“Would not recommend”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ethen45 on 22/07/2016

We have used more than since 2008 and have paid over £2500 in premiums for our two dogs. We have never made a claim until this year, and have paid many bills we probably could have claimed for to avoid premium increases. This year our border terrier developed a cruciate problem and was going to have an operation but after hydrotherapy, rest and diet changes it was decided not to proceed with the operation. However we decided to claim for hydrotherapy, X rays and the consultations. After taking off the excess and the % we had to pay this came to £350, which they paid, but we were horrified that her new premium had increased by £140 in one jump. It seems that they only want to insure healthy animals and make money. We contacted them about this to complain but they were just not interested. We have cancelled this insurance and started a savings account instead!

“More than pet insurance very poor service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Redannette27 on 21/07/2016

I've been with more than pet insurance for quite a few years but not for much longer. They are very slow to pay out when you try to claim from them. They increase their policies by a large amount each year then you have to phone them and eventually they decrease it and offer you Argos vouchers. When I phoned them today asking why I still hadn't received a claim form after five days, the guy actually said that they have a large volume of claims to deal with!!! But they are quick enough to take your money. My advice is shop around and look at reviews before you take out insurance.

“Do not use. ”

written by Maldonadori366 on 07/04/2016

I have insured my dog with them for 8 years and claimed only once. My dog has just passed away and they refuse to pay any insurance to the vets. He was 13 and I agree with the previous review. Excessive charges for elderly animals then refuse to pay out after paying them £56.83 a month. I might as well thrown my money into the bin!! My advice is 'd not use them'. My other dog is insured through Tesco and they are brilliant.

Did you know that More Than provide Tesco with their insurance so it's the same company?

“Good cover, no hassle claims”

★★★★★

written by madterrier on 05/01/2016

Very happy with our pet insurance with More Than. Good level of cover. When we lost our cat Button, they were prompt to settle the claim and easy to deal with. They even allowed us to backdate a claim that was old and out of date (had not realised at the time it was claimable). Quite a contrast with the massively overrated Petplan. Expensive and hide behind the small print to wriggle out of paying claims. Did not have this problem with More Than, fund their claim procedure quick, efficient and friendly.

“Huge price increases”

We have insured our Cocker through More Than for the last eight years and have only made one claim , was very disappointed when this years renewal came through with a 25% increase on the premium , together with a higher excess and an increase in the amount we have to pay for treatment Have now cancelled the policy which is a shame but clearly MoreThan not keen on insuring dogs as they get older !!

“Avoid”

written by EmeryMurdock32 on 21/10/2015

Took out the insurance last year on two puppies. Unfortunately one of the puppies had a retained baby tooth which needed removing. Was informed policy did not cover it (despite being a substantial policy) as it wasn't an accident. Could have coped with this but staff on phone were consistently rude, kept getting my details wrong such as my name and was past from pillar to post. To add insult to injury I only took out the insurance based on potential quidco cashback - which has been declined.

I was in a panic wen I realise my 6 year old dog was seriously ill. He has had 3 operations in two weeks and maxed out our policy allowance of £7000.00. I called Morethan to confirm the top limit, the lady I spoke to was very nice and efficient and my claim form was sent directly to the vets. Three days later received a lovely bunch of flowers from the company.......such a nice gesture that won't be forgotten...thankyou Morethan...

“Amazing help switching from RSPCA insurance”

★★★★☆

written by Keith178 on 17/09/2015

My parents went away on holiday, leaving me to take care of the cats. One cat had broken her leg in the past and unfortunately 1 week into their holiday she broke it again. When I went to find the pet insurance details expecting bills of £2000 similar to the last time, I found that the previous RSPCA insurance had been stopped and an offer to join More Than was given to customers. My parents had wrongly assumed that the policy would automatically start, they never read the paperwork properly and did not realise all they were sent was a quote. My only option was to phone up More Than (my parents were in the middle of a forest at the time) and ask if there was any way we could take up their quote now, a full month after it had expired, because the cat had injured herself again. I thought it was a long shot but the agent on the phone did everything he could to help. My mum had to call from the side of a road next to the forest to authorise me on the account but after that everything went so smoothly. The customer service assistant extended the quote, back dating it to the original expiry date of the policy, knowing full well that we'd be almost immediately making a claim. They were polite and patient, I was an absolute wreck because I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to afford to pay for my cat's treatment! I could not recommend them highly enough for their excellent customer service. The claims were also processed quickly and easily. We're very happy customers and are continuing our cover with them.

