“I went the LG route 4 years ago via a wide screen TV,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/10/2009

I went the LG route 4 years ago via a wide screen TV, Integrated DVD /Amp/Tuner and VCR. I'm writing this review now to warn others of inferior products that dont last. It started playing up from day one, the TV went back after 2 weeks, the DVD player never really played well (to the point that more often than not we defaulted to the Sony Playstation to play DVD's) and the sound fluctuated. I'll never again even come close to considering an LG (Life's Garbage) product. I've gone back to Sony/ Panasonic for Good. I can only hope others have a better experience.

I bought my LG 37LG30R 6 months ago when I lived in Dubai. I had trouble tuning it in from the beginning which I thought may have been Orbit the st TV provider at faul because it was sometimes better han others. Then the remote stopped working. I didn't get time to follow up on the remote and it worked using the buttons on the side. It came with an iternational warranty which I assujed would cover the TV if I took it home at the end of my work so moving back to UK shouldn't be a major problem. It was shipped to UK along with all my other things and it worked for 1 day then would only show 4 monolog chenels. The International warranty didn't mean I could get it repaired in UK I have to take it back to Dubai.

I just purchased the 22" LG LU5000 a real nice piece of kit, excellent
The picture is crystal clear and is a nice piece of furniture with it being a white surround.Friends thought it looked really classy they also commented what a great picture and how their Tvs did not come up to that level.

We looked at Hitachi and Samsung for a TV for a dining room. Comet had Hitachi and LG, Currys had Samsung, all priced at £399.99. Having looked at the comparitive specs we bought the LG 32". Easy to set up, excellent picture quality, the LG is cracking good value for anyone not overly clinical or " anorak-ish " about performance.

“I bought my 32" LG LCD TV from Curry's 18 months ago...”

I bought my 32" LG LCD TV from Curry's 18 months ago and now it will not switch on. I have sound but no picture and my repair man says it will cost over £200 to repair - if he can get the part! Unfortunately he can't get it. While it worked I had no complaints but surely it should last longer than 18 months.

Excellent product. Clear and excellent quality with PC connections. Works excellent with our surround sound and high definition cable. You can feel the heat form the Tv after a while though

Really bad for the screen to blow after only two years. I thought it would last longer.

Having bought my 37inch lg tv.14months ago the picture has a indescribable dark discolouration on the screen.this started to get worse over the last few months when I reported it to Comet in December they said the guarantee was up the day before my complaint . I think 1 year of a thousand pound television is a very poor buy. My last 32inch flat screen I had for eight years with no problem and is still in use daily. I certainly would not recommend this make to any one.

Product Expert's Response to 349049_Mrs H Sharp's Review

I work at Comet's customer information centre and although I am not an engineer, I am a customer service advisor and product expert. This problem sounds like a classic case of ' screen burn 'to me. Plasma's suffer from this but it is a little known fact that LCD's can also suffer from it (if an image is left on screen for too long or logo's or menu's are used repeatedly over time, even black bars present on movies top and bottom can show faintly just after a movie).

Of cause this is just an opinion, but if it was ' screen burn ' , it would unfortunately not be covered by warranty or extended warranty as it is an inherent quality of the technologies involved and is not something that would be there at the time of manufacturing but is more akin to accidental damage and/or misuse and is detailed in manuals supplied with TV's and warned about.

Careful ownership usually prevents its occurrence and I have a Panasonic Plasma that is fine with e.g. PS3 console, where gaming is often discouraged with plasma's, due to potential for screen burn. General advice is to keep the picture contrast and brightness, as low as possible especially during the first 200 hours of use and refrain from doing as stated above.

Regarding this issue where the customer was told Comet wouldn't do anything as it was ' a day out of warranty ' ... it probably shouldn't have been dismissed under that response solely, if indeed it was that abrupt sounding, because (after 6 months and out of warranty) if the customer (on seeking an engineer ' s report from us + other evidence) could prove to us that the fault was there at the time of manufacturing, then we could, under the 6 year sales of goods act, try to repair it etc. but as this looks like ' screen burn ' , we wouldn ' t have been able to do anything whether in warranty or out. It is unfortunate though that this TV failed to live up to the customers expectation of the lifespan of a TV but important to understand that no matter, which retailer they bought it from, the same advice as above would no doubt apply. LCD ' s and Plasma ' s can have a life expectancy of anything up to 60000 hours or around 25-30 years if used in optimal conditions. P.S I just saw this review and didn ' t have to write this. Just wanted to provide a different point of view as reviews can so easily sway potential purchasers minds (mine included).

written by zoodemon on 10/04/2006

I bought a 28" widescreen LG 28CZ10RX a couple of years ago. It was good value at the time, and I was really pleased with it. The speakers gave rather poor sound, but it was a cheap TV after all. Now, after just over two years use, a component has failed, and I have found out that the TV is actually made by Beko and badged as LG. I certainly wouldn't have bought it if I had known that. It has cost me over half the cost of the TV to repair it, and I just pray that nothing else goes wrong. I would suggest that for any TV you are thinking about buying, have a search around on the net for a user manual, or even search the TV repair forums for your make/model. It might save you money in the long run. I am gutted, and disappointed in LG!!
