“Well what can I say !!!Haven!!! whats going on?? Have...”

Well what can I say !!!Haven!!! whats going on?? Have you ever inspected these caravans??? We booked two caravans for two families, when we eventually opened the dodgy lock on the door, husband wanted to book straight into a hotel, but I said "it's only a few nights" WHAT WAS I THINKING !! Both caravans needed a good clean, luckily I had bought cleaning products with me ( packed after I'd read previous reviews the night before we got there!!) whilst cleaning the caravan the cleaner turned up with some extra glasses and i asked her why our friends caravan had a microwave and ours didnt to be told "oh thats probably a private owned caravan" yeh right !! I took my own sheets which im thankful for doing as the ones that were there, well let's just say it's a good job I'd took cleaning cloths or I would have had a great use for the sheets. My son point blank refused to use the quilt even with a cover on. Cooking on/in the disgusting hob, grill or oven was a challenge at best, nothing worked properly not to mention that there weren't any utensils that were of any use. The security men were arrogant and rude they even had their children asking to see passes!! Not happy that WE paid to live like this for four days...To sum up..Noah had better creature comforts on his Ark than you do in these caravans, if you like dirty and dated this is the place for you otherwise STEER CLEAR.

“We are fairly local to Blackpool, so for me it helps...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/09/2010

We are fairly local to Blackpool, so for me it helps that I know the area ( for instance where the local shops are and local takeaways etc)and we were not reliant on the on site facilities, which were on the whole, expensive.

We stopped in our touring caravan on one of their "premier" pitches after being told that our van (23 foot long) was too long for a standard pitch.
Our van only just fitted the "premier" pitch spot, and in my opinion compared with premium pitches at many other caravan sites they are very small and packed far too closely together.
The pitch facilities also lag behind other sites, in whilst they are served by water and electric they do not offer a TV hook up point.

We also made the mistake of pitching too close to the entertainment complex - again we are probably too used to other sites where the entertainment finishes about 11pm and generally the site is quiet - the disco went on till after 1am and then was followed by drunken revelers leaving the complex, shouting, singing, swearing and fighting.

Sadly this happens every night.

The swimming pool is clean, but small and the slide only open for limited times. There is a childrens park on site which is free. Otherwise everything else comes at a price. There is a spar shop on site but this is expensive again - far better to use the co-op in Mereside (about 3 minutes in a car).

The site is well situated for traveling into Blackpool center for the attractions, but dont pick this site thinking that it will be suitable for a young family as there are others which work out cheaper and are quieter.

Toilet / washing facilities can be quite a walk from your touring pitch, but are clean. They are on a coded door lock which rather usefully we were not issued with in our arrival pack, and so had to ask.

Oh and you have to vacate your pitch by 10am - if you want to stop later its £8!

Would we use this site again?
No. Its not our cup of tea its far too noisy and rowdy and compares badly with other Haven sites we have used. If however you like your music loud and late and dont mind people shouting and swearing into the small hours then give it a go.

we went to marton mere on the 23rd of august for 4 nights we had a prestiage caravan which by no means was excellent the kitchen floor was sticky the microwave kept overheating the dvd player did not work the bedroom was very small and the linen was not that clean.the showbar was far too small for the complax you had to be in the show bar by 6pm to get a seat and there was far too many gaps between the acts that were on.the security on site was not excellent twice i got in the amusement arcade no security was on the door anyone could have walked in.also found a lot of mould in the shower and bedroom.for the money we paid we expected a lot more.

“just returned back from martin mere site, paid £509...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/08/2010

just returned back from martin mere site, paid £509 for a so called 'prestige' caravan and apparently we had ther new 2010 version, it was awful. the caravan had the smallest postage stamp sized tv (which was supposed to have been a flat screen widescreen tv) the fake wooden floor effect in the caravan bubbled up when the shower was on, there are no towels or toilet rolls. you can hear every conversation from the surrounding caravans and the pull out bed was not very steady.

the spar was ridiculously expensive

the food and drink was very expensive and all our stomachs have not been right. the food was also undercooked and the breakfast and curries ran out quick so not much choice.

the showbar was uncomfortably hot and even the soft drinks were expensive so became very dehydrated very quickly and extremely difficult to find a seat.

there was lots of rows/fighting happening on site

overall i would never take my children there ever again even if they payed me to!

“GREAT HOLIDAY 2010! ”

★★★★★

written by on 19/08/2010

GREAT HOLIDAY 2010!
We returned on Friday from a weeks stay at Marton Mere.
The Caravan was Excellent and had been well cleaned and we had nothing out of place. The only problem we had was we with the fridge and the gas on the first night and they we're good straight out to mend it within 10 minutes.
The Entainment and slot machines were good a few of the slot machines didn't work but that wasn't really a problem. The swimming pool was very basic with one slide and our local pool is bigger that was the only thing that let the park down. Main Entertainment was good a part from Havens got talent when only about 5 people entered.