“A business with no interest in my pet and high premiums. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kanegg338 on 04/05/2015

My labrador has always been healthy. After a visit to our vet last year it was suggested that she have an operation to remove a lump without any prior testing. The insurance company were happy for me to make a claim. I was unhappy about the operation so sort a second opinion. It was unnecessary! The first and only claim was made later that year. I am unhappy that the insurance company were happy to pay for an unnecessary operation. I am changing my insurance company. My advice is ask around. I would have liked to have been told when taking out the insurance that regardless of making a claim that the cost of the premium would increase by about 5X over an 8 years period.

“Excessive Premium increases”

★★★☆☆

written by on 20/03/2015

Have just received renewal notice-monthly increase is over £28. Last year it was £22- a total increase in2years of £50. My dog reached tha age of 10 yearslast year so I thouht that was the reason for the large amount. He has been diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy and been put on epiphen, but has not had any fits for about 3 years. I have only claimed for his blood tests and pills (which are quite cheap). Iwas horrifyed to get the next years premium of £80. Irang them to seeif it was a mistake but it was not. They refused to budge on this ammount. It would seem to me that customers with animals with a pre-existing condition (for which it is extremely difficult to change insurers)are being exploited by this company. I had a whippet who died in september at the age of 16years who had many large claims during her life but her premiums did not increase so much. Are they just trying to get their moneyback? I would love to change insurer but I am grudgingly stuck with them. MORE THAN PET INSURANCE

“professional, supportive and friendly service”

★★★★☆

written by Donut2015 on 19/03/2015

We very recently lost our beloved family pet cat called Donut. We had him 17 years and loved him very much, this loss has been very difficult. Donut was very much a big part of our family life, he and our son grow up together and loosing Donut has left an emptiness in our home. Along side coming to terms with our personal loss was the upsetting fact I had to now cancel his pet insurance of which I dreaded, just the realization of it all. I spoke with a very kind, empathetic staff member who remained professional but thoughtful whilst I had to explain our beloved pet had passed away and when. For several years Donut had a condition that required regular blood tests and medication, More than pet insurance always paid each claim in a timely fashion and gave us peace of mind that they never turned their backs on us as customers, without that support from our insurers it would have been very difficult for the duration of time to keep all treatments and that is a harsh reality that vet fees can run into their thousands. More than pet insurance enabled us to have that peace of mind to have longer with our beloved pet. To the kind Gentleman I spoke with recently from our insurers, Mr Gill I would like to thank you personally for your kind words and gesture from both myself and family. It is very reassuring to know that Donut was cared for not just by ourselves but a kindly person such as your self. I can honestly say you helped make a very difficult time a little easier. Thank you.

“watch this space”

written by Jaylin452 on 07/02/2015

My cat is 16 years of age and has always been well. I insured her for the first 10 years of her life and never made a claim. I decided to leave it then and if anything happened I would pay. Last year my dog aged 13 who is insured became ill and I was so thankful for the insurance, as she has an ongoing condition which is covered. This made me rethink the situation and take cover with Morethan - the cheapest quote. 3 months after taking it out my cat lost some weight and was eating more, yet happy. I thought it was her age, until a friends cat displayed the same symptoms and was now needing treatment. I therefore took her to the vet and they ran tests, these cost over £300 which I paid, then they started her on medication and more tests - soon I had spent over £500. I completed the claim form with the vet and they sent it in for me. I heard nothing for 3 weeks so emailed asking how it was progressing. I have today had an email asking who her previous vet was and when did I notice she was ill. I have sent them details of the previous vet, she hasn't been there for at least 5 years and also details of how I ended up at the vets. The company my dog is with - E & L - have been amazing, paid immediately, no problems and very polite. I am not happy with this. I put all the information on the form when I made the claim and also when I actually took out the policy. I can only think they are trying to get out of settling the claim after reading what others have said. I will let you know how I go on.

“ALMOST DOUBLE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LandenMcDowell229 on 20/01/2015

My first year with More Than Pet Insurance was £300 for my Dog age 4, I was paying their top premium level for up to £12,000 cover PA I had to make a claim (a one off not ongoing, for £350) My vet has told them so. my second years premium was increased by £263 to £563, from £25pm to £47pm, almost double As a pensioner on £140pw this will hit me hard. I phoned More than to ask if they could put me on a lower Max level or some way of getting my premium down, I was given a definite no, they then phoned me back 10 minutes later Said " we assume you will be leaving so we have cancelled your policy for now & if I would like it re-instated I should phone them back before the expiry date" You expect when you take out insurance they will pay your losses for you not charge you for it on your following years premium

“PET INSURANCE My quote for inurance for my cat.”

