“Had a fab time”

★★★★☆

written by Jaxt296 on 27/04/2014

Just returned from a 4 night break at Haggerston Castle. Myself and son and a great time. The site offered all that we needed. We were very pleased to be upgraded on our arrival. The caravan was very clean and warm (however lacked instructions to work central heating). The staff were excellent, and very helpful. Assistant leisure manager gave some very good service. My son aged 8 enjoyed the high ropes and aqua jets, and found them good value for money. We also had a massage in the spa, and Gemma gave me some pain but was very good. My son had his first massage too, and loved it, some very lovely people in the spa. The mash served some good food and drink, however the heating needed to be turned up, we were freezing, wear a jumper. The evening entertainment is not something that I enjoy, but many others did. The site has a 9 hole golf course which could do with some money and tlc spent on it, however could not fault the staff. Haggerston castle is on the A1 and you really need a car to get anywhere. Places I recommend: Holy island, Alnwick gardens and Castle a must. We did go to the Tree top restaurant, and was a magical experience, however very disappointed with the food. A vey enjoyable holiday, thankyou Haven

written by flozypots on 28/03/2014

l have just come back from a mid week break at haven haggeston castle what a lovely place, the caravan was excellent clean and spotless we were in a 2 bedroom caravan, we took are little dog so having wooden effect flooring was perfect, the caravan was lovely and cosy, on our first morning the gas ran out when we got up at 6 am we rang the phone number for out of hours to report it we were expecting to be told we would have to wait until 9 am but was told he would be round and change it sortly and he was there with in 15 minutes, and had a new one on, the park was spotless and every thing was well sign posted all the staff was so friendly and welcoming. There is plenty of lovely places to visit round about. The site was quiet as we hard no noise a part from the birds l would definatly go back again and would book with haven again as l can not falt their caravans and servies the shop was lovely and sold every thing you want while you are away.

“Not good at all!”

★★☆☆☆

written by johnsod2 on 01/09/2013

Although caravan was clean and in quiet location it was quite a walk to the centre. There was no brush or pan to sweep the floor from grass carried in after lawns had been mowed. The quilt on the double bed was too small so when one person turned over the other froze to death! Not sorted by staff despite complaints. Passes and prices for "extra" events very expensive as was the food. The best bits of the site were the horse riding and "creative design" people - neither of whom are connected to Haven. Booked sessions for shooting and archery for three people at a cost of £8 per session only to be told that because I had bought an alcoholic drink and taken a couple of sips I couldn't do either. The events guide needs to ensure it stipulates that people will not be able to take part if they have had a drink. Some staff were very sulky and not at all friendly. Entertainment was poor with visibility in the main lounge from the two balcony layers almost impossible. The Cinderella panto was ridiculous with no possibility of interaction from the kids as it was almost all sung! The duet between Buttons and Cinders was basically a sales pitch to buy a caravan!!! Despite having been to haggerston 25 and 10 years ago we will NOT be going again. Best bits were all off park!!

“Expensive short clubs”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 13/08/2013

Staff running the clubs are great! The fair rides staff couldn't care less. The clubs were on average £8 for 15-20 min half of that time was spent preparing. The food prices are shocking for very small portions. The bins outside the caravans are overflowing and there is rubbish all over. Next year it's all inclusive abroad for us.

“Rip off haven”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/06/2013

Everything very expensive, entertainment rubbish for adults. Nearly £30 each for a club pass and then charged nearly £4 for a pint of beer, forced to buy beer food etc and sit in caravan, activities very expensive at £8 for each item, on the plus side nice setting for caravan but spoilt by Haven trying to take your money as quick as possible. Why not charge a reasonable price so everyone can use facilities and enjoy a good night out, sure you will take more at the bar.

“Haven Haggerston Castle.......Never again!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/10/2012

After touring Scotland for a week in our motorhome we booked two nights at Haggerston Castle touring park as a stopover before returning home. As the weather had not been good we did expect the ground to be very wet but thought as this was a well known large site there shouldn't be too much to worry about. However, when arriving at our pitch we found the area to be ankle deep in mud. The hard standing was only just wide enough to fit the vehicle so you had to step into the mud to get in and out. I asked the staff for assistance and was told to look for a pallet around the site!! My husband hunted around and found one to place at the door. It would help if there had been gravel around the pitch. When leaving the motorhome later we noticed dog mess around the area (next to children's play area). The toilets/showers were just about usable but not at all clean by any standards. The handbasins were full of dirty water.(Must have been blocked but didn't put my hand in to check!!) Three toilets had broken locks. The whole block looked liked it hadn't been cleaned all day when I went to them at 5pm. Luckily we had onboard facilities so at least we had a choice whether to use them or not.On the first night we went to the restaurant in the entertainment complex and were so disappointed with the quality of the food we asked to make a complaint to a manager. We were told managers do not speak with customers and to fill in a feedback form which we did.We didn't go back the second night and decided to buy fish and chips from the onsite vendor. This was very nice even though a bit overpriced. Altogether we had a very disappointing experience at Haggerston Castle. This could be a beautiful site if a little more effort was made by the management. After all, it is an All Year Round site and Scotland is renowned for wet weather.

