“Prepaid booking not honoured”

Travelled abroad with family and booked a large car they described as dodge caravan or similar, capacity 7 Passenger + 5 Luggage. on arrival they gave me a 5 seat car that pops up 2 seats in the luggage compartment, leaving you with no luggage space if you utilize 7 seats. This was in no way similar to that booked and staff were not interested to help, in fact the manager Wighed in insisting this is similar to that booked if you want a upgrade you will need to pay, when I made clear that I shall never use dollar again the counter staff replied I don’t care, I left the car behind and took 2 taxis to destination. Took them a month to agree to refund the £710 paid, with no apology, one to avoid !!

“Received a partial credit for cancellation and re-booked”

I made a reservation through Southwest for Dollar Car Rental for $136.35 and had to cancel due to length of stay was extended. Received a partial credit on this reservation of $80.35 and was charged $56 for cancelling. On same day made another reservation through Dollar Car Rental direct for $183 charged to my card on 9/29. Informed the agent what transpired and ensure I would be fully refunded before making new reservation. To my surprise I was lied too. When I call to dispute I was informed cancellation fee even through another reservation was made less than 15 minutes from booked one. What a rip off and I will not be using Dollar car Rental through Southwest ever again.

“Hired 2 cars within 2 weeks from Dollar - AWFUL!”

We found their customer service to be terrible when collecting and dropping off both cars in different States on a recent holiday to the US. They are under staffed and their processes cannot cater for the number of customers. Considering that most people pre-arrange car hire, you would think they would be forewarned on how many staff to put on to man their stations. Insurance was added onto our bill without our consent - besides prepaying the collision damage waiver, we have comprehensive travel insurance that covers any excess. At Phoenix, Arizona airport, we were misled having to pre-pay a tank of petrol at a spiked fee, being told this was mandatory in that state, despite not having paid this in California. We were told different States have different policies - on checking with a manager, this was not true! From the grumbles around us - we were not the only dissatisfied customers! Positive: Both times, the cars had low mileage, were well maintained and in good order.

“Don't do it!”

Similar experience to other reviewers. We waited four hours for the car to be available and discovered afterwards unauthorised charges had been made against our card. We disputed the charges and obtained a refund but in future will pay a bit more to hire with a reputable company and save ourselves a lot of hassle and worry.

“I recently rented a car from Dollar (through Orbitz)...”

I recently rented a car from Dollar (through Orbitz) in Prague airport. Before leaving i had a look around the car for any damages etc.. and there were none that i can see. However when returning i was up for a surprise, the attendant searched my car up and down and found that under the front bumper there was a small scratch (approx. 1") (which i was charged for approx. 10,000 czk (406.00 usd)! So apparently i was expected to go down and lay on the ground to inspect every inch of the car (even those parts that are not visible to the naked eye) before taking it out. Its completely unjust to charge me for a scratch which is unknown who's fault it is, being that there was practically no possible way of seeing and reporting it beforehand.  Additionally, the charge was made without even notifying me about it (i didn't get any email or call about this whole situation (although when going to the rental desk to complain i was told that i would be contacted), I feel like they are working behind my back). Additionally, when told by the inspector to sign about this scratch i was pretty much forced into it, he wouldn't sign the contract off unless i signed (although it didn't make any sense). Now to top it all off, I sent an email complaining to Dollar on Aug. 14 (11 days ago) and still no response! Not even a confirmation of receipt.

“Unauthorised charge to credit card by Dollar ”

We rented a vehicle from Dollar whilst holidaying in California in Summer 2015. Despite fully refuelling the vehicle at the petrol station next to the airport and the Dollar representative confirming the vehicle was fully fuelled when we returned the vehicle we found that a refuelling charge had been charged to our credit card on our return to the UK. We have contacted Dollar customer services and requested a credit but we have been ignored. DISGRACEFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT USE DOLLAR CAR RENTAL.

“Only interested in the $ Dollar!”

Pre booked Car Hire with Dollar for the second leg of our trip which involved picking up a car at Miami airport for 1 week. Completed all forms online as requested plus additional forms sent after the original booking by email "to speed up check in." When we got to the Car Rental Centre there was a very long line waiting to "check in" - 1 hour 15 minutes later ( I kid you not! ) got to the desk to be told by an extremely pleasant member of staff that they were very busy ... got that .... and it would be another "hour at least" before our car was ready. Even though our flight had been delayed by 2 hours + the hour in the queue, the car still wasn't ready. Very disappointed. We eventually got the car 45 minutes later by asking every 10 minutes was our car ready. The car return was uneventful and completed by another very pleasant member of staff. Next time I will stick with Alamo

“a cabriolet, but still a pile of rubbish.....”

