“Car written off at last minute - AE backup plan a disaster”

Ordered a 9-person van only ot be told the evening before that it had been in a crash and there were no other vans in Austria (really, right next door to Germany?). WE agreed to take two vehicles instead but, as there would be two lots of tolls, two lots of petrol, AE agreed to cover all snow chain costs. “don't be seduced by the "best rate guarantee" ”

I've always had good experience with Auto Europe over the past 10 years. But here's a thing: Their website offers a "best rate guarantee." Well, I booked a rental at Preveza in Greece with Auto Europe, and then found a much better rate elsewhere. It was a 35-day rental, total price with AE: £712, plus an additional £100 (approx) for one additional driver (total £812). We are sorry to learn that we could not in this case beat or match the rate. It is correct that we do take into account the quality of the supplier. The car hire companies we use have new vehicles on fleet, this is of course so you are guaranteed the best experience and do not have to worry if the vehicle may break down or have lots of pre-existing damage.
It is important to Auto Europe that we do use suppliers that will provide the best service possible and this does include the condition of the vehicle.

“Extra costs”

“Disappointed with cleanliness of vehicle”

Recently hired an economy class vehicle from Brive airport (HERTZ). The car had not been cleaned, the inside of the windows were extremely dirty causing poor vision, the outside was covered in dried mud and the inside smelt strongly of stale cigarette smoke. “Dont use Hertz in Pisa”

In fairness Auto Europe are the car hire brokers which are usually very good and in this case not their fault. The Hertz car hire desk had 2 staff and this was at 11 30 at night. The other car hire desks including Europcar (who we normally use) were all empty of customers.6 customers were in front of me and it was almost 1 am before I was served. “Hertz Car Hire Experience”

In short the exterior of the car was not very clean. The message left in the car detailed that if the interior of the car was not cleaned before return then a charge of 60 euros would be levied. On picking up the car , which i had booked and given card details on line, i was advised that there was an extra charge (local tax) of 6 euros per day. Why is this not included in the quote online? Booked through Auto Europe, collected the car from Hertz at Perpignan airport, dropped the car off at Nice airport 2 weeks later. The car(Hyundai ix35) was fine and easily large enough for 4 adults and our luggage. The car clearly wasn't full when we collected it as this model has a fuel gauge shown in 1/6ths and although all 6 levels were showing when we left the airport, the display dropped to the next level almost immediately. The Bologna Hertz representative( through Auto Europe) on the 16th August was on her own at the check in desk. As a result we had to wait over an hour to be processed. “good but queues too long”

Happy with the price and the online confirmation etc. Unfortunately spoiled by the huge queue at the airport and the 35 minute wait before being served. Actually the queue wasn't that long, but with only 2 people on the counter initially, plus an average service time of around 15 minutes per person, the wait was ridiculous. “Watch out for the expensive extras”

I booked through Auto Europe and the hire was sub-let to Hertz - i should have had a concern then! At the pick up desk at La Rochelle the attendant didn't inspire confidence and certainly didn't have a command of the English language (I don't have a command of French either). Auto Europe are a broker so we deal with all of the major car hire suppliers; Hertz, Europcar, National, Avis as well as local suppliers.

Each supplier will have a different ruling on how their fuel policy works, and in most cases the price per litre will be slightly higher than what you can expect to pay at a regularly filling station.

We haven't hired many cars in Europe but I would look harder than Auto Europe next time. Part of the problem was the lack of clear signage at Graz airport (Austria) This was not the fault of Auto Europe bit it did waste time in trying to find the collection point, even with a German speaker! Regularly hire in Europe & don't understand difficulty experienced by the reviewer.
Graz is a very small airport with EASY to find, signposted car hire centre 20 yards from the end of the terminal building & incorporated in the multi story car park.

( I understand the unwillingness to provide credit card against excess claim, but without checking, I seem to recall that the small print covers it ).

Also, return (Hertz) was a doddle. Tank filled, car intact, keys & documents through the letter box as at mid-day on a Saturday things were v quiet & no sign of the staff .....

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad you were able to collect the vehicle with not too much disruption to your holiday.
As a broker we do deal with a number of car hire suppliers; each with their own ruling on which type of cards can be used for the excess amount.
In a bid to be as transparent as we can be we do show the T&C information online, viewable before you make you're booking and list all conditions on the car hire vouchers.
Please note we do also have a call centre that will answer any questions you may have regarding your rental.
I do hope that this does not deter you from choosing Auto Europe in the future.

“Car as promised but Hertz surcharges and surly staff”

The Verona Hertz staff were not that interested and less so when they saw our Auto Europe voucher. The 7-seat Ford S-Max was quite new, big enough for my 6-person family. Quite frankly I was relieved given some of these client reviews. We arrived at the Hertz pick up point first thing Saturday Morning, expecting our car to be ready - it wasn't. The insurances on the voucher are for an excess amount; so that they suppliers can not charge above this in event of damages or an accident. The information on this is detailed on our website before you choose the best rate and vehicle; it is also outlined on your car hire voucher.
The voucher will also display the car hire provider you are collecting your vehicle from; please note we do also have a 24 hour call assist line should you wish to confirm the details before you travel.

“Car Hire at Nice Airport from Hertz”

I hired a car from Hertz last year in Germany. It took them almost an hour to dish out a car and I swore I would never hire from them again. Hired through auto Europe, the price was competitive the service at the desk was good but the car,wow what a donkey. It was a diesel hyundai i35 with 60000 plus miles. Couldn't believe it.
