Read reviews before I went and thought oh my god what have I done or should I even turn up but when I got there I was quiet surprised the van was a modern one. Was welcomed with a smile at reception. Needed one job doing in caravan but they turned up with in minutes of letting them know. What I saw off the site it was very clean. The only down side I saw was that in the club at night they always sell cheap tat and put it in your face so you gotta get it for kids, even funstar t shirts.

“We stayed in a standard caravan so we weren't...”

written by william200200 on 07/09/2008

We stayed in a standard caravan so we weren't expecting much. However, we had to wash up all the plates before using them as they weren't very clean, the toaster didn't work properly, you have to hold the handle down while it toasts! There was rubbish and odd socks under the beds and the table needed wiping. There were a few bulbs out in the caravan but worst of all, the toilet was disgusing. Why put a carpet in a toilet is beyond me, it was wet and stank of urine, i gipped every time i had to use it and ended up with the window wide open!
Apart from that, the caravan was ok!
We went to the club on the first night and i ended up spending £30.00 in the amusements as my 6 year old son preferred to play in there then watch the entertainment!
When we finally reached the club, the person on the stage announced all the children who wished to play a game should go down to the dancefloor. Then, when the dancefloor was full, she told all the children to go and get a pound coin or they won't be able to play!!!! What a cheap trick! We left - i was skint!
The next day we decided to go swimming, so i dragged my son through the amusements to the pool which was very disappointing as there was only one slide and a very small pool! My son likes jaccuzi's, which there is one but it does not allow under 18's in! We left after a very short time! The changing rooms were clean though but got busy very quickly.
Didn't use any other facilities, we spent the rest of our time in Blackpool! In hindsite, it would have been better for us to book into a hotel in Blackpool instead- Haven is not for us.

Resort is close to Blackpool but far removed from the litter and noise you can come across in the town centre. Caravan was spacious and clean and tidy. Basically we got what we paid for and had a great time, going again for 4 nights in October.

“We have just retuned from a three night stay at Marton...”

★★★★☆

written by steve comboy on 01/09/2008

We have just retuned from a three night stay at Marton Mere. We found the Caravan through ebay, (search under marton mere blackpool) and saved a packet on the Haven price. We had to pay for the club passes £22.00 for adults and £12.00 for children. Even after paying these prices we were quids in. The caravan was excellent, the facilities generally good, although the pool is not big enough to cope with the demand. Nightly entertainment was first class, only gripe was that the cabaret part didn't start until 9pm and after the interval re commenced at 11pm by which time everybody had run out of steam. Be aware, this is a huge site, be prepared to be seated in the clubhouse by 6.30pm for the kids show. Overall I would recommend this site, they are what they are, busy, expensive, but generally good fun. The kids loved it and that was the main thing. You can do these holidays on the cheap if you look hard enough. In fairness to Haven the site its self was very clean and nicely landscaped and amazingly quiet at night. We have been to better Havens (Black Rock Sands, Lakeland) but believe me we have been to far far worse!

“We arrived on Saturday and the caravan we were...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by loubylou79 on 01/09/2008

We arrived on Saturday and the caravan we were allocated was disgusting with bedding and pans missing. The reception office was closed so we could not see anyone about the unacceptable state of the accomodation until Sunday morning. It then took until mid morning Tuesday before we could see a manager who offered a replacement caravan. The replacement was also dirty.
All in all I would describe Haven's Marton Mere in Blackpool as a shambles. Dirty run down caravans, uninterested and incompetent staff members and an outdated and run down leisure complex which consists of a small swimming pool, an amusement arcade and a dark overcrowded and overpriced showbar.

After this experience I will never use them again.

Will never go on a haven holiday again. They did not make you welcome at this camp. My teenager daughter turned up at the teenage club and was not made to feel welcome at all by the funstar dealing with the group, did not even ask her name! Went to book some sessions in the pool and nothing was working but was still being advertised when we did book something to do it was cancelled last minute it was a joke!

