“Just arrived back from a four night stay at Marton...”

★★★★☆

written by on 03/05/2010

Just arrived back from a four night stay at Marton Mere Holiday village (Haven). What can I say....well worth the money I paid!
I know that going round about school holiday times can be pricey (then again the entertainment put on is better)but I feel we got a bargain.
There were four adults in our party and one infant who's 3. My nephew thoroughly enjoyed himself and there was plenty to keep him entertained, we didnt do anything round the camp during the day as its so close to Blackpool ,we travelled there everyday to do something different. However the itenary we were given upon arrival was full of things to keep kids entertained if you did want to hang about during the day.
The caravan we had was very clean and had everything in it we needed.
The only flaw I have with the park itself is that it could be pretty pricey onsite.....namely the bar and bar food! The onsite shop was also pretty expensive but if you do your homework there's a 24 hour Asda and a Tesco just a few minutes up the road, where we bought most of our shopping and made food in the caravan. Also if you venture out into Blackpool (which I'm assuming is why your at Marton Mere) theres plenty of places to eat out.
The staff seemed friendly enough and the entertainment was alright (not everyones cup of tea but defo good for the kids).
I know sometimes Haven can be a bit hit and miss and there are a few people who are not happy AT ALL but Ive been on four separate occassions to several different parks and never once had a real issue. Your holiday is what you make of it and a caravan park is hardly a 5* all inclusive cruiseliner type holiday.
Might I also add that the staff are not unpaid babysitters so you shouldn't expect them to sort out any issues you have with other children at the park or theie parents....my advice is to keep a better eye on your kids!!
In my opinion if you want something cheap (shop around a week can make all the difference), cheerful and relatively close to local ammentities then Marton Mere is ideal

I dont think that this resort is safe for children it is surrounded by a council estate and there are alot of rough teenagers coming to the resort to use the amusement arcade.

I would never go back to this resort even if they paid me we had a really bad experience.

I complained to Haven Holidays and they treated me as if I was a worthless piece of scum - not a respectable paying guest - terrible company - terrible resort.

My husband and I went last September with our 2 young boys 6 and 2. We had a fantastic time. We went with the Sun holiday cost £90 wasn't expecting much but was nicely surprised, yes the caravan was basic but clean and was situated very close to the entertainment site the boys loved the shows especially the Bradley Bear show and lets face it if the kids are happy who are we to complain. The supermarket on site was well stocked and not badly priced. The only thing to put me off going again is Blackpool itself full of hen and stag groups and stinks of urine (not that the kids noticed), not much to do but if your doing for a long weekend it's perfect.

for some reason this site would only let me put 5 stars but is not deserving of any stars.

I Pressed the the stars by mistake, from my experience anyone giving martin mere haven holiday camo a good review must be an employee. (no stars)

The site is depressing, dirty, filthy toilets, unfriendly unmotivated staff, poor food and service and full of thugs. Security who are useless and could not give a toss who enters. we didnt feel safe -I would warn anyone to stay well away -we left a night early it was that bad.

The worst, grubbiest place i have ever stayed in my life.

Have just spent 2 nights at Marton Mere . Had to complain about the cleanliness of the toilets (they were filthy) . The reception staff didn't want to know and the male receptionist was particularly unhelpful. We ended up going across to a supermarket where everything was clean. We tried the Caravan Club which has good sized pitches and above all cleanliness. So I guess we all live and learn and we will never use Marton Mere again.

“Have just got back from a weeks stay at Marton Mere...”

★★★☆☆

written by mandywoowoo on 23/08/2009

Have just got back from a weeks stay at Marton Mere Blackpool. Firstly, the caravan was really really nice, but did book privately, this was due to other reviews stating that caravans were unclean. on the first night went for dinner in the on site restaurant, which was not good value for money, small portions were served. ie. kids meal sizes, food was not of good quality, and was expensive. there is a pub just up the road, which served lovely food, about 5 minutes from the site. the entertainment in the show bar was mostly very poor, the odd night was good, but, if you want a seat, you do have to get in really early, like 6.30, bearing in mind, after all the party dances, bingo, the odd kids game, the proper entertainment doesnt start until 9.30, by this time the kids were fed up, and wanted to go back to caravan. the drink prices were reasonable though. the onsite pool was very small, gets busy really quickly, you have to start queing a good half and hour before you actually want to swim.
the onsite supermarket is expensive, but this is the same with any holiday camp i suppose, they do cash in.

