★★★★★

written by on 28/02/2011

Following the initial telephone interview, I had a fantastic assessment day - very welcoming, settling and full of tips. Although it was a long day it was worth it firstly, the learning curve it has. If you've never experienced assessment centres and find it hard to get through to interviews this is a great experience, and also confidence boosting. equally, if you are looking for graduate roles this is a great shortcut - with a broad network of clients in varying indsutries Pareto is fantastic for putting your time to great use if you succeed. but even if you don't you go away learning so much that I'm sure you will go to your next interview much more prepared and armed with tools and tips gained from the assessment day with Pareto.
Having been successful, i am currently in my first week of Pareto "graduation" and i already have 3 interviews lined up, with thriving companies and attractive positions and salaries (some even pay your expense to go to the interviews so all the more to gain!).

I recommend calling Pareto Law and definately going to the assessment centre day...well worth it. The Pareto recruiters are a fantastic, motivating team and are very much on your side for finding a graduate sales role. Thank you team!

“My experience of PL was great. In my personnel...”

★★★★★

written by on 21/02/2011

My experience of PL was great. In my personnel experience I was contacted by PL from a job they advertised on a website. After an initial phone interview with one of the staff I was invited to an assessment day. The experience I had with the Pareto staff was completely different to those outlined below. In the week leading up to my assessment day I was contacted a few times but on all occasions the consultant was completely friendly and most of the times we had a good 5/10 minute chat before getting down to business. The consultant even gave me some useful tips that proved valuable on the day.
The day itself was actually my first assessment day. I attended mine in Wilmslow and the facilities were top notch. We were shown into a common room and given free tea and Coffey or soft drinks. When everyone had signed in we were split in to groups and given a brief introduction to the business and then we had to introduce ourselves.
In our groups we were then assigned different activities. Admittedly, some members of the group did shout a lot and some of the members of my team saw it as an opportunity to outdo people. But from my memory none of these people got through, obviously people aren't watched the like hawks so I'm not saying this is true of all cases. While there was confusion and a lack of clear instructions I believe this gave me a great opportunity to show my communication skills and negotiating abilities. After all how you act under pressure is a key skill.
After this we then had our own 3 minute presentations which provided a great chance to shine individually.
At the conclusion of the day we were split into groups and I was informed that I'd gotten through the process and would be contacted in a couple of days with opportunities.
As PL suggested I was called from numerous people over the next couple of weeks and sent on numerous job opportunities. Some smaller business and one blue chip. What I found was that as long as I was willing and open to opportunities PL suggested they were accepting of my feedback from the interviews if I told them it didn't feel right for me.
In conclusion I found a job within 3 weeks of completing my assessment day and I'm currently sat at my desk for that job as I write this. I'm just coming up to being here for 8 months now and have started getting out on the road, just as I was told I would. The on-going training that comes as being part of the PL process is invaluable not only for sales training but networking with like minded individuals who have come from the same place you have.
In conclusion I found the whole process excellent. Applying for job during the final term of university was daunting. After getting through the PL assessment day I had the comfort that they would go out and find me a job and I could concentrate on getting my degree.
I can't say that the other reviews are lies, all I can say is that in my personnel experience it was everything I expected and was promised. Hence I have recommended it to 2 of my friends who have both now come out the other end with jobs.

“To be perfectly frank I really found Pareto to be hard...”

★★★★★

written by BigWint on 17/02/2011

To be perfectly frank I really found Pareto to be hard working, professional, and always had the graduates in mind. I would, and have recommended these guys to my friends. Only because I had such a positive experience from the word go!

My initial experience of these guys came in the form of a telephone call. Their first contact was concise, which is to say that they found out what my requirements were and also explained to me what they did and how they operate. They called at a time that was good for me, which was very helpful, because I was at a different job at the time and could only really talk outside of office hours. They were very accommodating, and the interview was very smooth.

Once I had passed through the telephone phase I attended an evaluation day. I must admit I was impressed by how well it was conducted and how professional the staff were. To begin with I was very nervous, but it was good to be in an environment surrounded by people in the same boat as I was. Looking back it was very clever how they used different techniques to draw out the different skills and attributes of the different candidates. I didn't realise it at the time, however, when my contact gave me my feedback it was really helpful to hear how I could improve my technique and become more effective in future interviews (with these guys or not). Like I said at the beginning, Pareto have the grads in mind. Once I passed the evaluation they asked me what sort of sector I would like to aim for, and where in the country I would like to be based. I was very selective in what I wanted, however they approached my needs in a professional and consultative manor, and helped me find what I wanted. I found it really helpful to have a dedicated account manager, because I always had someone to turn to for advice and feedback. It ensured that I developed more effectively

After a couple of interviews I found a job that was a good fit for me and my company, and have been loving it ever since. What I also found helpful was the training as provided by Pareto. Whilst sometimes I thought I could do without it - it was really good to be in a room of similar minded people where you can bounce sales ideas and strategies around, and at the end of it all you can really learn a lot.

