I bought a laptop from PC World and at the time foolishly took out a one year insurance. Laptop seemed faulty from the moment I turned it on. Despite sending it back and sending several letters, I kept being told that my contract was with PC world support. I felt as though they totally ignored my rights. Turns out that the memory card was faulty, however despite their so called tests they did not pick up on this. Apparently a friend who knows about computers tested it and said it was evident right from the first test. I have changed the memory card and so far no problems but it has meant I did not have a working laptop for over 2 years and constantly had to erase my whole system to get it working again.
I will never buy from PC world again.

Some of the cheap prices they offer online are not guaranteed to be available in-store. I was looking for a tv card offered at £10 less if you book it online and then go in store they stated it was not in stock in store when I tried to book it. When I went into the shop it was available so went directly home and tried to book it with the same result apparently no stock? This has happened to me time and again with other products. I am truly sick of them and will never go in to a PC World again.

The reason why this happens is because the web system syncs with the stock file and requires there to be a certain level of said product available for you to book it. Ie: 10+ this is to take into account anyone else trying to book the product at a similar time (which does happen), or to take into account any errors on the store's stock file, which again unfortunately does happen due to theft, failed deliveries, etc. Better you cant order it, than you order it, go in, and they haven't got it. Generally speaking though, they would price match it, most of the time, unless it was a massive price discount.

I brought a £1000 H.P computer in October 2007 from PC World, I had trouble with the keyboard and mouse in December and was promised that a new one would be sent to me. After numerous calls I eventually got a new keyboard last week almost 6 months later.

I purchased some software, but had problems installing it onto my computer, I contacted the number for support, (the store number is not listed) and was given 7 options on the phone menu, after choosing several of the options along the way, I finished up holding a dead phone as I was not prepared to pay for software support on a product I had only owned for 4-5 hours. There is supposed to be a free software support on the web but all that gives are premium phone lines.

Quick delivery, good range of products, great service, reputation un deserved.

I disagree with this review because took almost 3 weeks to get the item and the laptop came broken and customer service couldn't help me!

Reputation undeserved???? You ordered items off the internet whoop e doo, try going in store for anything including repairs, check out how good they are then and how "fantastic" there customer service is then you will see why they have this reputation.

Bought a computer worth £550 which was meant to come with speakers, went back and despite showing them their website, they were very reluctant to provide speakers. They did eventually after about 15 minutes arguing.

I work for PCW, and half the time we aren't told what's supposed to come with the deals and what's not. This is not our fault it's head office's responsibility. However, arguing gets you nowhere. Keep calm and we will do the same. If the website showed the machine with speakers, you of course expect to get them. But read the small print before shouting off.

PC world are disgustingly bad after you have given them your money and they just done care about you after that. i would strongly advise people dont buy from them, ever. I kept getting out through to different departments who then sent me back to the same department i had rant before. No one knew how to help me. Their in store staff are full of you know what and said they had fixed my PC when they may as well have not touched it. They don't read emails properly as i put i refused to ring them again they sent me a number to ring.

I went in to my local PC world. Met at door by three staff. Wow, getting better I thought. Can we help? Yes, I want the best PC for gaming , a dvd surround sound system and a HD TV all to work together. Met with blank stares. You will find all that over there, one said. Give us a shout if you need any help. What did he think I had just asked him for. Pathetic!

I work for PC World and staff are told to keep in their area, for example cameras. I sell Apple Mac machines and if I am seen in networking for example I am taken by the manager back to my area. There has to be someone on the door for meet and greet to comply with mystery shop. We do our best to help you if you are in our area, but if not then it is up to the person who is meant to be there to deal with it - or we have to find the person if she or he isn't there.

They don't support their warranty, when you ask for after sales help they just try to flog you services that cannot be of any help, they don't read emails properly and generally don't know the meaning of "customer care"

I am not happy about buying products from PC World. I think some of there staff do not have a clue about computers, grumpy and the majority of them were ignorant.
Some staff were walking around scruffy and calling themselves managers.
I have dealt with them over the past few years and I am not happy with the service. Not at all helpful when you have a serious problem like selling computers that are returned faulty and sold again as new with all your personal info on them.

I use PC World regularly for the basic stuff, and have bought a number of computers from them over the years. Personally I'd never ask them for help or advice, but as a good value source of computers, and other bits you can't really go wrong as they're always happy to replace faulty parts and tend not to argue when they know that you are right.

I have purchased quite a few items in the past from PC World, although you can buy some items cheaper from other places and it is too busy on weekend, I keep going back because I find the staff are very helpful.

Overall, I think that PC World is by far the best computing shop available, and it is very easy to access. Even though some things are a bit pricey, I do prefer the staffs help and the knowledge they have.