Paid for prestige caravan, it was tiny with stains on carpet . The Marton Mere evening entertainment was so bad i think i could have a singing career and i cant even sing but it hasnt stopped Havens staff. Also at the cafe bar i was served a warm bottle of white wine not a way to serve an expensive bottle of wine.

went to marton mere mon-friday ..and only good things i can think off were caravan and nature park at bottom of park
... the entertainment ..in showbar was cancelled due to complex getting flooded with heavy rain after thunderstorm on tuesday night ...funstars didnt really have a clue about alternative arrangements ...also at this camp not very interactive with the kids ... kids playpark not very big ...and rediculous having to pay extra for bouncy castle ..etc

MAKE SURE ANY VALUABLES ARE SECURED.
went to marton mere haven and on first night my mountain bike was stolen and security on site acted like it was a regular occurance and was not that helpful, i would also not recomment the food there, i ordered slow cooked bbq ribs and they where so tough i couldnt cut nevermind eat them, probably microwaved. However, my children did enjoy the swimming, arcade and showbar.

“Booked a basic caravan in marton mere holiday village,...”

★★☆☆☆

written by cheshire lass on 26/05/2009

Booked a basic caravan in marton mere holiday village, so did not expect too much . The caravan was pretty grubby , the carpet stained ,food under the pull out sofa and the kitchen floor was sticky. The quilts and pillows needed throwing out and everything in the caravan was the cheapest they could get away with.
The site was quite nice with lots to do for kids but a lot of it you had to pay extra for. There is a good bus service into Blackpool where you can shop or go to the many attractions , everything costs a fortune ie The Tower, Sea life world ,Madam Tousards It is really no wonder that people go abroad , it is SO expensive to holiday in this country . You really feel as if you are being ripped off ( £3 for a ten year old to shoot a pellet at a cardboard circle to win a tacky toy ) We were lucky to have decent weather or else it would have been unbearable .
.We ran out of gas half way through cooking our meal and it took several hours for someone to come and change the bottle!

Just returned from a weekend at Marton Mere Holiday Village, went on a Sun Holiday. The van allocated was very clean but basic with no microwave or central heating but in an ideal location to get the bus to Blackpool which runs every 30 minutes. We all had a great time and are going again in October. Had to have a sink unblocked whilst there but it was attended to within the hour

★★☆☆☆

written by betterthantwo on 20/02/2009

6 of us stayed in a 6 berth static caravan at this Haven 'holiday camp'. The accomodation was OK if a little tired and grubby - especially the carpet, though the beds and bedding were alright. On the morning of day 2 the ants had arrived - initially just the odd one or two but by the next day a trail of them headed to the kitchen area. We had booked for a week but left after 4 days, never to return. Some of the children's activities went down well with the 8 year old with us - especially the football related ones and some of the evening entertainment was quite jolly. On site food was definitely of the artery hardening variety so we catered for ourselves after day 1. The reception staff were always busy and we did not get a great deal of sympathy - they seem to let out private statics and ours was well past its prime. The new units that they tried to sell were fabulous. I shall not be returning to any Haven camps based upon this experience - we don't mind Hi-de-Hi but we like our accomodation clean.

Was on a Sun 9.50 holiday, did not bother upgrading for the time we actually spent in the van as we were out most of the day. Cooker, Microwave and all aplliances worked and were clean and tidy - we did wash all utensils ourselves again though. Bus was good, every 30 minutes from site into Blackpool and park was quite busy though not noisy

Had a good time in Blackpool and the Van was both clean and comfortable. No noise at night despite it being a very large site. Buses run regularly into Blackpool which also now has a much improved shopping precinct with Debenhams and H&M amongst many other shops.

Overall I wouldn't recommend Marton Mere to anyone and would never go back. I have been to a haven site before (Primrose Valley) which was fantastic, this one was not. 2 nights and one whole day was ample for our family and others on the site shared our opinion.