Since being at my company I have recommend these guys to a few of my friends, they have also had really positive results, just like I have, and tbh I would recommend them to anyone

Beermonster1983's Response to BigWint's Review

Written on: 20/02/2011

It took me about five seconds to realise this has obviously been written by a Pareto employee - companies often employ this dated and rather tiresome tactic when faced with criticism on web forums. The dead giveaway here is the review being peppered with salesy management-speak - of particular note is the use of the phrase "these guys" no less than four times.

written by on 16/02/2011

Im glad i havent recommended the Pareto applications to any of my graduate friends. The day I had today was a total waste! They ask you to be promt at 12:45pm and your still waiting outside in the cold at 1pm, the royal clients and pareto staff arrive in the room one hour late. One of the Pareto staff was totally not nice to a graduate, firstly the assessment hadn't even started and he came in sat down looking around and a graduate asked if he could get a drink of water instead of allowing him he told him to sit down we're going to start the session soon, i mean none of the

royalties actually came into the room to start bar
king and he was acting promt and precise when he himself failed professionally, bad puncuality etc. The clients were mostly clueless as to who to take on for presentations those that didnt like certain graduates they havent even talked to or assessed propery were intreviewd by a pareto member! is this a joke i mean we were told on the phone we will be presenting infront of clients - please do not allow them to mislead you.

“I went for a day with them back in December last year...”

★★★★★

written by on 12/02/2011

I went for a day with them back in December last year it was a Ranstad recruitment day at their London office in Chiswick they are owned by them and was a really big day. I was one of the successful ones on the day but got placed by another company in London where I do internal sales (telesales) and love it however it is hard. I am currently on the phones with this role but it is giving loads of experience and a foot in the door. There seems to be a good career path and bonus which is good here there are around 20 previously employed graduates that have come through the process including the sales director who must be on mega bucks. The salary could be better but with my bonus which I start to earn this month it should be good.

The day was very busy around 45 people were there, it could have been more though. I have been to two other assessment days both were a lot smaller and seemed more organisated. Just seemed too many for one day so how they expected to get a full analysis of every person is beyond me. Saying that it is the results that speak at the end of the day and both interviews I eventually went to, and got two offers, were great companies compared to the the two I went with the other companies. They were shocking and kept trying to get me to work in a call centre graduate scheme for peanuts.

Regarding the recruitment process I had no issues with the process really. They were always professional with me all the way through and kept me in the loop with everything. The recruitment consultant there was a little eager at times and seemed desperate to get me to the Ranstad day as it was for their 2011 graduate scheme. I did want to got to the week after but he persuaded me to go to that week which was good.

If the proof is in the pudding then I they were good as I am loving my job after spending 6 months looking.

“Pareto Law Assessment days. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/01/2011

Pareto Law Assessment days.

If i was allowed to give a negative score i would.

The biggest joke of a day i have ever encountered. If you are reading this and are considering going to one of their assessment days DONT! Dont waste your time, money effort and dignity.

I have a degree and have 6 years successful face to face, B2B and B2C sales experience in a very competitive market. (enough experience you would have thought to gain at least an interview.) I was even told that on the day i had scored the highest overall mark for the day they had seen for a long time, even though i didnt participate in the other 'kids' shouting matches and arguing.

The team that lead the day seemed to have an average age of 22. All the girls working there were stunning but didnt seem to know what they were talking about and all the lads working there were slimy, smarmy jerks over-promising on what would happen after the day who were amused all day by the performing monkeys who showed up to participate.
After three fairly pointless exercises that could have been dealt with in an hour but took 4, there was a presentation/interview. This was the only chance to make a genuine impression on potential employers. Although i have a very strong doubt that these were people from any kind of employing company.
After this we were called into 3 groups, my group were told we had 'passed the assessment' and would definately be hearing from someone with interviews and offers soon. I have a suspicion this is what all 3 groups were told as from there we were sent away out of different parts of the building.

Since then i have heard nothing! I have chased them a couple of times without any kind of response. I would be very interested to see someone from the company respond to these reviews because clearly everyone has the same opinion.

If you are considering this assessment day.....dont bother. If they offer an interview or position be very cautious.