“Hagerston Castle sept 2012 Middle age couple had great...”

★★★★★

written by mrmrsjones57 on 30/09/2012

Booked on line 2 bed caravan we were pleasantly suprised when we arrived . It was a new 3 bed with on suite on the Turnberry area, it was beautiful although quite a distance if you had to walk to the facilities . The park is set out as seperate areas which we quite liked . Although when we had a stroll round the park we became aware one area didnt have such a nice view. Some of the caravans looked out over at something to do with the sewerage workings on the site which really ought to be hidden with a higher fence to hide it , We would have been disapointed if we were looking out over that .For those who have children the park and entertainment was good although the draught beer/larger wasnt very good in the family club house and we noticed quite a lot of people leaving drink in thier glasses .However it was much better in the Mash & Barrel. The pool looked a bit small considering the size of the holiday park though , Couldn't fault the staff they were really helpful and friendly.Overall we had a great time and didnt want to go home , wish we could have stayed longer . Would certainly like to go again .

“Haggerston Castle Holiday Park”

★★★★★

written by on 31/08/2012

I recently returned from Haggerston Castle. I stayed for 5 days with my friend and her family, we had an amazing time! We arrived on Monday 27th and returned on Friday 31st. After readin lots of negative reviews I was slightly worried about going, but all was fine. The caravan was spotless ( although it was private and not owned by Haven) the amusments are amazing though a little overpriced, the horse ride was amazing although pretty expensive at £15 for a 20 minute ride. I would advise anyone going to take a fair amount of money as it will be required. There are also some things you can do for free such as swim. The food in the mash&barrel is great, also Burger King and Alanda's fish and chips were very good too. The club is very good, but i would advise you to come either very late or very early to skip all the hustle and bustle of small children at the bar. I would 100% recommend Haggerston to anyone. There's plenty to do of you can afford to spend a fair amount of money. You can hire bikes and trams, my friend's young cousin also enjoyed the lakes! Amazig and I wish I could have stayed for longer!!

“ok holiday this time”

★★★☆☆

written by on 27/08/2012

just back from a weekend at haggerston, after previously complaining we got a lovely caravan in a lovely site, it was clean although daughter did find a small deposit of dog poo under cushion in sitting room, the staff are mainly lovely and any complaints i had were handled staightaway. i love this site has a lovely country feel and have been coming here for 10 years now, obviously with being a dog owner we have had some horrible caravans, and i mean horrible but have now found the best thing to do is complain.overall site is lovely and food ok.

“Touring Caravan Site”

★★★☆☆

written by llrides on 13/07/2012

We where wanting somewhere to take our grandchildren ages 5 and 7 for a few days and decided to try a Haven site, Haggeston was available for a 3 night break so we book it, on arrival we thought what have we done people in front of us at reception where asking for wooden pallets as their awnings and pitches where totally flooded, we had booked a super pitch which on inspection did have some water but as we did not intend to put up an awning we decided to stay, the weather has been atrocious and the park could not be blamed for the muddy conditions although the pitches are dated and in need of attention, as for the toilet blocks they where usable but poorly cleaned, cleaners need a supervisor as they are not doing the job thoroughly, we have our own on board facilities so we have a choice, Haven do provide entertainment for children but to get to it you must go through a large money hungry amusement arcade, no mater what entertainment is on there are always items being forced on parents and kids at expensive prices, as for food we had our own and did not use the over priced food outlets available, Haggeston is not a bad location we had a trip to Alnwick and another to the shops and supermarkets in Berwick upon tweed, would I recommend this park? we will not be returning but as the site in its poor ground conditions was 95% full clearly people do like it.

“floods”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 08/07/2012

as a tourist with a caravan and awning , Ihave never encounted floods like we got in the fields like we did here . we went 25 june 2012 and stayed for 5 nights . on the thursday we went to bambrough and came back to the caravan approx 4.10 pm and evrything was under water , it was more like a boating lake than a tourers field , we got no assistance from any of the staff , they were clueless of what to do in such a situation . all they suggested was to pack up and go home bearing in mind the A 1 was closed in both directions . my son and family had to cut short their holiday as all the bedding was drenched and clothing was soggy wet . it was a very disastrous ending to their hols . so if you go caravanning as a tourer make sure you dont go to the bottem end of the field because if it rains you will get flooded out . apparently it happened 3 years ago and they still havent resolved the problem . the toilet am nd shower blocks only get cleaned once a day so i was glad it wasnt school holidays when we went as they would have been a right mess .