“1st holiday in 3 years, trawled through online sites...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sharon1974 on 18/08/2010

1st holiday in 3 years, trawled through online sites for hours and thought this looked like a good choice, even though there were some bad reviews.
Check-in was very odd to begin with, once we had keys we entered what should have been a 4-6 berth SUPERIOR caravan.
As soon as I opened the door the 1st thing I noticed was how dirty the floor was and a bag with all the clean bed linen in. The caravan didn't even look like a Standard caravan that they advertise on the Haven website. The bedding from the previous people was still on the beds, cooker had food all over it, bin was full and excretement stains down the toilet. This obviously hadn't been touched.
My husband called reception who sent 3 people out, not one of them even looked inside caravan. The 1st thing they said was that they didn't think it was our van as it was not down on their " cleaning matrix". The lady made a call but we heard her saying " where do i put this family whilst we clean it".
My husband not happy said no way are we staying here and we want a refund. If the caravan had looked like a Superior that we booked we may well have let them do it. But cracks in the floor is not good for kids, I wouldn't even use it as a dog kennel.
In reception there was another family complaining of mold on the curtains. The lady at reception very hostile which aggravated my husband more. Refund would take 7-10 days so couldn't even book another holiday or even stay in Blackpool as had no money.
Felt bad for my 2 kids but definately would not go back here and has put me off Haven which used to be really good. What they advertise is not what you get, may be better going privately.

booked prestige caravan for long weekend and paid extra for activity passes for water activities. Disappointed with caravan not enough bedding for 8 people and had to chase security to deliver some at 11pm even though informed office at 3.30, other things wrong like broken grill pan which they id not fix whilst we were there, gas ran out and engineer did not reset boiler so had to wait another 2 hours for hot water for shower in morning. The facilities are not big enough for the size of caravan park, it was impossible to set seat in club but the caberet did not start till 10.30 anyway, too much money to b made playing bingo. 1 slide in pool, play area had about 5 items on it being used by unruly teenagers, staff smoking in doorways that you had to walk through. Overall the standard of this park has plummeted since i was last there and i definatly will not go again. Dog in nearby caraven allowed to roam and poo evrywhere but no one bothered

just returned home from marton mere. hired a private static caravan which had no cooking utensils in. the toilet smelt of urine which was obviously on the carpet. marton mere was a rip off with the passes which cost me £90.00 for 2 adults and 2 children. the staff at reception were rude. we washed our clothes in the laundrette and hanged them out on the clothes rack outside the caravan, staff who lawn mower the grass actualy knocked some washing to the ground and actualy run over the washing which left the washing in a bit of a state, when we went down reception to complain they basicaly snubbed at us. i would not be going there again. although you pay a lot of money for the passes you still have to pay for the crazy golf what a total rip off.

written by karenmtaylor on 13/08/2010

We were allocated a very well maintained caravan, in a quiet corner of the park. Plenty of space for little ones to roam safely. A bit to far from centre for little legs as its a large park. Pool small and basic, and you have to get a band at the beginning of session to guarantee a swim time. Clean and well supervised though. Kids clubs were good. Great location to access Blackpools many attractions. Food on site wasnt great, but a 2 min drive brought us to Pizza hut McDonalds, Subway and many more, all on one site. Tescos and Asda both within 5 mins drive so easy to do a good shop without expense of onsite shop. If you have little ones there is a huge playcentre next door to zoo a few mins away. 3 pounds for 90 mins, comfy sofas reasonable snacks etc. Great for a rainy afternoon, or to round off a visit to the zoo. All in all it was a great location, nice caravan but onsite entertainment and facilities weren't as great as the brochure makes out.

Just back from a 1wk stay. Have to say, we booked the presitige caravan and was very happy with it. Very clean, everything i needed. But just as well as the entertaiment was awful so spent the evenings in the caravan. The entertaiment complex was very hot, dingy, and overcrowded. We went at 7pm and couldnt get a seat anywhere and there was a horrible stale smell during the day so the kids didnt go during the day.
The swimming pool was very overcrowded and very 'plain'. No whirlpools, rapids. There was a slide but you have to be a strong swimmer to use it. Park wise, very small and limited so no use really to my 2yr old. Any extra activites like trampoline was at an extra cost...£4 for 10 mins. Rip off really.
Thank goodness for it being so close to Blackpool town centre as we spent more time off site than on site. Def would not recommend this park.

written by maria0409 on 18/06/2010

My husband, 16 year old daughter, 13 year old son, 3 year old daughter, myself and my mother have just spent a week, at this park, staying in 2 ajoining "superior" caravans, which were stituated in a central location, clean and tidy, if a little bit old and worse for wear, with basic contents, but no microwave or toaster. The check in procedure was unusal compared to any other parks I have stayed in, but was quick. The "play park" was not ideal for my 3 year old, and I though there was not much for her to do, but our weather was very nice, so we spent most days at the splashzone. The service in the cafe bar was bad, waiting 35 minutes for a couple of burgers to arrive, and trying to get a drink at the bar was hit or miss, as they have no system of serving customers!!The staff, however were very nice and friendly. The local taxi company were great, very pleasant and helpful. We spent a great day out at Blackpool Zoo, great for kids. Overall, we had a really good holiday, and would stay at this park again, but in a higher grade of caravan.

written by on 06/06/2010

Just been away to martin mere blackpool in begin june, stayed in the touring field with our caravan(total dissapointment). The toilets are regularly smashed up especially weekends, So we were told and you constantly feel you need to look over your shoulder, will the caravan be stolen or the bikes). There are a lot of vans and hobby caravans, not usually alowed at caravan sites. The pitches are so cramped your emmediate neighbour is right on top of you, There is enough room for a caravan and your car, forget putting up the awning or getting out the sun lounger. The park itself is great very clean, the new water slide is fantastic.