“I can only really echo the sentiments of what has...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Beermonster1983 on 19/01/2011

I can only really echo the sentiments of what has already been posted regarding Pareto Law. I had the misfortune of attending one of their assessment days midway through 2009 at their London office above a travel agent in Hammersmith, which is as already pointed out by others riduculously small and stuffy to hold 50 plus graduates for an assessment centre.

The build-up to the day was interesting to say the least, a telephone interview followed by a request from an interviewer to email her periodically the week before to "test my commitment" as I was going abroad for ten days prior to the day.

The day itself was as shambolic and as disorganised as previously described, it got off to a bad start when the sales director of Orange (Pareto's main cleint on that day) arrived 40 minutes late. While the individual introductions were a good way to break the ice, the group exercises rapidly descended into a shouting match, with no clear structure as far as I could see. What Pareto clearly don't understand is that sales is as much about listening, as well as talking. Also, as already pointed out here already, in order for someone to succeed in these exercises, they need to behave and come across in a certain manner, so it's artficial, and certainly not a true reflection of themselves. If you can play this game it's fine, but I'd challenge Pareto's clients to think about this when handing over several thousand pounds in fees.

The individual presentation was probably one of the better parts of the day, but whether you're successful here usually comes down to whether the panel decides if they like you or not. The day finishes with a frankly ridiculous exercise involving staging an advert for a novelty invention - this seems to have been conceived by Pareto purely for their own amusement, and to humiliate the unfortunate graduates.

Perhaps the most intriguing thing about this company is its boast of a 94% retention rate - I find this very difficult to believe, especially when the key tool used to assess applicants involves a group who've never met each other arguing over a crashed spaceship.

The day ended with me being unsuccessful - we were told "we don't think sales is something you'd enjoy" which kinds of begs the question as to why we'd applied in the first place, and why Pareto accepted us to their centre, having passed the telephone interview stage - who on earth would apply to work in a field they didn't think they'd enjoy? I went on to pass two other assessment days with similar companies who promptly went bust, so I ended up back at square one. The feedback I received from Pareto's assessor's was vague in the extreme - the guy I spoke to kept repeating certain phrases a lot - "for us" "...you tailed off towards the end of the exercise" and "I think you were one of those people who for us was on the cusp..."

The whole day was a total waste of time and money. I left with the overall feeling that I never really got any chance to sell myself. Pareto's staff put through the people they like, and that's it. The trouble is that Pareto almost have a stranglehold on this sector of the job market (graduate sales) so if you don't get through wth them, it's very tough to find an inroad elsewhere, especially in the current market.
In my opinion, people should avoid this outfit like the plague.

“Pareto are not the company that they percieve...”

written by on 14/12/2010

Pareto are not the company that they percieve themselves to be, they have placed me in a role that i'm not very happy in. When i got to speak with them about this they take the detail and not the context straight to my boss! he then confronts me about my problems in a negative way not good care of graduates and their welfare.

Pretty annoyed that the job role i was sold is a lie still cold calling and im 6 months plus into the job haven't been on a meeting and throughly bored! going to find myself my own job where some sleazy airheads don't get a payment out of me!

Sue From Pareto's Comment

Written on: 04/01/2011

Dear graduate,
<br/>
<br/>Thank you for taking the time to post a review.
<br/>
<br/>I am shocked by your impression of Pareto and disappointed to read about your experience. Pareto is proud of the unique approach we take to recruitment. The partnerships formed with our graduates and clients are of equal importance so it is disappointing to hear that when you spoke to us in confidence the conversation was raised to your line manager. I would like to speak to you personally to gain a clear understanding of what happened here so to avoid my comments being taken out of context, I can only offer a limited response.
<br/>
<br/>We work very hard to make placements successful which requires all parties involved taking ownership and responsibility. If we don't support you and ensure your training is going well we can not expect you to succeed, if you don't have the attitude to want to succeed and work hard to develop within the organisation you can not expect to succeed and our clients must have a succession plan in place to ensure you can develop in your role and are rightly rewarded for success.
<br/>
<br/>When you start a new job, there will always be a learning period; a time to understand the organisation, products and your role. My advice at this stage would be to speak with friends or family and put into context how quickly you can progress within an organisation - I am sure that you will find six months is a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things. We are always looking to create long-term partnerships between our clients and graduates; for our graduates this means securing them a career not just a job. In sales, progression is meritocratic so promotion is achieved once all agreed targets have been hit. Again unfortunately without speaking to you I cannot comment on your personal situation. All I can say is that whilst every role is different, progression will come for individuals who work hard, show ambition and produce consistent results.
<br/>
<br/>I am choosing not to reply to your immature comments about 'sleazy airheads' and would encourage you to bring maturity and a professional, positive attitude to the rest of your career.
<br/>
