“Serious burns in Borneo”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AndySimcox on 04/10/2014

I have been using Riemann SP20 for well over ten years now.. Just before we came out to Malaysia for a big holiday I purchased some SP20 factor 30. Never again and I will be contacting Riemann directly when I get home. This is being written on the day that I was in the sun for less than three hours and have received serious burns on my back, not bad when it states it lasts for ten hours on the bottle, it has excess alcohols in it as its a spray now, alcohols means less protection to me. This has now ruined my holiday for a few days while I wait for the burns to go down a bit and look out some decent sun cream. The old cream was just SPF20 and I stayed in thirty eight degree heat and blasting sun all day watching world super bikes in Italy and didn't burn. Riemann please read these reviews, I don't know what you have done to your formula, but it's not worked. Go back to the old stuff, it used to be amazing. Too many negative comments on here only says one thing.

★★★★★

written by SoniaMoore on 06/09/2014

This suncream was brilliant just come back from Majorca where temperatures were in the 90's used this and didn't burn at all we used 50+. As for the staining we put this on 15 mins before putting clothes on it was quite greasy but didn't stain our clothes can't recommend enough.

written by harryo1 on 25/08/2014

Purchased P20 for the first time, never again,I have always used No-Ad from the USA (Purchase thru Amazon),all of my polo shirts and linen shirts are ruined, stains are impossible to get out,I left them with the hotel staff to see if they could succeed but the answer came back that the product was ingrained in the fabric and would not wash out, alchol based oil felt like I was spraying myself ready for the fat fryer you have been warned.

“Does what it says on the tin, but also does something...”

★★★☆☆

written by Liberty35 on 01/08/2014

As a sun protector, it's great, never had a problem and used it for about 5 years. We wont be using it again however, the formula must have changed which now stains badly and I mean badly. It has ruined a number of new shirts., No more P20 for us. Shame

“Love this product!”

★★★★★

written by Dwyeriw243 on 21/06/2014

My family started using P20 last year at the suggestion of our Pediatrician. We have been very happy with not having to constantly apply sunscreen lotion. I am very allergic to multiple sunscreens/makeup and have not had an allergic reaction thus far. My eldest son has red hair, blue eyes and fair skin. P20 has been a excellent for him and he has never had a burn with the product.

“not what it used to be - whats gone wrong”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Amani1971 on 08/06/2014

Not sure what has happened to this stuff. I have used it several times before in very hot and tropical places and found it great and never burned (although always had the staining). So just before heading off to the Caribbean for 10 days i grabbed some SFP30. Like many other reviewers i burnt badly on day 1 after 3 hours. I used to use the SFP20 and have never had a problem. I am really not sure what has gone wrong with this stuff or what has changed. I won't be buying it again.

The product is good and at one time the container had a screw top which worked well and didn't leak however the present top is flip top and leaks and so on our return from our last trip had the stuff leak all into our case Why change a very good working top for the present one which doesn't . A trip to boots yesterday we found one on display leaking.

“Nothing else will do”

★★★★★

written by on 17/09/2013

I have fair skin and have to take care in the sun, but every year I get to spend 3 weeks all day everyday in the sun in Mozambique without ever burning and I still get to come home with a wonderful tan. I use it all over - remember you must apply it to dry skin at least 15 minutes before exposure to sun - in and out of the sea all day without having to reapply.

“Terrible product”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/09/2013

Bought factor 30 and used past week in Spain. Burnt to a cinder. Spoke to sun care rep at hotel who told me the alcohol in it (listed as first ingredient) dries out skin and number of chemicals in affect quality of protection when you sweat. She recommended buying a screen where aqua is listed as first ingredient. For a factor 30 I thought I was being careful but ruined my holiday. Threw rest out and will never put near my children's skin

“P20 stains clothes”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MichaelaTulipMills on 15/08/2013

It may protect you from the sun but it stains clothes, linen, towels even plastics. No stain remover works either. So be warned! As hotels and villa owners will likely charge you for the damage caused to their property or you will need to replace an expensive shirt ( it loves anything white!).

“Absolutely Dreadful - Not what it used to be! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Fee73 on 13/08/2013

We purchased P20 (Factor 30) for our 10 year old son to take on holiday to Turkey this year. I am absolutely horrified by the results and will be contacting Riemann directly. We applied the spray correctly and gave it an hour to soak in rather than the recommended 15 mins before going into sun. According to the instructions it provides 10 hours protection. Our son played in the pool for a few hours and wore a t-shirt between 11.30am and 3pm. The poor soul had the most horrendous sunburn on his shoulders which blistered badly and ruined his holiday. My husband and I also burned using this product and I already had lightly tanned skin. The solution evaporates very quickly on the skin so its easy to miss bits (although we made sure we covered our son in it), smells very alcoholy and stings eyes when used on the face. We used a different manufacturer Factor 30 for the remainder of the holiday and had no problems at all. We also met 2 other people on holiday who had a similar experience with this product. It just isn't what it used to be years ago and we won't ever be using it again!