★★★☆☆

written by minihaha on 16/08/2008

We stayed for a week from 26th July to 2nd Aug and did not book through haven themselves - we booked direct from the owner and the caravan was superb - home from home, sheer luxury. As we had not booked through haven we did not have the funpasses etc and so we were not able to use the site facilities such as pool, club, etc etc and nor did we feel we missed out by this. We had a lovely spot on the site, near the Mere and from what we saw the site was well maintained and the security was first class. The half hour bus service into Blackpool was a bit of a disappointment - the only day we did use this service left us waiting in Blackpool for over 2 hours waiting on bus to return to the camp and when the bus did eventually turn up it was too busy for us to get on. We had left our car at home and so were at the mercy of public transport!! so we just had to rely on the numbers 4 and 6 metro bus taking us to within a 10 or 15 minute walk of the site, this didn't bother us as it was a welcome break from driving, parking etc. Local shopping with a massive Tesco a 10 min walk away is good however there is very little outside the site in terms of entertainment or restaurants etc without venturing into Blackpool itself. So you are really torn between buying the funpasses (if you dont book with haven) or paying the taxi fare or petrol costs into Blackpool - and to be honest there is not much going on in Blackpool after 9pm between Mondays and Thursdays and I am not sure I would want to experience Blackpool at the weekend!! The site shop is very well equipped but very expensive and the staff in the shop were not very eager to please, in fact quite rude in some respects.
To sum up, we had a lovely time but we made our own entertainment, we chose purposefully not to book through Haven and we had a great time. But if any haven staff are reading these reviews the only comment I would make is remind your guests about pets on the site, we were surrounded by the hounds of the baskervilles on all sides and to think I was worried about rowdy teenagers or screaming kids - oh no - barking dogs win the prize for noise pollution on this site!

I certainly would NOT recommend Marton Mere, I will be going on a haven holiday again but not to this one! I will most certainly recommend going to the Haven at Cala Gran Fleetwood that was totally fantastic.
Customer care is needed at Marton Mere!

written by Angela Segrave on 10/08/2008

After reading other reviews glad to say we survived our week.
Did turn out far more expensive than hoped as we went off site most days as not much for youngsters to do. The holiday was for the children and they did enjoy it. (I don't think they cared that the caravan was a bit grubby).
Expect the usual problem of finding some where to sit in the show bar of an evening, Mind you with the entertainment on offer it was not surprising how many seats were available part way through the evening.

written by on 08/08/2008

We thought the Marton Mere Holiday village site was untidy, resembled Travellers Park upon reaching the touring pitches. Thought the toilet blocks were appalling, our welcome pack did not have any codes in the pack to enter them which left us in a very desperate and embarrassing situation! I think the staff on site need to do a customer care course! The takeaway food bar was foul and expensive in my opinion! The activities all look great on paper but do not operate in theory.
Overall Blackpool was very dirty with the lack of rubbish bins....
Takeaways in Blackpool catered for stag and hen parties who were too drunk to realise what they were eating! The only saving grace for our whole holiday experience at Marton Mere was the pleasure beach which was very clean, tidy and very enjoyable.

written by on 29/07/2008

Overall I thought the holiday was extremely poor value for money and would certainly think twice before I even look at Haven for another holiday. The response we got from the reception when we went to complain was "the grade of the caravan has nothing to do with the cleanliness" what utter rubbish, pay extra you expect better!
What they advertise as a prestige caravan on the web site is nothing like what we stayed in, don't know how they can get away with it! Poor complaints procedure, letter of complaint must be in writing (not an email) and must be received within 7 days after departure.

written by on 19/07/2008

I was looking forward to going here with my toddler as it said there were lots for them to do. They did mention that you had to pay for certain things but when I got there, there was hardly anything for a child to do. Yes, they had a kids club for 1 hour in the morning but nothing in the afternoon, then Adults Bingo at 6, what a stupid time especially when kids want some entertainment. The things you could do was an outdoor swing park and a splash area (only good when weather is good) and a pool. Everything else was to pay for. The arcade rides were very dear and the indoor play was soooo small, it was full with 5 kids. The place was filthy and the reception staff just ignored us when we walked in. We spent most of the time out of the holiday village in Blackpool. I have been to other holiday parks which are 200% better and everything is included in the price. I would not go back to a Haven holiday if you paid me.

