but it hasn't bothered me nearly as much as I thought it might. I clean it sometimes with a camera lens cloth (same as a glasses cloth) which does a better job than the Nokia chamois.
One tip.......I couldn't work out how to change the earpiece volume during a call so I called the special sirocco exclusive premium helpline (did I mention this phone is classy?!) because I couldn't find the answer in the book......press the joypad to the right during a call to increase the volume, and left to decrease. That solved the only niggle that I had, which was that I was struggling to hear in a noisy environment. Not anymore!

Just get one!

“This 8800 model should be recalled by Nokia and fixed....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 9of10 on 02/01/2007

This 8800 model should be recalled by Nokia and fixed. A decent battery would go a long way for starters and more memory. Memory should be external so one can put whatever they see fit in the phone. For the cost it simply is not worth it when you look at what it has. The screen is not that expensive to replace as you might think it was. Its just a phone rushed through the pipeline without a proper thought put into the battery lasting at all.
In this day of age you would expect a better and more powerful phone for the asking price but it was a con from the start. Its a pity the phone does look well but looks are nothing when the product doesn't work as promised it does.

The battery life is on the Nokia 8800 is no use what so ever, even when you get a spare battery when you buy the phone. The charger tells you the phone is charged only to find it isn't. A lot of detail went into making the phone but not a lot went into making the battery last! You can record for over an hour but whats the point when the battery dies half way through it. Wouldn't recommend this phone to a friend its simply not worth it!

To sum up its a beautiful phone as long as the only thing you want to do with it is merely stare at it. I feel that Nokia have let themselves down with this one, its not practical, very unreliable and not worth the money. Save your money and buy a Sony Ericsson and buy a metal case.

If a manufacturer makes a faulty unit, it recalls the product and fixes it. So why haven't Nokia fixed the 8800 mobile phone?
<br/>Surely they have some idea that the battery isn't doing its job. Something has to be done.

Buy a dummy one for posing and get a real phone for every day use. If you need it for work. Forget it. You ll need a camper van full of batteries or a boss with free electric.

The thing about the Nokia 8800 mobile phone is it's like the outside of a FERRARI CAR, but with the inside of a Ford Fiesta.

The Nokia 8800 is simply the best looking phone ever made and as a recruitment consultant you can imagine that I use the phone a lot, however, I cannot express enough how shockingly bad this phone really is. If you are someone who has no friends or family who are likely to call, get one. If you expect to actually use the thing, don't. Do not even consider it. $1,000 US Dollars or £650 GB? It is not worth!!!

If your stylish and like the finer things in life - then the Nokia 8800 is for you! If you want to show off to your mates and turn heads then this is it.. Even with the few bad points I must say it is the best phone I have had so far... I have had it for about 9 months and it works perfectly without a single scratch. I haven't lost interest in it and I still am very much in love with it! :)

Overall, the Nokia 8800 is a great mobile phone. I am due an upgrade next month and NOTHING comes close. Everything else is either MASSIVE or too plastic looking. I hope someone comes up with something soon. The metal cover is hard as anything, and I have dropped it on many occasions and it's still in one piece. The glass is sapphire crystal, so minor knocks and scrapes don't touch it. The sliding action is to die for. Slide up to answer, and everyone still looks as the chrome dazzles them.