“P20/P30 Suncream”

★☆☆☆☆

written by poppydog21 on 12/08/2013

My family have just been to my home in Spain and brought with them your creams P20 and P30. I would like to know what ingredient is in the cream that leaves anything white discoloured to a yellow. Both parents and children had clothes stained this way also my white toilet seat is also coloured yellowy which will not be removed with a strong bleach even. This has happened before when family came last year but I wasn't aware of it as I didn't wash any of their clothes. I soaked a new white tshirt in hot water and bleach and when I went to check all the yellow stains had turned a bright pinky red colour. I put tshirt on line outside and when it was dry the unbelievely the pinky red colour had returned to the original yellow stain. What chemicals do you use in the product that this can happen. I feel that you should warn people not to wear white after applying your product.

“Used on my daughter since she was two years...”

★★★★★

written by VLM1980 on 18/07/2013

I took my daughter on h first holiday abroad when she was 2 and we went to the south of France. She has blonde hair and is very fair so I was worried about sun burn. P20 is the best buy ever! For two weeks she was running about in and out of the pool and never burnt once! She is now 12 and this year I tried a different make of "once a day" sun cream as it was cheaper.....my poor daughter burnt and she actually blistered and has scares on her shoulders! I feel so guilty so don't be tempted into going for a cheaper version.....it's not worth it. You must remember to apply it on clean dry skin.

“Great Product”

★★★★★

written by on 08/07/2013

I used this a couple of years ago while in Turkey in August. My family and I put it on 20 minutes before going outside for the day. We swam and laid under the sun for 7+ hours and got beautiful tans without burning. We all came back tan and even and looking perfectly sunkissed. I would recommend this to anyone going to extremely hot climates and who doesn't want to worry about applying and reapplying a hundred times a day.

“Never again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/06/2013

Used this product for the first and last time, it stung my eyes and left an oily residue even after leaveing to dry longer than the recomended time. I didnt like the smell and it stained light coloured clothes and ruined them and even melted my nail polish you would need to wear rubber gloves when appying it to avoid this problem. I did burn slightly maybe I should have used a factor higher than 20. The only plus point to this product is the once a day application but the cons outway the one plus point. I will go back to using sunscreen that you have to reapply.

“Dissappointed with SPF50+”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 13/06/2013

The P20 SPF50+ did stop me burning but every outfit that I wore has been ruined as I cannot get the stains out. I followed the instructions but when you are in a hot country you sweat and then the P20 rubs onto your clothes.

“A new container for 2013!!!!”

★★★☆☆

written by on 08/06/2013

I have used P20 for at least 10 years with no problem apart from the staining, which is well documented & disappears once dry However the makers have brought out "a new & improved container" it is disastrous, it now has a flip lid to allow the liquid to be poured, it just pours out and the outer cap has been replaced by a snap on lid from the screw variety, I would suggest that you keep your old bottle and continue to use that, I have gone through more P20 in a week than I previously did in 3 weeks, I wish I had known before I threw my old container away. I hope Reimanns read these reviews and take some action. The product I would have still given 5 stars, the container 0 stars

“SPF 50+ P20 Spray - So Far, So Good”

★★★★☆

written by snapdragon777 on 09/04/2013

As a very fair-skinned person who's going to live on the equator for a while, I'm testing out a good few sunscreens. So far this one scores highly, although I've only had a chance to test it on a British sunny day, not an African one! I've tested carefully for the other issues people have mentioned - irritation, oiliness, staining - but didn't find any disadvantages that would outweigh the light feel, all-day protection and high SPF. In detail: I didn't react, so I assume some people are allergic? As for oiliness, I initially applied this to one side of my face, one arm and one shoulder. It felt wonderfully light on my face and even helped my BB cream blend better, so the side with the P20 looked better than the side without! 100x better than the Nivea suncream I used to use, which was far too heavy to add makeup on top. The P20 completely disappeared on my arm, where I have fine hair, and only looked a little oily on my shoulder. Still felt very comfortable though, bare or under clothes. As for checking for staining, I used an old white tshirt for a few tests... Applied directly to the cloth, the lotion does leave a luminous yellow stain, which also happens if you apply the P20 to skin and then rub it with the cloth not long after. So putting it on while wearing white clothes is a big no-no. That's what lost it a five star review. I'd be interested to know how long reviwers complaining of stains left it before dressing? After 10mins, however, I had to scrub really hard to get any colour transfer, even after wetting the skin. You'd barely even scrub that hard with a towel! Seeing as I wouldn't touch cloth to a sunscreened area before it was absorbed/dried anyway - and you don't have to reapply it once dressed! - waiting doesn't seem like much of an inconvenience. I might be wary with things like white canvas shoes however, and maybe sweating all day or swimming pool chemicals would have an effect. Importantly, I also didn't burn, although it will face its real test on the equator! For my money, how it feels on the skin, how it looks and the fact that it apparently lasts all day even in strong sun (requiring 50+ protection) definitely outweigh the stain issue. The convenience is awesome. Speaking of money, I picked mine up for £16.99 at Semichem. You'll have to use a lot, but my guess is this will last longer than other creams because of the once-a-day application... So let's call it average value. Will report back with other once-a-day cream comparisons and after use in Africa!

Have you tried Ultrasun? This is a top end once a day product at a similar price point and doesn't leave any stains! Recommended by professionals also. thesuncareshop.com has a great range at good prices with the added bonus of uk delivery!
