“Home breakdown experience.”

Front suspension failed between putting car into garage and trying to get it out for next use. As a result shredded tyre. Called GEM for help. Call handler most helpful and advised that would receive text regarding collection. This arrived promptly and indicated collection within less than one hour. This was followed later by collection being delayed by a further hour. Later followed by incomprehensible call from recovery firm. Waited but no sign of collection. Eventually there was not enough time to collect car and deliver to repair garage before they closed. Contacted GEM again, and arranged for a different recovery firm for early following morning. This went without hitch, and car subsequently repaired. Throughout GEM staff were polite helpful and concerned. Fortunately this was a home breakdown. My views would have been somewhat different if had been stuck at side of road.

“Night in shining armour!”

Stuck in a hospital car park in freezing cold for four hours and stupidly ran battery down . Husband admitted, really poorly and due to Covid I’m not allowed in. Car wouldn’t start. Phoned GEM. First time I have had to call them. FANTASTIC! So kind and patient. Mechanic was with me in about 40 minutes. A real knight in shining armour! No fuss, no tutting just got me going and wished my husband well. 2 calls from office to check I was ok and safe. Thank you for excellent service.

“Punctured Tyre”

I do not remember names of who I spoke to, but was generally happy with Gem, the only instance I wasn't happy with was the fact that the driver told me He wasn't having the Covid vaccination, but was tested Negative at that time. With all the problems about taking care with the pandemic I find that a driver with a rescue company saying "he didn't want that rubbish in his body" I find that uncalled for. Luckily, I had the vaccination and had a mask on.

“Stuck at home with a flat battery!”

Discovered on my way out that the battery was flat on the car due to it having been used for several weeks. As the battery is in the boot I couldn't even open the boot to put it on charge. The local garage responded in a very short time (45 minutes) and soon sorted the problem. Thank you GEM, it's the first time I have had to call upon your services and I'm well impressed.

“Home start needed”

Being in lockdown my car is not getting much use. After a particularly cold night the car would not start and obviously had a flat battery. I called GEM, explained my situation and said I was in no hurry for assistance. However, a mechanic arrived within half an hour and had the car started in a very short time. Very good service.

“Latest breakdown experience ”

Have used Gem for just over a year, have been very impressed with the professional service they have given. My last breakdown my car got stuck in a field and needed to be pulled out using a hoist, It was classified as specialist equipment so I needed to pay an additional fee to be rescued. I feel that was not justified as if it was a different kind of breakdown and my car could not be fixed my car would have been hoisted onto the recovery truck using the same equipment but there would not have been a charge for specialist equipment. “Motor way breakdown ”

Engine just failed in the outside lane of M25 I manged to drift over to the inside as far as possible. I got over the crash barrier and called Gem explained my situation and they arranged for a vehicle to take me off the motorway and home. This all happened in less than 20 minutes with frequent calls to check I was safe and ok traffic officer's arrived to assist with reducing the danger of the situation. I was asked where I wanted to be taken to so i said home and I was transported the 80 miles home. A very satisfactory outcome to a very eventful day

Gem Motoring Assist Breakdown Cover appears to have a glowing reference from existing customers but I just wanted to check whether the recovery reclaim was easy to do and whether anybody had had any trouble with this?

As soon as you have your receipt from the recovery company, send it in the post to GEM and they will respond by return with your refund. Believe me, they are very quick and very efficient.

You print off the latest claim form from their site, attach the receipt and send it off. The money is transferred straight into your bank within days Fantastic service

I have used the breakdown service on two occasions and reimbursement has been very quick. Don't forget to send in a receipt.