I went to Marton Mere Holiday village this year in March. The whether was miserable. Good points, fun stars and caravan. Bad points weather the fire did not work in the caravan. I love Haven holidays and would recommend.

I camp/tour all over and have stayed at another Haven which to be honest was the same as above but I thought it was just bad luck so gave them another try, big mistake my husband who incidentally likes a drink has banned me from booking again with Haven or our camping/touring days are over. There are some great sites out there a lot cheaper and nicer go to them I would advise anyone wanting a nice holiday to steer clear of haven sites, they are horrendous

I cant believe what this person was saying about Marton Mere. We as a family go there 4 to 5 times a year and travel all the way up from Suffolk we always find the vans clean and comfortable and the kids and adult entertainment outstanding. As to the group who were there to get drunk well why didn't you complain? Or complain about the rest of the things that were wrong there should not be any all male and female parties booking vans if this was the case about the drunken people.

Personally I wouldn't go back to this site, due to the attitude of some of the staff, the site manager and all the funstars though could not fault were caring and really nice .
There was not much on for the kids despite it being the holidays and being off school, morning was tiger club which was ok, afternoon nothing much was on no shows then it was bingo till 8pm so kids got bored, 5.30pm - 6pm bingo sales, 6pm was adult bingo as cash then kids stuff started about 7 ish /7.30ish, but goodnight parade wasn't till 8.45pm which seemed a bit late as kids where sleepy by then 4yr old and 1yr old .
Caravan was basic but we did have problems with locking it, outside after it rained was like a mud bath and it was good 10/ 15 mins walk to the complex again not good with young children. Everything was expensive thought for what it was and it cost a fortune, tickets for bingo's bumper numbers every night although wanted to join in, when they tell kids to go and ask you for money if wanna win a prize you sort of get roped into it.

Booked a sun 9.50 holiday and did not upgrade. We were allocated a superior plus van with microwave and en suite main bedroom. We were in the St James area which was very quiet and only a short walk from the bus. The van was clean throughout. Wish the bus route reverted to not going via the zoo no one ever gets on or off the bus there. Having been to Marton Mere 10 times on a 9.50 holiday you cant fault them, have had basic vans though to luxury vans and only use the van as a base. The holiday is what you make it.

written by sueh on 14/04/2008

We were two families who had booked the best caravans you could at Marton Mere Holiday village. Both caravans were dirty and one stank of cigarette smoke. They were poorly equipped, one having no tin opener and no wine glasses. We have never been so cold in all our lives and kids slept in front of fire all night. We were left with no tv that worked and staff attitude was poor and they were not bothered. Light bulbs missing and the caravans were in a state of disrepair. The site was muddy with muddy tracks next to caravans. We were supposed to stay three nights but left after two. We paid a lot of money for this horrible experience. We have stayed on other caravan sites not Haven and these have been great. If you want to be in a clean, pleasant and respectable place, this is not it.

“We upgraded to a superior plus accommodation. ”

written by debrabaillie on 28/03/2008

We upgraded to a superior plus accommodation.
WHAT A LAUGH.
There was no curtains in bedroom, they came put some mouldy ones up on second night. The bedroom was that freezing you could not sleep in there. {no heating in bedrooms}
You could see your own breath in there. So we slept in living room with the fire on constant while we were there. The children slept with there socks and dressing gowns on. But my one year old son woke up every hour crying. {he was that cold}. He ended up sleeping with us in living room.
We had just 1 saucepan, no tin opener, no plug for kitchen sink, 1 light in the kitchen when there should have been 3.
It was just one thing after another.
We went to the sites chip shop to get some chips. They were stone cold and then they got no salt/vinegar. The lad that was serving just shrugged his shoulders and did not give us are money back. We complained at reception but they were not bothered. My 4yr old daughter and 1yr old son were so board.
We went into Blackpool a few times, that was the best bit.
We booked a mon-fri break with sun holidays, but upgraded caravan. It cost us £160.
We went home early Thurs morning. Enough is enough.
Haven have gone so down bank. Not goin to go with them anymore. I will stick with Butlins, they are the best for family holidays.