“5* what a joke ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by StacyT on 15/09/2011

OMG i have just sat for 30 minutes writing about my experience at Haggerston Castle in August this Year and my computer jumped and I lost it ARRRGGGGHHHHH So to simplify things I was extremely disappointed - loved going as a child and when my brother suggested we go we agreed. The biggest waste of £500 ever!! Mon-Fri check in/out times shocking for the length of time there and the money spent! Caravan was filthy, carpets, seats, floors, dishes. Toilet seat broken off, mattresses fit for the bin could feel every spring. There was no hoover, mop bucket, nothing!! They left 1 of the single beds unmade showing the disgusting mattress (who are they to assume how 4 adults and 1 child is going to sleep). They had made the table up with the dirty dishes and cutlery obviously trying to make it look "nice", we had to wash everything before use.... Complex totally run down, teenagers stand outside smoking, sewage smell going up path at the side, laundrette - bins over flowing cats and flies everywhere, so called ironing boards basically just a bit wood hanging off the wall. Went for fish pedicures, staff totally clueless, told my pregnant sister in law she couldn't get it done, but she made the booking and wasn't told at the time, plus load of nonsense I had it done when pregnant. Staff disappeared leaving my partner to see to himself after his fish pedicure, there was no clean towels for us, the looked about and took dirty towels off the top of a unit!! Nothing professional about this salon. So would defo not recommend, was the biggest waste of money, a huge disappointment as to how I remember it. The sign at the entrance 5* holiday resort needs to come down - more like -5

“Not Happy”

★★★☆☆

written by on 04/09/2011

Having a dog means we can only ever have standard or standard plus caravan which has resulted in us getting very poor, dirty, scruffy caravans therefore we decided to book privately without going through Haven. Our Caravan last year was lovely & had all the gadgets,m dvd, iron etc however the caravan we booked this year was dirty, no iron or ironing board, the oven went off on the second night there & the gas had to be turned off to the oven & grill so we had only a hob for the rest of a weeks stay! The outside light didn't work, the decking & veranda were unsafe & the caravan had a foisty, nasty smell....there were several more problems which have all gone in an email to the owner. Although this is actually not Haven renting it I still think they should have been more helpful considering they charge the owners for keeping the caravan on the site...they told us they only hold the keys & could do nothing to assist us without speaking to the owners. This ment several phone calls by us to the owner to complain about the various problems. I would say though that the Funpasses are very over priced & unfairly priced.....£39.50 Adult £22.25 Child (under 13 being a child) therefore it cost £140.75 for my family of 2 Adults a 15 yr old & an 11 yr old !!! As we have a dog we do not like to leave him too often so in a 7 night stay we may go out 2 nights in total, we don't use the swimming pool & because we trake the dog most places we do not go into the complex for the children to do the activities...so basically for 2 nights out (spending money on overpriced drinks)& to be allowed in to spend money in the arcade it cost us over £140 !!!!! Not good value at all & I think they should do a daily pass or something to accomadated people who may not want to be in the complex all day every day!!! This is a Haven thing & I think it should be adressed. I would not recommend any Haven park as value for money, it can be as or more expensive than a sunshine holiday abroad...

“Haven spoil this site.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/08/2011

We were offered the caravan free for up to 4 weeks from a friend of ours. We thought great as i am heavily pregnant and couldnt fly,so at least we would spend some time away as a family.when we arrived there we had all our passes just to pick up from the owners reception which i was delighted at when i saw the prices to buy them for 1 week. £39 for an adult and £20 for a child. Which i now realise is an absolute rip off. the only thing the pass does is get you into the entertainment area which you then have to spend your own money in to do anything.Entertainment is rubbish! Drinks very exspensive! Food expensive! Staff ignorant! Hated every minute i spent in the entertainment area and after the first week i never stepped foot in the place again.Only a handfull of the activities are free most have a cost to them, which you have to buy in sessions and a minimum buy is 6 sessions at a cost of £36.This worked out very exspensive as wehave 3 children and one of the children also had a friend with them and to be honest after they had done certain activities some of which only lasted half an hour the children were less than impressed. I would never ever go on another Haven holiday again! For Haven its all about seeing how much money the can get out of you for nothing in return. Beautiful site and surrounding area spoilt by GREED of a big firm called HAVEN!
