“Turanzo T001 205-55-R16-W on Ford Focus Mk2 poor handling”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bruce123 on 14/12/2013

I bought these for all 4 wheels 6 months ago for £80 each, seemed reasonable for a major brand. At current rate of wear they should last for 30K miles, which I am happy with. I also did a quick test in wet and dry and breaking in a straight line it was OK. What's the problem with them then? Turning and cornering isn't safe. For example, when simply turning around a bend or overtaking a parked vehicle the car loses traction and 'slides' out. I then I have to compensate by turning the wheel further in and then pull back when it finally grips properly. I dread to think what they'll be like in the snow. I think there is some kind of design fault with these tires, there are three huge groves running around the centre to prevent aquaplaning, but there are no deep horizontal grooves for traction. The only horizontal grooves it has are very small, which according to their corporate blurb are designed to absorb tyre noise, not for grip. It's not just me, look at the independent reviews where they have actually tested the tyres on the road (Auto Express Summer Tyre Test 2012 in the UK and Finnish Test World Summer Tyre Test 2013), they say the same thing. "These tyres are not enough good in wet conditions for the product of such a major manufacturer, and the situation on dry pavement isn't much better." I pay extra mainly for safety, and this is what I get? Save yourself some money and get a mid-range tyre like Hankook or if premium, a Conti/Dunlop. Thanks, Bruce.

“Front tires external thread wearing out too fast, too soon”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 27/06/2013

Drive a bmw 118d f20. Rear wheel drive and 140bhp. I am poorly amazed by these tires lifespan! In less then 10 months and 20.000 Km, the front left tyre has run out of the external thread (really out! 0 mm of thread) while the right tyre still has some depth(not much, but surely more than 0mm). I'm not making fancy corners all day, and surely not all to the right side! I drive home-work-home so not much room for fancy driving. The reason why they are worn out is because they suck!! Bad tyres (at least for rear wheel drive cars). Would not recommended them ever! Truth be said, before they wear out too soon, they are confortable and stear and feel good.

“Very poor in slippy conditions”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/09/2012

They may be a reasonable tyre on dry roads but they give no warning at all before letting go when it is slippy. I was luck to get away with cosmetic damage after losing front end control at 5mph in the snow. That was simply turning the steering wheel with no breaking. My traction control was cutting in constantly when pulling off but when I replaced them with Vredestein HiTrac it didn't need to help out once. The road noise gets very loud when they wear down whereas other brands have not been as noticeable. Also I have had issues with a bulge in the sidewall on one tyre. At the time I put this down to a pothole but I've seen from reviews that this is common enough with this model.

Bridgestone Turanza are NOT winter tyres, thus they will NOT perform well in winter conditions. Summer tyres behave as if they are made of plastic in temperatures +3 degrees and under because of the rubber they are made of. I had them for two SUMMER seasons and replaced them with another set of Turanzas, as I am happy with them! However, I have a set of winter tyres in the loft, which I put on our cars when the winter comes. I do not expect to feel warm in the winter wearing only summer clothes, so please - do not expect winter performance from summer tyres!

“Shocked by some of the reviews”

★★★★★

written by on 19/12/2011

I am very shocked by some of the negative reviews of these tyres. They are great. They were fitted as standard to my Astra and I got just shy of 50,000 miles before needing to replace the front ones, rear tyres still had 8mm at this point. I drive about 35,000 miles a year on various types of road and these tyres cope well with them all very well. Today I drove on a very wet motorway and there was not even the slightest loss of grip. I have had better tyres in the snow, but they cope pretty well with it, I made it out through all of the harsh winter last year. In the wet these tyres are great, you barely notice the difference between stopping in wet and dry. Maybe some people have had bad luck, but from my experience these are great tyres.

“Bridgestone Turanza 205 55 16 Appaling Wear Rate”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/08/2011

My wife has just worn out a front pair of Turanzas on her 2.2 CDTI Honda Civic and they have lasted no more than 18 months on a car that has done no more than 8,000 miles in that time. Really terrible tyre wear and given my other car is also a Honda Accord with the same engine I am getting over 20,000 miles from them and they are Michelin Pilot Sport 2's. So far the Civic has gon through 3 sets of tyres in the time the Accord has gone through 2 sets. Think I will pay the extra next time for some Michelins !! I wish I had read these reveiws before just replacing the tyres with the same brand which came off !!!

Have you considered the possibility of your and her different driving styles affecting wear rate?
Maybe she is heavier on both the accelerator and brakes.

“I bought 4 new tyres 3 months ago, Bridgestone Turanza...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/04/2011

I bought 4 new tyres 3 months ago, Bridgestone Turanza 205 / 55R16
and already one has a huge bulge on the side wall. I brought it back to the place i bought it in Galway, Fastfit tyres and i could not get any money back or even a new replacement tyre for it.

I am a very careful driver, and live in the countryside, so don't have any kerbs i could drive up onto or against. There are a few potholes, but i drive carefully.

Fastfit in Galway said they contact Bridgestone, but no refund, or no replacement given.