I know you really only get what you pay for but alarm bells should have been ringing for me when I was offered a convertible for 4 days stay in Cyprus for 146 Uk Pounds. I was expecting a Renault Megane convertible or something like it,and was delighted when I saw that my car was going to be a Mercedes CLK. This is where the good news ends.The car had 90000 kilometres on it and was starting to show its age to say the least. The car had the following things wrong with it: Really bad transmission shudder and shake at low speeds. I should point out at this time the car is an automatic. Vibration from the road wheels, as it would seem that Dollar (or Michaels car hire, whichever they choose to be known by) have never heard of wheel balancing, and if they have they chose not to get it done on this car!!!!. Squeak from the windows if you even dare to try and drive it with the roof and the windows up, which I chose to because when I picked the car up it was night time and too cold for the roof down. This was a very high pitched squeaking from the windows rubbing against the door/window rain seals, and was REALLY LOUD. Parking sensors...... Yes I know a good driver does not need parking sensors, BUT in an unfamiliar vehicle in a really tight garage parking space in the dead of night, it would have been nice if they worked, but surprise surprise they didn't.. By the way I did read the manual, and confirmed how they should work but to no avail. I decided to call them, and the number that was on the back of the keys was unobtainable (more like they switched it off) so I managed to find a number for their head office in Nicosia, and was promised a call back very soon, which did not happen. I did after about 6 Hours get a return call,but the caller hung up as soon as I picked the phone up, and of course the number was restricted so I had no number to call back on. I wasted an entire day that I could have usefully spent doing something else, IF ONLY they cared enough to get the problem addressed. I'm now on my 2nd to last day here in Cyprus and will give them a call and see what they intend to do, but I bet its a big fat ZERO. Will keep this post updated with results when I have spoken to them.

Well, as promised I gave them a ring. Spoke to someone who informed me that, in his best English, which was very poor that " We closed, call back Monday". I explained that I am going back to the UK on Sunday, he said "We closed call Monday" and then put the phone down. What a rude and arrogant c11nt

. Dollar /Thrifty/Michaels car rental haven't done it for me, and I hope by reading the review above and my comments you will avoid them like the plague and not give any of your hard earned money to them.

“Worst Customer Service ever experienced”

We rented a car for collection at Sanford Airport on 26th April.On arrival we spoke to customer service agent who gave us the car we had booked for 4 persons and 2 cases which stated it was an Aveo or equivalent, He told us that regardless what the booking said, they had assigned us a smaller car equivalent to a Fiat 500 or Chevrolet spark ( sort of looks like a smart car) we knew the Fiat would be far too small so was given the Spark, it was SO small we could not even get One of our small cases in the boot. It was only really suitable for hand luggage in the boot. We went back to the assistant who just laughed and said you will have to book another car, we asked for the Aveo that we had booked and he said No!. I explained that our booking was clearly for 4 people and 2 cases and therefore the car was not fit for the purpose we needed it, he just smirked and said you will have to upgrade and pay more money then! We tried to fit the cases in the but was impossible, so were all stranded in the airport without a car to get everything in. I tried to put the cases on the back seat but I know it can be dangerous if involved in a collision would mean they were on clear view and vulnerable to be identified as tourists and robbed. I called customer helpline which was closed and asked for a manager but the Agent just laughed and said no one available. The Agents attitude from start to finish was dismissive and uninterested in the issue stating that we should book another car! Maybe he wasn't getting enough commission on the one we had booked?! He was treating our predicament as one big joke, we had to pay for another car $270, on top of the $480 we had paid already for two weeks hire just to get out of the airport. When we got to this car it was full of dents and scratches, it just about started and the sat navigation was not working. I asked for assistance and was told someone would come out to see me, after 30mins no one came so I had to go back inside and ask again! Eventually they told us the car was faulty and we needed to get another. The next car we was given was dirty full of cigarette burns and also had dents and scratches all over, but by this time we just wanted to get on with our holiday. We just left the compound only to hear the fuel gauge alarm so we had to drive out of the airport and back in as there was no fuel in the vehicle, we were told they would arrange for it to be filled. We asked could we not just take a different car as this one was a mess, but he said if we change the car more than twice he would have to report to head office and they said it would only take 2 mins. They took the car away and we waited another 30mins! We asked the Agent for documentation to get out of the compound but he said he would phone security, we got to security who said he could not let us leave the compound without documentation and no one had phoned him, after another delay and confrontation he eventually found the original ticket and let us leave the compound, this was now 4.30pm a full two hours after reaching the rental office! This was also after a 10 hour flight and was a disgraceful start to our holiday. I think the customer service was appalling and the attitude of the assistant was disgusting, we felt trapped and robbed at the airport, as we had no alternative but to pay him money to leave the airport. For $700 we paid for a clapped out damaged vehicle we could have booked top of the range rental car with the likes of Almo or any other none dollar associated company. We have hired with Dollar in the past and not had too many problems but have used ALMO who have given us much better quality vehicles and better customer service, this experience will mean my friends and family will avoid doing business with Dollar in future. It feels like Dollar is running down their vehicle stocks and business isn’t good so their customers are suffering as a consequence. I sent a message to Dollar Customer Service through their website explaining the issues, their poor customer service and my desire to change the car for what we had booked. Several days later and I have not received any response. I then received a response saying nothing they can do, I will never rent another car from Dollar. Dollar has positively the worst customer service of any rental agency I have ever dealt with.

