“Only got 1 as it couldn't get ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Greyson452 on 26/05/2017

Had my flight canceled, and aparently a cancelled flight isnt cancelled its just delayed, i had to fly so i had to book another flight and get to another airport, wont cover cost of the other flight, wont cover costs of getting to the other airport, and wont reimburse my money for my "delayed" cancelled flight. ABSOLUTE JOKE. RIP OFF. AVOID. DISGRACE.

“Rip Off !!!”

written by PostOfficeCon on 18/03/2017

I have just had a change in medical circumstance's and going on holiday within one week and only have one month left on my policy. I called the Post Office and took over 20 minutes to get through. I tried to tell the adviser what my medical condition was and he insisted on going through every thing. After another 15 minutes was told that there would be a surcharge but didn't expect it to be nearly £90!! My condition shouldn't result in any claim.

“Expensive to buy and disappointing when we had a problem.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ramsey212 on 17/02/2017

I've been buying Post Office travel Insurance for 10+ years and never needed to make a claim. Not that it's particularly good value but I naively thought I was dealing with a decent outfit. Last holiday in Majorca my wife tripped and broke her arm. I did everything right, all documentation as requested , signed ,countersigned medical records, everything proved. What a performance to get a pay out. I also found that I was suddenly dealing ,not with the Post Office, but their agents " Sentanta" (?) who are obviously tasked with making the claim process as difficult and stressful as possible. Really difficult, evasive, discourteous people to deal with. Eventually I got paid out but only because I'm stubborn and stuck at it. Next time I need insurance it will be anybody but the Post Office.

“Strongly advise against Post Office Travel Insurance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LewisHewitt on 05/08/2016

Booked my travel insurance for travelling to Spain and tried to make a claim for some lost items only to be told that my travel insurance policy only covered travel within the UK. This must have been in very small print because I stated that I was travelling to Spain. Absolutely ridiculous, and the insurance wasn't cheap either.

“Appalling post office travel insurance”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KaiyaShields on 23/01/2016

I have taken out post office travel insurance but fortunately never had to make a claim until this year. Last year my father was unexpectedly taken ill and so I had to cancel my holiday. I have provided the post office with all the documents they require including a letter from my fathers doctor confirming the dates he was unwell and that I attended him. The post office now ask for additional evidence (not mentioned in their claims form) including a further letter from from my fathers doctor confirming that at the time I bought this policy, the doctor would have seen no substantial likelihood of his/her patient’s condition deteriorating to such a degree that it would become necessary for me to attend them and cancel the trip. Clearly the post office will use any opportunity not to honour their contract. Their letters have been rude and insensitive and the customer service non existent. I certainly would not recommend the post office travel insurance.

“Incompetent , deceiving ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 217Hubbard on 06/10/2015

Took out an dual annual insurance with the post office in October 2014 , we are due to travel on Thursday so rang to double check the expiry on the insurance before we go , to be informed there was no record of the policy . I finally found the receipt of payment , with a policy number on the receipt so contacted them again , bearing in mind we have travelled abroad three times since the policy was bought , the guy I spoke to then gave me the email address of their manager and I was to forward the proof , to which I did and had no response . After contacting them via telephone again , I spoke to a female who yet again said the policy number has no record of existing and then proceeded to tell me therefore I didn't have cover ( you don't say) , I explained that's why I was calling as I had forwarded everything I was asked to on the previous day and had still had no response , she told me she was going to speak to the manager , who I had emailed , then returning to tell me it would be sorted in 5 days , when I explained yet again that was no good as we due to travel again on Thursday , she yet again put me on hold for a further 5 minutes , then returned telling me they had all of a sudden found the policy , to which I asked her to email me a copy and I was expecting it to have the same policy number as the one I had , she told me that was not possible , so I stated the obvious telling her I realised she was trying to set me up a new policy to cover their own backs , as to where there was no response , so I asked her clearly , you're telling me I paid for a years insurance and have travelled 3 times and have not been covered , to which she replied yes ! What an absolute disgrace , and I'm just thankful I firstly rang to check , and secondly that we have never needed the cover . I am currently seeking advice on taking this matter further , and still awaiting a refund for paying for a service I did not receive .

“Incompetent liars”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Katelyn266 on 20/07/2015

After having our holiday to Tunisia cancelled, I rang Post Office travel insurance and was told I could have a full refund of my policy. Was told it would be in my account within 5 days. One week later with no sign of the refund, I rang again. Was told it hadn't been processed as yet but that he'd had a word with someone and it was definitely on its way now. 4 days later I received a letter saying the policy had been cancelled but no refund was due. Understandably I was very annoyed so rang again and was on the phone 35 mins talking to some incompetent person who had no clue and kept putting me on hold. Hearing "Holiday" by Madonna over and over again only winds you up even more. Eventually I demanded to speak to a team leader who told me to ignore the letter and that I would indeed be receiving the refund but unlike what I'd previously been told, it wouldn't be returned to my bank account but would arrive through the post "within 5 days". Needless to say a week on I still haven't received it. Steer clear of them. Will never use them again.

