“Nice car but small boot”

We used auto-europe to book a car in Copenhagen airport. We booked a Mitsubishi Lancer (or equivalent). We got a Opel Mokka. It was a nice car in great condition! However, the boot was too small for a family of four. We squeezed in two suitcases and two hand luggages into the boot, but had to travel with two additional hand luggages in the care. “Don't buy petrol from them!!!”

Staff very friendly and changed the car when windows didn't work properly. Like all other car hire firms one has to be very careful as they will charge huge fees for everything, e.g. car seats, additional driver or insurance - we are used to that by now. However, this time we were sold a tank of petrol for 54 Euro which was supposed to be cheaper than at petrol stations. Hi There

Thank you for the review.

Each supplier has a different ruling on how fuel is charged, in this case the supplier states ' all vehicles are rented with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank'. This method has been preferred by clients as the cost of filling the tank outside of the airport location is always much better priced. If a supplier must fill up a tank once a vehicle has been returned they will charge the airport premium fuel rates. For further information on this policy you may contact us directly.

“Good prices, but customer service very lacking”

This was the second time I have hired a car through AutoEurope. Both times I was unable to make payment online using any of my debit or credit cards. The first time I called and spoke to someone in customer services who explained that my name was on a blacklist, except it wasn't me, it was someone who lives in the US. The second time when my card was declined again I rang customer services and and explained. The person I spoke to sounded as if they detested their job and could not be bothered… Read Full Review

We are looking at improving our Fraud Detection system, at present it does flag the name only and not the country of residence. We hope to have a better system in place soon.

“National not up to scratch”

Auto Europe sub contracting to National Car Hire perhaps needs reviewing. Auto Earope made it easy to book and provided good value for money, that's where the good things stopped. National provided a stroppy customer service agent on collection of our vehicle, she was short tempered - perhaps a bad day. Pleased enough with the hire process and the car from Hertz, an intermediate class Opel Astra estate BUT although supposedly for 5 people - and with 5 seat belts, there was no headrest in the middle of the back seat. I don't think this is acceptable and I wonder what the applicable regulations are in this case. “Car as described, cleanliness and collection location?”

We hired a Audi A3 convertible from Auto Europe. The cost was OK but, the collection location and cleanliness of the car where questionable. The location of the car was described at the time of booking as being from Bergamo Airport. The car was in fact from a compond a coach trip from the airport. “Car not quite as described”

The service we received at Durban airport was fine. The problem was the car. We were a group of six - four adults and two children. We ordered a car that was described as 5+2 on the website and the vehicle shown (I know you can't assume you are going to get the same) would have been fine. “Ridiculous Drop Charge”

This is not a comment on Auto Europe as they act as agents for other Major Car Rental firms. I rented a vehicle for 16 days via Auto Europe, the actual rental company I obtained the vehicle from was National. The start point was Halifax, Canada and the end point was Toronto, Canada. “Information missing”

Easy to book but doing it through a third party means you don't have access to the actual hire firm, in this case Hertz. I was aware of the increased need in France to have safety wear in the car and was ready to buy it in the UK if necessary. I contacted Auto Europe to ask if it was already provided by Hertz and was told it was. When we collected the car, the safety wear was insufficient. So the info I was given was erroneous. Thank you for your review. We do expect that all of our suppliers in France provide the correct safety wear, please accept our sincere apologies that this did not happen. Our management team will be made aware of this so that they can prevent this happening in the future.

With regards to the excess amount; this is taken by all suppliers as security whilst you have their vehicle. The local depot will offer an 'insurance wavier' option that can only be paid locally; the wavier can reduce the excess to a lower amount and in most cases a zero amount.

I have just returned from a holiday in France where we had arranged to hire a car through Autoeurope with Hertz. I really feel that anyone hiring a car from Hertz in Dinan needs to be aware of where the office actually is. According to google it is in central Dinan. It is not, it is a 15 minute taxi drive from Dinan in a recovery garage! Often this is closed when they are out on a recovery. We had arranged to collect a car at approx 10.30. I don't have an issue with autoEurope as such but I would like to warn anyone hiring a car through them with Hertz from Dinan in France that the office is not as google maps says in the middle of Dinan. It is a 15 minute taxi ride out of Dinan in a recovery garage that is not always open! The car was old for a hire car having covered 44k kilometres. “Didn't seem to care”

Just completed ten day car hire at Bergen Norway where staff just didn't seem bothered. Car had not been prepared, was dirty inside and out, and had a knock in the front panel that was not catalogued. Agent apologised and said they would discount for this. Car only had 9000 on the clock yet i had the engine warning light on day two and had to buy oil for it. This was refunded at the airport upon return of the vehicle, but the afore mentioned discount never materialised… Read Full Review

Don't go with Avis or hertz if you don't want to que and wait for ever .... Also make sure you have credit card to fund deposit otherwise pay cash !!! I've never had any problems with auto Europe as a company -but be careful which rental company you choose - I have found that lesser known companies give better service , quicker and more likely to get the car you think you've rented… Read Full Review

“Unadvertised extras!”

The car was brilliant, a brand new Fiat convertible. Fun and economical though not what I'd booked. The staff were friendly and polite. However my big complaint is that you actually took the £1000 deposit from my British account so that my bank charged me the foreign currency transfer fee of £30. Why can't you just take the card number so you can take the cash in case of damage etc? The answer is obvious! I use Auto Europe all round the world and until last Saturday 7th March at Salzburg Airport, I have never had a problem. On presenting my voucher to Europcar, i was told after a few minutes that they could not give me a car. Furthermore they could not tell me why.