Over all...I know I did not rate it well with my stars it wasnt actually that bad. The caravan was fine and I booked a basic one. The spar shop on site was very reasonably priced. I didnt buy any of their food I just packed a few bits in my bag that I had bought because I didnt want to pay their prices, the staff were very happy helpful, the soft drinks were over priced but the ale was ok..i ended up buying bottles of coke from the shop as they were cheaper, there was alot of arcades and everything was £1 a go on site which i didnt want my daughter playing with...we just killed time by swimming, relaxing and eating and blackpool was just a short trip on the bus. all in all it wasnt bad...it was a cheap holiday alls i can say to people who are going is..buy your own fruit shoots for the kids and your own soft drinks for your shorts....take a packed lunch out with you in the day (tescos is half a mile away of you need to shop), when you arrive at your acc check all appliances the grill on the oven didnt work and they never bothered repairing it when i reported it. I got what I paid for and wouldnt rule it out for future breaks away.

“I would be very wary of the people giving this resort...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/05/2010

I would be very wary of the people giving this resort 5 stars - me thinks they are company employees ha ha - makes me laugh how people say that they read the terrible reviews but went anyway and are just taking the time to reassure us all that the place is fantastic - what committed customers you have - read the REAL REVIEWS - this place is a dump and is dangerous - you have been warned by a real visitor.

Update: 8th January 2011 First off I would not give this resort any stars - you must read my experience of this resort for your families safety before making a decision to visit this place - I have noticed other reviews that talk of violence at this resort.

we visited this park on one off the sun deals - I was playing with my young son in the indoor amusement arcade of the resort when I felt a sudden impact to my right hand checkbone and instant pain. Such was the force of the impact it would have undoubtedly taken out my eye or seriously injured my son if it had been a few inches higher.

I was really shocked and confused to what had just happened and turned to my right quickly as it was my right cheekbone but there was nobody there and there was no object on the floor which was weird.

I then grabbed the security guy in my shocked state and noticed that there was another parent in distress saying that something had hit his daughter.

My wife and daughter came out of the disco area where they had been painting to see me running around like a madman in a state of shock.

At this point I had not seen the injury so did not know what had happened but I told the security staff that it felt like the sudden impact of something like a pool ball being thrown, but there was no pool ball on the floor.

Revealingly, I had to insist that the CCTV be looked at and that police and an ambulance be called as the staff seemed indifferant to the events that had taken place.

When I looked at the images on the CCTV with police nobody could be seen throwing anything - all that could be seen was myself clutching my face in pain.

I spoke with police outside and was given the impression that they were called out regulary to this resort and that it might be in my best interests to leave - which we did straight away.

When I looked at my injury in my caravan to see a lump on my face the size of a golf ball with a small square broken open wound the size of a pellet from a pellet gun and the same shape and this seemed to tie in with the fact that nobody was seen or that an object was found which I communicated to police the following day.

This incident but what annoyed me the most is what we felt was the total lack of concern showed to us by haven holidays, they only seemed interested in distancing themselves from any responsibility.

In this regard we were very dissapointed at the security which was very lapse and friend who visited us were not asked for any passes when they entered the entertainment area.

The place did not feel safe and we had reservations from the moment we arrived, there appeared to be alot of rough youths in the amusement arcade
and the resort is surrounded by a council estate.

Also there were gipsy rides with rough gipsies swearing and playing loud music that seemed totally inappropriate for a family resort.

I don't know if this resort has decided to have an open policy to generate income and have therefore allowed other people onto the resort who are not staying at the resort, but they can't have it both ways it is either a family resort with safety in place or it is not safe for kids.

Our image of Haven is now of a backward thinking company that is targeting the lower elements of society and we will never use them again as long as we live.

Not only this but haven did not apolgise or refund the days that we missed due to use leaving with bad injuries and this must give you an idea of what they are now about.

“Have just returned from a weekend at Marton Mere....”

★★★★☆

written by on 11/05/2010

Have just returned from a weekend at Marton Mere. Having now been there many times over the last 6/7 years it still amazes me that Haven cannot organise the check in process better. The staff at door were supposed to allocate a card with a number on it though were to busy chatting amongst themselves when we arrived. The positives, the Van was spotless and equipped with an excellent flat screen tv and the area we were in was very peaceful. A bus runs in to Blackpool via zoo every 30 minutes. Blackpool itself is being cleaned up along the seafront and some of the empty shops now have new tennants. All in all an excellent holiday- going again in September
