ONE OF THE WORST 'bikes' ive EVER owned. its a heap of junk, the electrics are prone to going wrong the carb gets clogged way too easily and its an all round Piece of Crud. DO NOT BUY. its also liquid cooled which is even worse the battery dies too easily and the kick start is prone to slipping. Poop bike From an other wise good Make Suzuki - Stick to your GSXRs.

“Best scooter on market! ”

★★★★★

written by Brad1996 on 13/08/2012

I brought my suzuki ay50 for £340 and it's never let me down once ( apart from faulty spark plug costs £3 to fix ) it looks great and is very fun to ride. My mates have scooters and not one is nearly as fast off the mark, it can beat cars off the line at traffic light etc. the only problem I have ever had is when it's cold it would take a while on the starter motor to start ( 30+ seconds ) but I found out the auto choke was not connected proberly and now starts fine every time. I highly recommend this scooter to any one!

“great bike easy to use and very reliable ”

★★★★☆

written by on 07/06/2012

i got this bike for E250 , when i got it it needed a new battery and indicators, also the body was damaged bad enough. but once i fixed up those things and i gave i a new custom paint job ,it was ruining nicely. it does about 65km/h max speed on a straight road with barley any wind. but here is a good tip. you sould all ways store your motor bike / scooter inside a shed or if you dont have one use a rain cover because if you dont you will have to change the seals on the gasket every few mounts depending on how much rain falls. it might not affect your bike but as im living up high there's lots of rain and plenty wind. good bike but if your buying privet be prepared that it will give you some problems to start.

“worst investment ever!!!!”

written by on 20/05/2012

this is one of the poorest bikes ive owned it is the katana r with blue and white special colour, if you see one without a belly poan its most likley been theft as you can start these with a simple spark, the chrome tecnigas exhast is terrible with this engine, it cause my pistons to break my bike was fine to 9000mile i bought it for 600 pound and its terriblle, the holes by the feet leak water its on a 2005 plate so not to old but yoiu would think its from the 80's the styling is dihar. the storage is pathetic, its the worst bike around which is why you never see thwem on the road, dont purchase one there horrible

“worst investment ive ever made!!!!!”

written by rashanakmid on 18/05/2012

i bought this bike for £600 it has 9000miles on the clock, it must be the worst bike ive purchased for a 50cc its slow it used to run at 50mph for around 2 weeks after putting my chrome technigas exhuast now it barley does 35mph it has ruined my engine it was perfect till 9000miles where the PLASTIC CARB started leaking petrol, tyhe bottom pannel is missing and i was recently told if this missing it may be stolen and recoverd they say its easily hot wired where this pannel should be. it so slow and they break to easy, it unreliable which is why none are ever seen on the road mine is the limited condition katona r, i hate it the exhuast has resulting into blowing my pistons, the engine is scrap. id advise no one to buy this bike its a let down its on a 2005 plate so you would think it would be okay, i was wrong it terrible, after moving from abroad i needed a bike i bpught this as its suzuki, i cant wait to sell it.

Sounds like the restricter is still on your bike! You need to see a Suzuki dealer to see if it's has been removed at the CID unit!

The katana has low gearing so will only get about 50 at max anyway, if your still getting 35 you need to upjet your carb 10% if you have a sports exhaust like a gianelli like mine, the only other restrictor is in the air box ive been told and you can buy and sports filter for around 15 quid which youll then need to upjet again to around a 96ish to match the air, also lighter rollers may make a difference in the acceleration speed

if it has a standard exhaust then that will have the restrictor in it as i have this bike and i have got a aftermarket straight through race pipe on it and it does around 45 - 50 mph i have been told to take the restrictor out of the air filter but as the bike is on high revs as it is and is screaming the knackers off of it and top end so i would just recommend getting a new exhaust..

“Really good bike”

★★★★★

written by bigandfat on 14/07/2011

I brought my suzuki ay50 cheap and it has a viper exhaust system on it and not too sure if its got any other modifictaions but it has good acceleration and good top speed (48mph on flat road) for a 50cc moped that is really good. i would recomend you buy one as they are cheap and good fun to ride :) the only bad thing is the plastics are hard to get hold of new but thats the same for all mopeds. people have put really bad reviews about them but they are a quality bike for starting on and for a 16 year old.

hi i bought a ay50 3 years ago i got it for £50 with cracked panels no barrel or piston and a handmade exhaust so i went to buy a 70cc barrel and piston and exhaust about a year down the line i got all of the panels eventually all off different bikes its had 10 previous owners i tested it just up and the road so i taxed and moted it it cost 200 hundred for a voltage regulator including labour the exhaust was 77 the barrel and piston was 110 and the panels cost about 100 all together it needed a vacume tap before mot aswell then the head gasket kept going 2 times so after that i put 2 on it went really well until a month down the line it went again so i bought another 50cc engine 5000 miles for 110 it goes better with that in and as fast not had a problem yet and its been in the bike for three weeks now thanks for reading

★★★★★

written by on 28/09/2009

I do not care what anyone says the Suzuki AY50 Katana is a good scooter, all my friends and I have recently got peds, mine is 5 years old and theirs are all practically brand new Peugeot and paddocks, mines faster, arguably better looking and much more reliable, all my friends wish they had my Suzy, bar the 2 exhaust replacements, no trouble. But this is a very good ped!