★★★★☆

written by Tattybags on 13/01/2015

I began my quote for insurance for Henry on line. Someone from More Than rang me back to see if I would like to pursue the quote. This I did and was very happy with the way the conversation went. The young lady I spoke to was extremely helpful. I concluded the quote which came out at £9.47 per month on premium cover. I was very happy with this although a little surprised as all other quotes for the same amount of cover were about twice that much. The next day, looking through Henry's paperwork from the rescue centre I realised his free months insurance cover ran out 3 days before More Than cover was due to start so I rang back to alter the start date. Unfortunately that was not possible and I wasn't prepared to have him uninsured for 4 days. So the first policy was cancelled and another quote was done. As well as the phoneline being so bad I could hardly hear the operative on the other end but she said she was unable to phone me back because they were very busy, I was not as impressed as I had been with the first young lady. Half of the cover was not read out to me and I had to go through the list of cover I had been given on the first quote and ask if it still applied. It did - but I was not informed of that fact. Also wanted to know if I was covered for boarding fees if I waa hospitalised, it turns out that I am but I had not been informed of that fact I wasn't given details about cover abroad and farewell cover ie for Euthanasia/ cremation/ Burial. I mm not as confident in this second quota as I was with the first. I will wait til paperwork comes out in the post and see if I am still happy with everything and if I'm not I have 14 days in which to change my mind. My monthly premium also went up from £9.47 to £10.51 overnight, but that I understand was because the second time I didn't start the quote online, I rang to ask if I could change the start date, a little unfair I thought !

“Brilliant Customer Service”

★★★★★

written by Newna on 23/11/2014

My dog had an accident after only 17 days of purchasing pet insurance through More Than. Once she had come through her operation and I knew she was going to be okay, I started the claim process, thinking I may have a battle on my hands after hearing all sorts of horror stories about pet insurance. But thankfully, I had nothing to worry about. After downloading the claim form from the website, I decided I needed to make a quick phone call to More Than with a query to ensure I was completing the claim form correctly. I got through (very quickly) to a very helpful lady who answered my questions and who put me at ease that my claim would be dealt with very quickly. A cheque for the full amount of the claim was sent to the vets within 2 weeks of More Than receiving the claim form. Definitely a stress-free process and would highly recommend More Than for pet insurance.

“Be prepared for lifetime premium increase £4 from 1st...”

★★★☆☆

written by Karmangel on 17/08/2014

More Than has one of the most comprehensive lifetime covers. I took out the most expensive policy for my non-pedigree kitten and she has just turned 1 in May with no claims or pre-existing conditions. The renewal policy I received was a surprise because it has gone up from 9.61 to over 13 pounds. the customer service lady was embarrassed herself and suggested I cancel and retake a new More Than policy. However, it will always go up and every year, makes me nervous to think what would happen if I actually had to make a claim, or when she gets older. At this rate I am better off having a fixed savings account set aside for my cat. My cat is young only just turned one, she is not a pedigree, she is an indoor cat, she is micro chipped, she is vaccinated, she has had no claims or pre-existing conditions. This is an insurer who is looking at the bottom line and is not fair to the consumer, in fact, does not really understand that they are losing responsible could-have-been-lifetime pet owner customer. Will be trying another insurer now.

“New Quote £2222.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by caggar on 12/08/2014

Premiums have risen approximately by £300 per year.1ST YR £250, 2nd £500, 3rd £800, 4th £1100, 5th £1140, this year a stunning £2222 ..£187per month. Our dog has had cruciate leg damage and More Than have paid straight away but considering we do have to pay the first £70 plus 10% of the bill they are about even with what we have paid...but a rise in premiums by almost £800 is amazing. You try to speak with them but straight away you are aware that they will not negotiate. Keep away

“Very happy to leave”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 31/07/2014

Initially signing up to More Than Pet Insurance is easy, they quote a low monthly premium for the first 12 months and generally their claims process is easy and hassle free. After the first 12 months the premiums increase significantly. I realise that the premium is affected by various circumstances, but no one at More Than was able to tell me exactly why they increase by such a large amount. When my renewal notice came informing me that my premiums will now be increased by a further £13 per month (total of £25 increase monthly since initially signing up) I decided to cancel. It was a policy year during which no claims were made, my pet is only 3 years old now so cannot be considered "old" as they tried to explain. I am very happy to say goodbye to More Than Pet Insurance and can only hope that my new insurance company has more sensible premiums after the first 12 months.