“Not worth taking out”

★★☆☆☆

written by Gdog1980 on 09/06/2015

Took out the standard single trip insurance for myself and family, cost was £48.80, while holidaying in Mallorca I developed a rash on both my legs, it was quite severe so I decided to visite a medicalClinique to get some treatment, to see a doctor cost €118.46 and the pharmacy cost a further €18.40, however I can only claim back £28 pounds due to excess. Not really worth paying for in my opinion. I would like to say though that my experience on the phone with the post office insurance claims team was helpful and reasonably quick so thank you for that.

“Going downhill”

written by Depc on 03/06/2015

We have used PO for insurance for many years, it now appears PO have changed their provider and a recent claim due to a broken foot is being prolonged by the new provider. My policy was with Axa and it was paid without issue, my tracel companion took out her policy after the provider was chnaged, she is having a nightmare trying to prove the claim. We will look very carefully when renewal time comes round. Shame theynused to be so good.

“Disgraceful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 03/06/2015

I took my insurance out at the start of April and suffered a heart attack 18 days later, I phoned the Post Office and informed them of the situation and they told me they would no longer cover me, all well and good. However when I asked them to return my money they informed me that they did not have to return the money as they had cancelled my insurance after the 14 day limit, they had cancelled it not me. I asked for confirmation that such action was legal and was told they would get back to me, no one did, so I wrote emails to request clarification but no one has replied to me. A really disgraceful way to act, take your money, cancel your policy and give no refund, they could teach the mafia a thing or two.

“Ended up having to buy new insurance!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/03/2015

We have had an annual post office insurance policy for years. Recently, we needed to make a slight amendment to the policy before a trip. We attempted to speak to someone several times in the weeks before the trip. Always, after queuing for around 30 to 45 minutes, someone would answer and say that they had very high workload and that someone would need to ring us back. We repeatedly organised times for them to call us back, but no calls ever came. The situation became urgent in the run up to the trip so we rang once again, and after queuing, explained that it was now urgent. Again, they said that they couldn't help us due to high workload but that someone would call us back that week, in good time for our departure the next week. Once again, that call never arrived. Despite having an annual policy, we ewe forced to buy new insurance with a different company to make sure that we were fully covered. They did eventually ring, when we were in the taxi on the way to the airport. I said that I wanted to escalate the matter to a complaint. Have we ever heard from them? No. After around 10 years as loyal customers, we will not be renewing our policy.

“Customer service line constantly busy”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kyson13 on 06/02/2015

Have tried to contact the postoffice three times and have waited over 30 minutes on each occasion before being put through a customer service adviser. After having to speak to a manager on the third occasion and was promised a return call the following day, I am again in a queue that is still waiting to be answered. The recorded message keeps stating apologies for high call volumes and please expect to wait unto ten minutes for the call to be answered. Its a joke! Totally peeved. They will cover my unaccompanied niece and nephew for a trip to Canada but the policy document says those travelling under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. They can do the cover and they have told me this. I just want something in writing to state that they are covered. They apparently do not have then facilities to even just send an a one sentence email to confirm this. Now holding for 27 mins ffs!

written by penelope69 on 14/01/2015

I have been trying to get through to cancel my policy for 2 days. Phoned up post office complaints they put me through to the same no. still no reply. Went to local P.O. to try and sort it out. The reply was it's nothing to do with them, you have to try and get through yourself. I am furious. Been using P.O. for 20 years never again!!!!!

“Cancelled flight”

★★★★★

written by Alice1992 on 14/11/2014

Recently I was unable to take a return flight to Tenerife because of the sudden death of my mother. I contacted Axa Insurance (who underwrite the Post Office Travel Insurance). I explained the situation and within a week I received a cheque for the total air fare which I had paid less the £60 excess. I found the Axa lady very polite and helpful. I cannot fault the service in any way.

“Check the health of family/friends NOT travelling with...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TillyWilly1960 on 22/08/2014

We had to cancel our holiday last Christmas, one week before departure, when my mother in law died with cancer. She had been ill for months but having taken out annual multi trip in April we had booked the much needed holiday in September. When my husband phoned the Post Office the girl seemed quite delighted to tell him that because his mother "had been diagnosed within 12 months of taking the policy out" we were not covered. We thought we were insuring ourselves, as I'm sure most people do, not the whole family and our close friends!

“Didn't cover any of the costs incurred. Useless.”

★★☆☆☆

written by RandomUsername123 on 04/08/2014

Flight delayed by 4 hours meant I had to rent a hotel room. Not covered as delay was < 8 hours. Baggage stuck at JFK when I landed at Heathrow. My keys were in my case so I couldn't get into my house so had to buy a few clothes at Asda to see us over a couple of days. Cost £51. £45 excess per person so of no use there either lol. Seriously, what is the point? I think it's only useful in utter catastrophic events; for everything else you're not covered.