“Good Experience!”

Booked thru Atlas choice for a mid-size SUV with an all inclusive price which kept the rate at the advertised price with no extra fees. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Four of us picked the car with the most space in the back and it only had 170 miles on it. We were also happy with the service as the shuttles were out front and we didn't have to wait both coming and going from the rental car agency at the Las Vegas Airport. We would definitely use Dollar again.

“Contract renew after 30 days”

Annoying after 30 days rental I was forced to redo the contract at a corporate office but most location are not corporate but rather franchise offices who do not have the authority to extend the contract. Dollar threatened me several times a day with police action even though they had all the information on me including the CC #. Dollar expected me to drive 350 miles to the next corporate office. this is ridicules and certainly not customer friendly. The customer service was annoying and pestered me relentlessly. I will certainly not ever rent from Dollar again.

“charged for a damage from previous driver”

i rented a car recently at Dollar Rental near LAX for an overnight stay nearby. upon return without any incident, they found an old rusted superficial damage on theright side of the car body. $870 was assessed. with a vigorous protest including photos i took of the rusted damage, they backed down to $200 for yet another damage to the right front bumper which most likely occurred at the time of the old rusty damage on the same side. besides, the bumper damage was not even pointed out at the time of initial inspection. they are mentioning referal to a collection agency if the amount is not paid as assessed by them. i would not use any services by dollar, thrifty or any other rental services owned and managed by Hertz.

“No complaints”

Registered online for Express service at Orlando International Airport. Walked straight to garage. Only one client ahead of me at kiosk. Showed booking form to agent. Checked driving licence and directed to row of cars nearby. Selected one from mid size row, drove to exit. Agent checked id and raised barrier. Ten minutes in and out. Returned car 12 days later. Checked by agent and provided with receipt. In and out again in ten minutes. Credit card transaction three days later. $321.35. No hard sell, no additional charges, friendly and courteous service. Will use again. (Express system excellent, no standing in line at desk in terminal).

“Avoid avoid avoid ”

They are based 8 km out side the shiphol airport in the middle of nowhere it will take you a good hour untill you ll find the shuttle bus on the return my experience my gps tom tom couldnt spot the office and after30 mindriving i decided to drop off the car to the short term arrivals and call them to collect it from the airport they told me that this service will cost me at least 300 euros so i had to cancel my flight to return the car Also they have a term where it is 1000 euro per damage if they find any like front and rear dent equals 2000 euro

“Dishonest”

It should be zero stars. There seems to be a culture in this company of purposely overcharging customers. The only thing that gets any response from them is to get your credit card company to reverse the charge. You hear from them very quickly then. I would suggest that no one ever use this company, even if they are cheaper.

“STAY AWAY, AVOID AT ANY RATE”

Had reserved with Expedia. They did not honour the reservation and cancelled it. They charged us much higher rate and forced us to buy CDW and SDW although we had our credit card cover for this. They charged us for border crossing to Austria. We ended up paying more than double the Expedia rate and it is not over yet. Avoid at any rate, they show lowest rate but watch out when you arrive at the airport.

“Abysmal. Wrong Car. Charged Extra for Breakdown Cover”

Booked a Mustang Convertible or Similar for a week from Sanford Airport, Florida. After a long wait, we ended up with a Chevrolet Malibu, which appears to be a Full Size 4 door saloon. No choice as there were no other cars on the lot, and we just wanted out of the place. Was told that we could exchange at another branch. We were also charged for Breakdown cover and Plate Plus, but heading down to Keys, so Plate Plus probably a good thing. Apparently, we were the third customer that the agent had had that day for Mustang Convertible or similar that they were not able to provide. Well, tried to change car the next day at Cape Caneveral. They had 2 Mustang's in the lot. Were told that "cars are reserved in advanced for customers". Clearly this isn't true or we would have had the car we reserved. Later that day, went to Orlando International Airport to return car. Said we wanted a change of car. Apparently, it was OK. Said we had booked a 2 seater convertible. Got agent to count doors. Luckily, we managed to change the car to a 2 seater Mustang. But, it added maybe an extra 90 minutes to the day faffing about. No apology from Dollar. I wonder if I should have removed two of the doors from the first car to ensure it met the terms of the original contract if it wasn't sorted.

Do not use this company unless you want bad service, bad cars unauthorised extra charges and frankly a system of bad service I have never before encountered. Warn your friends family and all world leaders both political and religious. This is not a joke. Trust me. One star rating is frankly far to generous.
