Sorry about the DS thing, and yeah the movies for the PSP stink and the DS is alright but I don't like that stylus or the duel screen but the games for it rule! Hopefully Sony will come out with a PSP2 thats is not so breakable and has a lot less of the prblems it has now and with better games.

maybe if you didn't have any of that stuff before but most people already have a DVD player [with all of their DVDs which you can't watch on your PSP so that's more $ to spend on something you already have] and a video game system. I agree that it is a good mp3 player but as far as the games and movies goes you're just re buying what you already have on DVD and games [PS2]. Um... ok? So I will go play my DS and have fun now... too bad I don't actually have one.

It might be $250 but if you were to buy an MP3 player, a DVD player and a video game system it would be cheaper to buy a PSP. So go play your dumb DS and have fun.

written by Boobie Farts on 09/04/2005

My Aunt got me the Sony PSP and when I first took it out of the box, I was amazed. It was very thin and portable. Before I even turned it on, I was very paranoid and held it with both my hands like three inches over my bed. It looked really delicate and easily scratched. After a while I realised that it was not as delicate as it seems. And when I first turned it on, the graphics were so amazing, that I just stared into it with my mouth opened. It is very good with headphones, and I suggest you get a bigger memory chip, like a 256 megabyte from sandisk or something for it, but not a new battery because its still very expensive. I highly recommend this product for kids thirteen and up.

★★☆☆☆

written by Cordasum on 06/04/2005

The Sony PSP has very good graphics and memory. It will hold a whole lot of pictures and songs. The games are awsome and the screen display is very nice. It is like you have your on little portable TV. The PSP needs a more powerful battery. It gives you two hours of game play then shoots out the disc before you are even able to save your game. The square button does not work. I have tested many PSP's and all of the effects that I have said applies to all of them. Other than that the Sony PSP is pretty good. Just a little fixing up and it would be awesome.

I do agree that the DS is more innovative but in all fairness nintendo got where it is today because of the great games they had for each of their systems. I just don't see any must have games for the system. granted the psp is lacking but with Sony's third party support that probably won't be a problem. I just hope their can be enough room for two handhelds and eventually three when nintendo releases its next gameboy.

The American PSP still has a lot of those same problems. It is better, and the system is awesome, but it does have a lot of problems. The DS, on the other hand, has very few problems. I have seen SOME problems with the GBA games having poor sound quality on the DS, but that is it. The DS is better. And way more innovative.

Why did u give it a 4 out of 10? Was this based on the poor value for money? As far as i can see, it's great value... I got mine for £240 with a game from lik-sang including import duty. Not a small amount of money I know, but I also have a DS, and it's getting punted to buy new PSP games! There is just no comparison at all between the two consoles. Anyway I digress, value for money asides, the PSP is well worth 9 or 10 i'd say.

written by blacKnight05 on 06/04/2005

The Sony PSP has exceeded my expectations in terms of the first handheld from Sony. I was skeptical about the integration of an analog stick into a handheld, but Sony did a very good job of it. The sheer size of the screen is overwhelming. The PSP is also very easy to hold, something the DS was lacking in my opinion. I almost didn't buy a PSP for one reason: price. I finally justified slamming down $250 for this system, but I just barely have that kind of cash to spare. From what I've played, the games are very well done. The graphics are almost up to par with the Playstaion 2. This is an amazing system that has shown that Sony can do more than just consoles.

I love the Sony PSP, and I also love the fact the screen protection does not have to be provided by Sony. I found a cheap way to protect the PSP screen, I went out and purchased some laminating coveringing, Wall Mart sells it for like a $1.87. I cut out the size I need and placed it over the screen, it sticks fine I can see through with no problem, and when I peel it off it doesn't leave a residue.

What a great cheep fix.

When I first heard that Sony was coming out with a handheld (Sony PSP), I fell on the floor laughing. I figured they'd screw it up, like they do with most of their systems. I was wrong. It isn't the best system ever, but it is pretty cool. It has a analog stick, which is new for a handheld. And the graphics are even better than the DS by a little. There are a few things I don't like about the system, however. There aren't enough good games out there. I don't like playing sport games, so the library isn't too big for me. Dynasty Warriors and Wipeout are probably the only two games I like for it. I know there will be more in the future, but right now I need more!

Hi, i agree with most of your points, but what do you mean by a lack of games? There are tons of games out at the moment, the largest launch lineup i have seen. Some games I recommend (not sports games) for the PSP include:
-Lumines (puzzle)
-Ridge Racers (racing)
-NFSU:Rivals (racing)
-Twisted Metal
-Spiderman 2 (adventure)
-Ape Escape
-Metal Gear Acid
-Darkstalkers Chronicle
-Untold Legends
All the above are availible from the USA PSP launch, which if you ask me is a very good lineup, considering I have missed out all the sports games, including World Tour Soccer and THUG2.

Upcoming games which look good include:
-Coded Arms (FPS)
-Mercury
-GTA working title
-Gran Turismo 4 Mobile

Yes, I agree with your points. I myself am not a sports games fan and I agree that there are far too many sports games for the PSP.