Using PC World's online reserve facility, I reserved the Atlanta Desk from PC World at Fosse Park, since the store is opposite the Car Park and Argos is next door (needed to go there as well).
I found the Reserve and Collect Desk, waited about 2 minutes, then headed over to the office furniture area and picked my heavy desk kit up. I slid the desk across the floor, because at 29 kgs, it is a bit heavy for me to lift. The checkout assistant asked if I needed some help carrying it to the car. I said "yes", and she helped me lift the desk into the boot.
When I got home I read the instructions and assembled the desk with ease. The only points to complain about - Part G, the back panel of the draw is fitted too early in the assembly process. The point by point assembly instructions have a wrong number, which basically refers a half finished desk to go straight to the last section to fit the desk top, which is about 20 sections too early. Part G is fitted when the other back panel is added, rather than later when the base unit shelf and end panel are fitted.
Overall, I am pleased with the desk and the service from PC World. The only word of warning - if you are buying a PC or anything technical, go and do your research first, i.e. go to the store for that item.

It is a good shop that doesn't rip you off.

Despite checking with PC World that they could deliver in time for Christmas when I placed the order, and several times at weekly intervals beforehand, nothing had arrived by Christmas Eve. I was then told that I could cancel and collect the items from my nearest local store. I duly turned up, and all I got was blank looks. They not only had no stock, but they were totally unhelpful, and it was only after my insistence that they speak with their Customer Service department that they very grudgingly offered an alternative product at the same price.
I will never buy online from PC World again.

I had used PC World's collect at store service twice. Both times I had experienced very poor service when I went to collect at the store. Ignore Delivery time rated above as it does not apply.
Below is an email I sent to their customer service.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to express my extreme disappointment with my experiences of the [email protected] service at the Stockport branch of PC World. Today was my second time using the service, and it had not improved in any way over the first time.
The first time I used the service was a few months ago when I bought a Philips DVD writer. I placed my order online and went down to the store to collect it a few hours later. When I arrived, not only do I not find my order waiting for me, but the sales person had no idea what I had ordered. I waited for 20 minutes before she returned with THREE different items, none of which was what I had ordered. I had to wait for a further 20 minutes for her to 'find' the correct item.
The second time was today. I placed an order for a Panasonic FZ7. As per the instructions, I went to the store a hour later. To my disappointment, the item was again not ready for me. Not only that, but the computer system in store was not working! It is shocking to say the least to find the computer system of an IT store not working. Therefore my order cannot be traced. And on top of that, the sales person at the counter had no idea what item I had ordered as she could not tell from the printed order form. A salesman had to be sent to the store to 'search' for it, and I waited for OVER 15 minutes for him to return. When he did not return, I went back to the counter and was informed that he 'could not find it'. I was also told that the system indicated that there were 2 in stock. So while I waited some more, I had a wonder around the store and could clearly see THREE behind the counter at the cameras section; 1 on display, 2 in stock. However, the salesman sent on the search was nowhere to be seen. In fact, NO salesperson around the camera section could be seen at all!
He only returned 15 minutes later to retrieve it from behind the counter. And when I tried to pay at the [email protected] counter, I was told to pay at the regular sales cashier. At the checkout, the salesman just went from one counter to another (i.e A to B and back to A again), wasting more of my time. I wasted a total of OVER 30 minutes to pick up an order that should have been ready for me.
I was disappointed once by the service, and I thought that things would have improved a few months later. It appears that I was wrong. What is the point of ordering something, and as per the instruction, allow an hour for it to be readied, then having to wait OVER HALF AN HOUR in store for the staff to 'get it'? It turns out to be just a waste of time. On top of that, the computers in 'UK's Largest Computer Store' were not working AND the staff had no idea about the product, TWICE. Worst of all, there were 3 in stock, AND IN CLEAR VIEW, and yet it could not be spotted by the staff!
Due to these two experiences, I had to reconsider shopping at PC World again. There clearly was no commitment to customer services or staff training at all.

Completed application several times since 21/04/06 but postcode declared invalid. Telephoned PC World and was told to try again as there was a possibility that the website could be down. Sent e-mail but no response. Telephoned again 24/04/06 staff less than helpful.

I ordered a digital camera (£500) from PC World. It took about one month to get my camera.
I had called them many times but just wasted my money talking to a machine because I've never been able to talk to a customer support member.
It was worst at DHL (next day delivery), I called them about 10 times to arrange a day and time to get my parcel, another waste of time and money. They never came at the arranged time and I think they had never ever been to my home.
After about 1 month I decided to pick up my camera at DHL branch at Park Royal. When I got there and asked for my parcel the person could not find my parcel and asked me to come back another day (great service for DHL), but after I argued for about 50 minutes he finally found my camera.
Now I tried again this time a printer and the same problem. But this time I could not get my printer from the DHL branch it was returned to PC World.
Never buy online from PC World unless you realise that you have to drive to DHL branch and hope they can find your parcel there.

Right, I work for PC World and I am sick of hearing people complain about this topic. Let me explain Collect at store.
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>You can reserve a product online maybe at a cheaper price than instore, but there needs to be more than 3 in stock for you to be able to do this. If you go to the store and see three on the shelf, take it to the till (it would help if you have a print screen of the webpage) and the csa will be happy to amend the price for you.
<br/>
<br/>
<br/>I wish people would ask before complaining.