While they work, they give very good grip even in the wet. But they wear out too fast, and either have structural weakness or are too soft in the walls.

Very disappointed by the customer care not been given about this.

Dave

nasty tyres, way too soft.

Twice have had innocent obejects punch the sidewall (things which shouldnt even make a mark really), never seen anything like it in 18 yrs driving. These tyres both got punctured within 1month of fitting. Sidewall rubber too soft, like eraser more. These tyres are bad. Totally useless. They might hold the road good because they are soft, but the wear quick, and frankly a total waste of money...

Came fitted to my civic, reasonable cormering but wear quickly, atrociously poor grip in the snow.I've driven all sorts of vehicles including rear wheel drive transits in snow and ice and with skill progress can usually be made in any vehicle especially something front wheel drive. These tyres make you look like a dick in the slightest dusting of snow.

Just changed to 4 new Bridgestone Turanza's after 30,000K. The roads round here are very bad, so I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did. The road handling is great and they are quiet on the road. My MPG is over 50 - it's a diesel car.

“This Turanza tire came standard with my brand new...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 15/06/2010

This Turanza tire came standard with my brand new Honda Civic 2006. All 4 tires were worn down completely to the warning bar after aprox. 28,000 KM (17,000 Miles). Absolute garbage Tires!!!! If I had an option to not put a star for any of the ratings in this review I simply would not. I only had to put a star as it is mandatory to complete this review. The replacement cost by Honda with the exact same tire was aprox. $250.00 for each tire not including tax, balancing, or installation. A set of 4 new Turanza tires would punch you well past $1100.00. Dollar value per km/miles is EXTREMELY extremely poor!!!! The Honda Civic 2006 - 2007 models came with poorly designed control arms for the rear of car which advances wear & cupping on inner side of Tire. Although this Honda Civic model creates premature tire wear these Turanza tires were worn out all over the tire surface for both the front and rear tires. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NO ONE TO EVEN CONSIDER THE TURANZA TIRE WHATSOEVER - SAVE YOUR MONEY FOLKS! As for you Honda Civic 2006-2007 owners ask your dealer to replace the rear control arms that cause premature wear - this is a warranty item but not on a recall list. The Turanza tires were so worn down in such a short time - that is why I am writing this review to save others the grief that I had to live through.

Just about to replace my front tyres after 38,700 miles, the rears look like they'll last 40K+. [But some excellent, cheap Yokohamas in the US are guaranteed to last 70K+ - those are excellent in every way - and cheap.]

At my last service all four tyres were replaced on my 2008 Prius. The fuel economy immediately dipped from 55mpg to 45mpg! High traction perhaps, and not what I expected a Toyota dealer to fit!!!

“Had a sidewall blowout on a front tyre after 5000 km!...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Doctor Steve on 13/01/2010

Had a sidewall blowout on a front tyre after 5000 km! Classic conical failure pattern from excessive internal stress; definitely a manufacturing defect. Lost control of the car in icy conditions; back swung round and hit a lamp post but the car's as tough as old boots, so no worries. I had Potenzas on the back which I have now put on the front (Turanzas now on the back). I find that the Potenzas are poor at road holding on ice compared with the Turanzas but hopefully the thaw is on it's way.
This incident could have resulted in seriuos injury in a less robust car. I am concerned about integrity of Bridgestone tyres; would like to have known comparative statistical data on the failure rate before purchase.

I have the Bridgestone Turanza P205/5516 89H M+S on a brand new 2009 Corolla that I bought 13 months ago. I have 24K on the car, and the tires are shot. That's simply unacceptable to have to buy new tires on a new car before 40K.

I think this is simply a very poor quality product, and I'm shocked that Toyota allowed this garbage on their car.

Time to replace them much to my chagrin, and I feel stupid for not having researched the tires on a new car before I purchased it.

It's utterly unfair to suggest that 24k is a short life - this reviewer is probably not aware that the "M&S" version is for "Mud & Snow" and is necessarily a very soft winter compound. Unless the car was bought near the Arctic Circle, the dealer should not have fitted them. Used in the conditions for which they're designed, they are an excellent tyre.

Bridgestone Turanza tyres hold road really well. I have a peugeot 307 when my drivers front tyre was due for renewal i swopped it with a cheap tyre the day after i went round a sharp corner and the car slid out 2 lanes that was enough for me i went out that afternoon and swopped that same tyre for another turnanza (the bloke thought i was mad at tyre shop) but the way it holds road it was worth every penny!!!

I have a 2008 Scion XB. 19k miles on the Turanza tires and the wear bars are showing. Called Bridgestone to complain and they blamed Toyota. Said they use a different spec compound on OEM tires for Toyota to meet CAFE, reduce the rolling resistance and give the driver a better ride. Not happy I have to replace my tires so soon.

Had to change bridgestone turanza tyres after 17,000 miles on a new car, very conservative driving style, is this a BMW scam, you cant have normal tyres as there is no room anymore for a spare, so they can charge you for a set of run flats every year !!!!! cost ' 120 each at BMW garage !! crazy