I said there weren't enough games for it, and too many sports games. I played the Spider-Man game, the Ape Escape game, Lumines, and Untold Legends (which is ok) and they weren't my style. I am a HUGE Spider-Man fan, but the PSP S-M game is not very good. Anyway, I said that I didn't like the games, not that they were bad.

I imported the Sony PSP from Japan (value pack), great unit, fortunate to have no dead pixels as the online department store checks before shipping. This handheld console is fantastic, I've owned the lot, neo geo, Game Boy, gamegear, this is exceptional, not only can you view videos (MP4 playback) but you can also download pictures onto its Memory stick duo card-connect to your PC via mini usb cable and view whilst on the move. I believe this handheld has lots to offer in the near future - great potential.

written by Ashfighter on 06/03/2005

Well to start with, Sony have put all their heart and soul into this Sony PSP system, and as the graphics show, it paid off. All genres on this hand-held look fantastic, including a nice solitary golf game after a hard day at the office. If you ask, me I think the PSP was really designed for the older gamers, and if you are a rookie, I'd go with the DS. However, that being said, if you a hardcore gamer, itching for a good challenge, this is the console for you! The PSP also features wireless multi-play so no messy link-cable is needed. It has a rechargable battery and will be used in the future to link with the PS2/3. All in all it's an alright console in my books, but only if you are serious about gaming!

This guy has no idea, the PSP has a wide screen, can play movies in the same format, also has a removable memory card, and it also managed to fit in a analog stick! Hmmm DS has a touch screen, OK great try using it when fighting off a bunch of P.O'd off cops in Grand Theft Auto 3, oh thats right that game won't be avaible for the DS, well at least you can instant message, of course so can my cell phone.

“The PSP is Fantastic!! The graphics are amazingly good...”

★★★★★

written by ray k 47 on 05/02/2005

The PSP is Fantastic!! The graphics are amazingly good and can definitly match up to the graphics of a PS2. I purchased mine off ebay and its regional free so when games come out where I am I will be able to play them with now worries. You can put movies, music and pictures on your PSP with easy to follow instructions that can be found on the internet. The wireless multigaming function is great the only game I have at the moment is ridge racer but with that you can play with as many as 12 players at a time. No exagerations, this is a truely amazing console! The video quality is unbelieveably good and can be seen on the 4.3 inch, 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD easily. The looks of the console are no let down the sleek all black design just looks breath taking. If you think it looks good on the pictures just wait until you have one of these babys inyour hands, ORGASM!

The bad points are very minor and me being a picky kida guy, just had to mention them. The first is easily solved, the value pack comes with a low memory card of 32mb. This is only enough to save your games on, so I suggest you purchase at least a 512mb memory stick pro duo (about £40 on ebay) or a 1gb memory stick pro duo (about £80) which will hold about 3 movies with sufficient space for songs. Another thing which some people consider as a "weakness" is the battery life, you get about 6 hours gaming which to me is very good as the graphics for this machine are unbelievable until you see for yourself. This can easily be sloved with a second battery (£25) which you can charge up and then put it when the first runs out. This is only if you are traveling with the PSP, if you are at home and playing it can be fully recharged within about 2 hours.

★★★★★

written by Jonno on 08/01/2005

I bought the Sony PSP - Playstation Portable when I was in Hong Kong and haven't been able to put it down since. In the value pack box, you get the PSP, headphones, remote control, memory stick, manual, case, wrist strap and charger. I can say that the battery lasts around 7hrs on a full charge, if you are playing games, but of course the battery discharges faster if you are playing videos. I have also downloaded a few mp3s onto the memory stick and have played them with no problem. I have yet to try a converted DVD, but will in the near future. The games are superb and Ridge Racers has brilliant graphics. Not to mention the fantastic screen, which is clear and large. However, there are some defects with my model. The "L" button sometimes gets stuck if I push it hard and also, there is one dust bubble under the screen, although I really had to look for that. All in all, a great piece of machine for a very reasonable price, considering the features. The PSP has a lot of potential, but it depends if anyone will experiment with it. Compared with the DS, the sales war will be close, but I think that the PSP might just edge it with its functionality and design.

Hi there paven, the PSP you should receive is a Japanese version. All the games bought in UK are compatible as they are region free. As for the movies, I believe that both countries are of region 2, so the movies should work. And for the MP3s you download onto your memory stick, they will definitely work!

Hi jamster1432, thanks for taking the time to read my review!!
The Sony PSP that I bought when I was in Hong Kong had actually been imported in from Japan. I have had no problems with playing games so far. According to reports, the PSP is region free with games, meaning that you will be able to play games from anywhere in the world.

However, if you want to purchase movies to watch on your PSP, they are region locked. But, Japan and UK have the same region, which means you can play movies from Japan and UK on a Japanese PSP.
Hope this helps, enjoy your trip to Japan and your PSP :)
